Rating: Summary: magical sorcery novel Review: I liked this book because it was different. I've never read any book like it. It was interesting to learn about Tal and his family's way of life. Their society depends on the light and power of sunstones. The story takes place with Tal's sick mom and his missing father, supposedly dead. Tal's father has their family's primary sunstone. If Tal does not get a new primary sunstone, his mother could die, he could lose his shadow guard, and join the underfolk, which are servants. Tal tries many things before realizing his only other option, climbing the tower to retrieve a fresh, ripe sunstone. But then Tal falls into a different world and finds a clan of warriors who Tal thinks are underfolk, and should be treated like servants. But they think that he is a thief on their land. So if Tal doesn't choose his words carefully, he could be killed. I recommend this book because it's like nothing you've ever read. Even if you don't like fantasy,it's great. I'm not a big fan of fantasy either, but it still was a great, exciting, and interesting novel. It's also a series. So far there are six books in the Seventh Tower Series. So get into the adventure and start reading.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book, I really recommend you read it Review: This series is fantasy readers must! If you like awesome adventure with creatures from different worlds, then this book you will definitely want to read. Magical powers, weird creatures and surprises in every chapter is just some of the contents in this wonderfully written book. Tal is a boy that has his future already set for him. However, that is not the way he wants it to be. He comes to find that one day, his father and father are missing without a trace, and his mother is deathly ill with an unknown cure. The whole book is all about Tal and his adventures in trying to find his brother and father. He is also trying to find a cure for his mother. On his journey to find these things, he meets what at one point seems like a foe, yet at other times, seems like a very helpful friend. The character Tal meets saves Tals life many times, despite the characters rage to sometimes kill Tal. If this summary sounds at all interesting to you, I totally recommend that you give the story a chance. I can honestly say that it was one of the best books I have ever read in my entire life. I have all the books in this series except for the brand new one. I cannot keep away from the book; it will hook you in with its tremendous suspense. I can guarantee that if you like this book, the others will be as fantastic as the first.
Rating: Summary: The Seventh Tower Book #1: The Fall Review Review: Tal is a Chosen boy living in the Castle called the Seven Towers. A Chosen is a person born to live in the Castle. All Chosen carry Sunstones. Sunstones are a type of rock carved out of the sun that is used as a weapon. The Castle is where the Chosen live. In the Castle there are ranks based on seven different colors. The highest rank color is violet and the lowest is red. Tal is in orange which is the second lowest. The Chosen in violet rule the Castle. The Castle is surrounded by ice. Tal must get a stronger Sunstone to be able to go to the spirit world called Aenir. In Aenir Tal must find a spiritshadow and get medicine for his mom. A spiritshadow would help Tal achieve higher ranks. Tal wants to be a high violet Chosen when he is an adult. Tal must climb the Castle in order to get a stronger sunstone. On his way up the Castle Tal meets a spiritshadow named the Keeper who throws Tal off the edge of the Castle and Tal begins to fall. This book is a great fantasy book which allows one to use their imaginations while it is also filled with action. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
Rating: Summary: An Exciting, Mysterious and Adventrous Novel Review: I saw the ad of The Seventh Tower in one of the Star Wars Jedi Apprentice Books, which I'm also a fan of. It seemed interesting since it was incooperation with Lucas Books. I was so excited when I first bought this. I read that this novel takes place in a very dark world covered by which they call, the veil, covers the suns light. Tal is one of the Chosen of the Castle, where he lives. There are 7 orders (levels) of the Castle, there is the Violet, the highest, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red, the lowest and the Underfolk, the servants. Tal desperatly tries to climb the Red Tower to get a primary sunstone, which holds sunlight and produces magic, to save his family. Tal crosses the veil and falls into a world of ice and darkness. Tal meets Milla, an Icecarl sheild maiden who will become his friend. I really enjoyed this book because there is lots of excitement, adventure and mystery. I recommend this book to all people, espescially to the bookworms out there. I am currently reading book 2 of this series.
Rating: Summary: Excellent start to a superior series! Review: Though I'm a bit over the recommended age for these books ... I've got to say that it's been quite a while since I read a fantasy that managed to be so cool, so well written, and so...different! Just the setting by itself is extroadinary, never mind the heartfelt and "real" seeming characters, the haunting yet clear writing style, and of course the deep and intracite plot that kept me guessing the whole way. By the time I finished, I was desperate for the sequel, which unfortunately I did not buy at the same time as this one. Anyway, thirteen year old Tal, a "chosen", has lived his entire life in Castle, a place in which everything is focused on social acheivement and advancment up to higher levels of Chosen, closer to the Empress. When Tal's father dissapears unexpectedly, with him is gone the family's Primary Sunstone, not only Tal's only hope for true accention into full Chosen status, but also the hope for a cure for his mother's strange wasting disease. Desperate to save his family, Tahl soon finds himself catapulted into the adventure of a lifetime... I won't give away the rest of the plot, but take my word for it, read this book, and you will be hooked for the series!
Rating: Summary: A Work of Genius Review: This book starts you out with great storytelling and continues through with great action sequences, suspense, and great spells. In my personal opinion, I see this book as a complete work of genius. And if Garth Nix is as smart as he appears to be then he should continue to entertain people with his magnificent storytelling.
Rating: Summary: full of fantasy Review: I've just finished "The Fall" book one of the seventh tower series and it's a great read for any age. The story line is easy to follow even with all the new monsters and animals of this fantasy world. The story captures you into the world of Tal and his family. Tal is a boy coming of age to his 13th birthday with a problem his father is missing or dead with the family sunstone. This sunstone is a primary source to his family's status in the orange order without it they'll lose there place in the orange tower and be forced into slavery as underfolks. This is unbearable to Tal, to even think of for himself, his ill mother, younger sister and brother. Try as he may to obtain a new sunstone to enter Aenir to get a new shadowguard and powerful magic to cure his sick mother. Tal is met with adversity at every step he take. Finally Tal has no other option but to try and steal a powerful primary sunstone. There is great danger ahead for Tal, he must be strong and witty to save his family. This is all book one and I'm looking forward to book two. I can't wait to find out how the now prisoner Tal gets out of this mess and back into the orange tower. The last time I was this EXCITED was reading Philip Pullman's HIS DARK MATERIALS. before that Octavia E. Butler's LILITH'S BROOD. This book was meant for my 12yr-old daugther but I'm hooked gotta get more.
Rating: Summary: The Seventh Tower Series' The Fall (Book 1) Review: Tal Graile-Rerem of the Orange Order of the Chosen has not been having the best of luck lately. His father, Rerem is missing, presumed to be dead, taking along with him their only live Primary Sunstone. His little brother, Gref, is missing. His sister, Kusi, has been put into the care of his evil cousins, Lallek and Korrek. And his most immediate problem is his mother, Graile. She has been sick, and when her Sunstone goes out, they all will be forever banished to the rank of the Underfolk, the worst possible punishment that a Chosen can receive. So he is climbing the Orange tower to get a Primary Sunstone. If he can get one, he can possibly promote his family to the Yellow Level. As he gets near the Veil, a mysterious cover that separates the real world from the spirit world of Aenir, he finds a free shadow, called the Keeper. Suddenly, he is picked up by the wind and carried out, far, far away. So far, he is dropped onto the Ice, and he can't see the Castle. There's nothing out there. Or is there? How will Tal get back to his home in the Castle? Read the first book of this compelling series, "The Fall", to find out!I liked this book best because of the action-packed second half. The story kind of plodded along during the first part, but after that, it became more interesting as Tal journeyed towards home, to look for a sunstone for his family. It also became pretty neat to see the way that he sees his world. I'd recommend this book to readers ages 8-14, and also to fiction and fantasy lovers that think they are up for a bit of an adventure!
Rating: Summary: The Rise of... Review: The Rise Of... The Seventh Tower; The Fall By,Garth Nix 2000 Tal and Milla are on a dangerous quest, each for their own people. They hate each other, but they must work together to survive. When Tal falls off the Red Tower, his life changes forever. One for their clan and one just to get home. My favorite part is when Tal and Milla fight a huge uni-horned Wreska! "Tal saw the tower spinning above him. Falling..." This book is great for fantasy readers. I give this book a 4 out of 5. (It's not perfect...) It's awsome! :P
