Rating: Summary: VERY GOOD!!!!!! Review: Well this is the first fantasy book I liked. After I read it I went out and bought the rest of the series. It's an extremly intresting story line. It's not like those really cheesey fantasy novels that have a bunch of Sowrdsmen and bow and arrow guys. It's completly uniqe.I highly sugest anyone should read it.
Rating: Summary: Good start to a great series Review: Don't let the fact that this is a children's book throw you off. This is an amazing book that I think people of all ages will enjoy. The Fall is about a young boy named Tal who needs to find a sunstone -- a source and sign of power in his world -- before he is thirteen. His mother is sick and his dad has gone missing so it's up to him to pretty much save the entire family. The catch is that he seems to have all sorts of enemies throughout the castle who are determined to stop him from accomplishing anything. This book is a great start to an adventure that will follow Tal through 7 more books. In fact, the only problem I have with the series is that I read each of the books too fast. They're childrens books so I can finish each in a couple of hours and then I wait impatiently until I can go back to the bookstore and get the next one. I think it would be best to keep the next one near you while you read so that you don't have to wait to find out what happens. It also took me a while to get into the first book but somewhere in the middle of the book I realized that I was really into the story. All in all, I reccomend the book (and the rest of the series) and even if you don't really like it at first, just give it a shot. You might be pleasantly suprised.
Rating: Summary: A Story in the Dark. Review: Tal, main charactor, lives in a world with the sun blocked by a veil. He is one of the chosen, a castle resident who does Sunstone magic. It starts the series out with his father going missing, his mother ill, and a big problem. Unknowing of a hidden plot he falls off a tower into the dark world outside and meets some strange people. It starts out at a moderate pace but eventually speeds up. It's a good book and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys an adventure.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as Sabriel but amazing in it's own way Review: Thirteen-year-old Tal is a chosen. This means that in place of his shadow he has a shadowguard, a shapshifting shadow that protects him from harm. In a few months he will have the chance to shed his shadowguard and bind himself to an adult shadowspirit. Unfortunately because of an unfortunate series of events Tal may not be able to receive a shadow spirit. You see he cannot go through the ceremony unless he has a primary sunstone and because his father has disappeared he has very few ways of receiving this sunstone. Even more serious is his mother's health. Tal's mother is very sick and the only thing that can help her is the light of a sunstone. Tal knows that if he doesn't find a primary sunstone, chances are she will die. This sends young Tal out on a dangerous journey through the castle he lives in. He knows that he only has so much time and must do anything he can to receive this primary sunstone. Unfortunately people seem to be working against his quest to receive a sunstone. It looks like his only hope is to steal a sunstone, and the only way he can do that is to climb up the castle and penetrate the mysterious vale where the sunstones are stored.Garth Nix is probably best known for his dark YA series (starting with Sabriel) that takes you into a mysterious world known as the old Kingdom where the Abhorsen is peoples only protection against dangerous necromancers. The Fall, the first book of the Seven Towers series looks to have some things in common with Sabriel and it's predecessors. It's filled with fascinating characters and dark and mysterious creatures. It has a strong female character and a new and original world. The Castle is a mysterious place where what you're class is means everything. Unfortunately, it's not quite as gripping and addicting as Sabriel, possibly because it's written in a much different style. The Seventh Tower series was made for a much younger audience so it doesn't posses the enthralling descriptions and complex characterization as Sabriel. Still the book is very good. It's fast paced, exciting, and interesting to read. Tal is a very amiable character. I can't wait to see what will happen to him and the other characters in the second book in the series, Castle.
Rating: Summary: One of the best book I've read! Review: I've read many books, and this is one of the best! At first I read this book because my teacher told me to, but I now want to buy all of them! If you like Harry Potter, this is the book for you!
Rating: Summary: A Boy Sent on a Journey that Will Save his Family Review: "In order to save his family, he had to get a new Sunstone. A powerful one, not the child's stone he wore at his throat. Tal drew a deep breath and slipped the stone back under his shirt. He had to climb farther. Past the Veil. Out into the full sunlight." The Seventh Tower The Fall by Garth Nix is an adventurous story about a boy and his struggle to get a new Sunstone for his family. Tal the main character is one of the Chosen in the Orange Order. He struggles to get a new primary Sunstone after his father disappears with his families Sunstone. He attempts in many different ways but, always seemed to fail but the last time he tries, he tries to steal a Sunstone he falls from the tower and falls and lands out the castle. He has never seen out of the castle on land, only the sky. He lands in snow and meets a girl named Milla. Tal is then taken to their ship where he is challenged to fix the ships Sunstone. He then is bonded to Milla with his blood as they are sent on a quest together. Milla must take Tal back and Tal must give Milla a new Sunstone. They start their journey and they run into a beast that destroys their cart (their only way of transportation). They then start walking but don't get far when they run into another beast. This time it wasn't as easy to get away. This time Milla gets hurt. As Tal is sitting by her side, he heard a voice and it was a woman. The woman then takes Tal and Milla away. Now he doesn't know if he will get back at all. This book was really good because you can really use your imagination a lot because you are in a different world. You can really feel the characters emotions because it is put into a lot of details. It tells you how the characters are supposed to feel. The characters are believable because they show real emotion. The plot is very intriguing and once you read a few pages you won't be able to put it down. I recommend this book to adventurous people and people who can really stretch their imaginations.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE most of Nix's books, but... Review: As I said in the title, I love most of the author's books, but this book was very disappointing. The characters are boring, and like another reviewer said, you don't really care what happens to Tal. The plot is predictable, you have almost no clue what the setting looks like, and the females are hardly portrayed as nice, strong, capable, or willing. In Sabriel, the main female character is very nice, strong, capable, and willing. Fortunately, I did not buy the whole set. I only bought the first 2 books. I will probably offend some people by saying this, but I will. Unless you like books by Garth Nix just because they are written by Garth Nix, DON'T waste your money on this book. Check it out from the library instead.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT! A must have book! Review: This is a great book for all ages. The idea for shadow-creatures is excellent! Gart Nix is an expert writer. I own the first three books and will be getting the next three soon!
Rating: Summary: Boring and predictable Review: This book is bad. The sequel is worse. The characters are flat and unreal, the story is boring and cliche, and the prose is terrible. It's typical teen fantasy drivel. Do yourself a favour and read something else.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book Review: The Seventh Tower: The Fall is a book you will not want to miss out on! It is the first book in an award winning series by Garth Nix. A wonder of literature, The Seventh Tower takes you on a journey of magic, monsters, darkness and danger. This is a book to remember! I give it two thumbs up and recommend it to anyone! If you like castles and adventure you will like this book. You will read this book over and over for many years to come. Share it with everyone. Neither you nor they will be disappointed!
