Summary: Parents, A great series to motivate the reluctant boy reader
Review: As a parent of a 10 year old boy, I have tried in vain to interest him in recreational reading. Until we found out about this series, my boy would NEVER pick up a book to read for pleasure. The Seventh Tower series changed his reluctance to read. He now reads these books all of the time.

I gave this series to his close friend, a dyslexic boy, and he too was motived to read the entire series.

I believe that the reason this series is compelling to boys and reluctant readers is that there is lots of ACTION, and less description than most books. I also feel that there are not many books targeting the reluctant reader. For example, the Redwall series is far more difficult to read than this series. THESE ARE THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE EVER FOUND FOR THE 9 - 12 AGE GROUP BOY. Several of these books make a wonderful birthday gift, that parents will really appreciate.

Summary: Action-filled Adventure
Review: This book has lots of action, especially when Tal plays Beastmaker with Ethar. I recommend this for anybody who loves fantasy filled with adventure.

Summary: Not Good
Review: All I can say was this was not a very good book. There was not a lot action, but there was a few good parts in it. The plot was unclear and very confusing. It also gave me a headache, so unless you can get it for 85% off the price please don't bother. Buy the Jedi Apperntice books instead.(there on this website)

Summary: A Parent's Review
Review: After reading the much touted children's books, The Golden Compass and Artemis Fowl, I know now to look for other parent's reviews of fantasy children's books. This one is great! I found nothing objectionable in it, and I rather enjoyed it. The only thing that kept me from giving it a 5-Star rating is the end, which is a kind of cliff-hanger. You definately need to have the sequels on hand for it! I do recommend this for 9-12 year boys AND girls, since both sexes are heroes in the book.

Summary: "Lots of fun...."
Review: "Lots of fun." That's what Tal's uncle says climbing the tower will be. Little does the lowly ranked great uncle know, Tal will not have much fun on this little adventure. Because of the recent disappearance of Tal's father, his family no longer has a Primary Sunstone, and they will need one very soon. So Tal decides to do everything possible to get one. He first enters the Achievment of Body to try to win a Sunstone, only to find out that he entered the Achievment of Music instead. Then he goes to see the Empress, and ends up playing a game of Beastmaker which will decide whether he will see her or not--but the game is ended when the Empress's Spiritshadow practically destroys it. Tal only has one hope: to climb the tower, go above the Veil, and steal a Sunstone. When he falls off and into a world outside of the Castle, a world which no one (or at least, no one he is aware of) has every seen. In this strange new world he encounters a strange tribe which lives on an ice ship and follows odd migrating beasts, an enormous Sunstone which he must fix, and giant creatures which attempt to kill him. Will he ever return to his safe, lighted Castle? I loved this book very much; it was very exciting. I can't wait to read the second one. They are little bit short though. It's a shame the author is only contracted to write 6 of them. :-( I recommend this for fans of Star Wars (books, movies, etc.).

Summary: The Fall
Review: It's diffenetly a good book, but I would appeal more to people who are about nine-eleven. A young hero must try to save his family after his father's mission fails. It sounds rather typical, but it's certainly got a few unusal twists in it.

Summary: A world of light and shadows
Review: This is the first title in a fantasy series which I want to read more of. The book started in an intresting way, which made you want to read more, as it begun in the middle of the story and then went back and described what happened before. The first half of this book was brilliant, I loved the world of the Seventh Tower, and the Sunstones and Achievments etc. A really imaginative new world was created. The only time this book began to drag was when Tal, the main character, fell from the Seventh Tower into an icy waste, where he meets Milla, who is hoping to become a Shield Maiden. This part was still good, but not as enjoyable or imaginative as the rest of the book. Still, I wasn't disappointed. This book is a great start to the Seventh Tower series.

Summary: Original and interesting.
Review: This is a great book. I thought the plot was extremly original and I liked the way Garth Nix created a world instead of using ours and just putting magic in it, using his own rules. In this world there are three types of people, the chosen of the castle who think they are supirior to all, who put up the veil (or at least they think they did, this is debated later in this book and the next ones) and who are very ignorant of many things despite what they think. The underfolk, who serve the Chosen, and the Icecarls who regard the spirit shadows of the Chosen as demons. Tal of the Chosen falls off the red tower and lands in the snow far from the castle. There he meets Milla of the Far raiders, a clan of icecarls. Milla is intent on trying to kill Tal until she is bound to him on her shield maiden quest. Milla and Tal set out together reluctantly. She proves to be a skilled warrior but will take any chance she can to prove that she is stronger or more knowlegeable about the ways of the ice. As the two thirteen year olds head towards the castle they meeet trouble and the book ends on a cliff hanger.

Summary: I read it in two days!
Review: I really liked the idea of spiritshadows and sunstones plus the great idea of orders of different colors. I give this book the violet ray of extreme approval!
