Rating: Summary: Shonen-ai addicts, here's a good one for ya! Review: "Demon Diary" by Lee Chi Hyong is an excellent series, both from a visual and storyline point of view. A fantasy action/comedy, Hyong's work follows the story of Raenef, a cute and friendly demon lord (this seems to be an oxymoron for his tutor, Eclipse) who was appointed to office in a rather accidental way. Interweaving action with comedy and drama, you'll find yourself page-flipping from Chapter 1 (background is covered in a flashback-chapter later, as it should be).
Many readers will notice that Hyong's artistic style is rather unique. Almmost every type of screentone imaginable is used in the series, from the texture of Eclipse's robe to stick-figure fish icons (used to show mood, and in the foreground). Footnotes and dialogue occasionally refer outside of the setting as well, to quote, "the protagonist... is over THERE".
Overall, the art, characters and story of Hyong/Kara's "Demon Diary" makes for an engaging read. I recommend "Demon Diary" as honestly one of my all-time favourites.
Rating: Summary: HOW DARE YOU ADMONISH ME? VERMIN! Review: As most people have already said, you don't expect much from this when you first see it. But I thought it looked interesting, so I got it. It's a good thing I did. This is probably the best manga I've read so far...It's got everything: It looks nice has great characters and a good storyline. I was disappointed when I saw the second one was written by a different person, but they did a good job and I couldn't even tell the difference. This series has a yaoi (male/male) relationship, but even people who don't like that probably wouldn't mind this to much because it's subtle (so far). In short this manga is definitely worth picking up and it'll have you laughing hystaricly almost the whole time
Rating: Summary: Loved it to death! Review: Basically, this is a lovely story about an innocent little demon named Reanef, being tutored to be a demon lord by an older, more experienced demon named Eclipse. The main story was very cute, Raenef is absolutely adorable. I didn't think it was really as funny as it was meant to be, and not nearly enough backround information is given. But you can basically understand what's going on. The art is absolutely beautiful, especailly in Terra, the second little bonus story. The two side stories are amazing, Terra is a little hard to follow at one point, but Crystal Heart is fabulous, it almost made me cry. Anyway, I strongly recommend this book, but if you're only into mega shounin-ai-ness (did i spell that right?) then this isn't your book. There's a little bit in Crystal Heart, but none in Terra and only some tiny references in the main story.
Rating: Summary: Yet another obsession Review: Demon Diary is a great book. I can't wait to get the next one!!! It has a weird plot that you think could'nt last more than a few pages, but the great characters make up for that and more. Lord Raneff is one of the best characters I have seen in awile. This book is definetly unique and a great manga to read! If you liked this you should read Vampire Game (by Judal). It's also unique and very funny!!!
Rating: Summary: Kawaiiiii Review: Demon Diary is about a young bishonen, named Raenef, who has been chosen to be the next great demon lord. Only problem is that the cute, lovable boy is anything but demon lord material, much to the dismay of his older and wiser tutor, Eclipse. In the first volume, we are introduced to our characters and not too much happens. Raenef tries to please Eclipse by acting demon lord-like, but dismally fails with his cute entergetic non-gloomy attitude. The volume ends with a knight invading the castle thing while Eclipse is away on a trip, so the inexperienced Raenef has to try to deal with him by himslef. Cute story, very mild shonen-ai warning. Two short stories follow the one above. Both of which are confusing and boring wastes of space- I wish they couldv'e just continued demon diary instead of including them. Be warned; when I first read it I didn't realize these stories were just added on randomly, and since the art is the same and the characters look the same but younger, i thought they were some weird flashback sequence and I was really confused. When the second story begins, the "the end" written at the end of the first one is really tiny and it seems like a weird stopping place, so you tihng the second story is a continuatiion of the first, until you get 3 pages into it and you come across the title. Think this paragraph was confusing? It's noting compared to these two short stories. But i shall write about them below, despite how I have already bashed them: The first, called "Crystal Heart", is about some boy who wants to save some girl but he has to find the "crystal heart" to pay the ransom. The gem turns out to be what your heart turns into when you fall in love with someone, and so his friend rips out his heart-now-gem and gives it to him. Then the girl turns out to be evil and kills everyone....it's really weird and doesn't make sense at all. (Demon Diart takes up 115 pages, and the two short stories each take up 20 or 30.) The second, called "Terra", takes place in the future. The goddess of the earth has eloped, so the earth is dying. A young boy is leading a magician through the desert to find the runaway godess so he can trap her and force her to return the world to it's former state of beaty. Then the magician finds out the goddess is really inside the boy who's leading him around becuase he had a sister who got her heart broken by someone like the magician. Again, I know this sounds confusing, but that's because it is. I think the publisher stuck these two in because they are done by the same illustrator as "demon diary", (a different person writes it), and the manga wasn't long enough by itself.
Rating: Summary: It reads from left to right because... Review: hey hey it's me( if you don't know who me is it's mewme I write alot of reviews 4 many manga/anime books) anyhoo on to more important matters. the reason i am review'in this book is because the art is fantastic and the plot is most touch'in. now before i continue i just want to clear up some thing ok in this story Raenef and Eclipse(Raenef's sutor)have a relationship. now both of them are guys but NO they r not gay. is it wrong to like some one the same sex as you as a friend? no I didn't think so!!! my god you people can be so clueless at times.(really sorry bout that it's just some times i can over react bout things) kk now that thats done i have 1more things to clear up heres the next one: you may notice that through out the series the authors change the reason for this is because Lee chi Hyong needed to go back to unisevsity and tack the exams. kk now that thats all cleared up I just need to say one thing this is a amazing book and trust me I don't waste my time review'in junk. worth every single penny you spend on it thx for erad'in ma review and look for the demon diary series in your neares book store. P.s.: they are some what expensive and trust me be'in 12 and try'in 2 afford them ain't easy but trust me they r a great investment from mewme
Rating: Summary: "If you're a demon lord then I'm a God!" "Wow you're a God?" Review: I absolutely adore Demon Diary! I've read up to the third book so far and bought the first and second. Demon Diary is about a comical demon lord Raenef who finds out from Eclipse that he is a demon lord. The only problem? He acts nothing like a demon lord should! He apologizes, bows, acts childish, but is so lovable that even Eclipse can't stay mad at him for long. Eclipse, his teacher is a famous demon, and try as he might, he cannot get Raenef to act as he should. Will Raenef ever make a decent demon lord? Only the Gods know... although I personally think he will continue being the lovable little bishonen that he is. And I absolutely adore his little "How dare YOU admonish ME vermin?!" It left me in hysterics, along with who he was talking to! Another thing, which many other reviewers have already mentioned, is the side stories which are not connected to Demon Diary (Well, I recently figured that out after being confused as to who they were and how a crystal heart played into the story... *blushes*). The first one is Crystal Heart, about a boy determined to free a female prisoner, but at the cost of someone else's life, someone very close to him. Terra was a bit more confusing for me, from what I could understand, a boy wants to protect his sister, who supposedly holds a goddess within herself... he doesn't yet realize who he holds within himself... Overall: Spectacular plot, pictures, and side stories. A subtle hint of yaoi/shonen ai/slash/homosexuality but it is so subtle, not many people even notice it. I heartily recommend this for anyone who is curious about it!
Rating: Summary: Awesome. Amazing Review: I actually read the korean version b4 and was very happy when I saw that it was going to be translated in to english. It has art, humor and story. I think it's also yaoi thou.. (gayguys?) It's very fun and very cute! It has one of the most excellent art I have seen. VERY VERY Cute. Drawn by KARA (the 2 woman team. One writes the story and one's the artist, i believe) Tokyo Pop never really gets good korean mana (korean manga) for some reason and mostly gets titles most ppl never heard of.. I even accidentally found this title when i was searching for a Mana artist... And when I read it, i was satistfied that the story was good as the art. It's about a boy (who looks more like a girl thou) who's trying to become a demon king or something like that and his mentor, Eclipse... I hope to read more but I have to find the korean version now.. ( i think 6 volumes came out so far) but I tell u, this is worth buying.
Rating: Summary: straight off:I thought it was wondeful! Review: I have to say, that I took one look at the cover art, and that's what hooked me in. It was absolutely amazing artwork, and when I started to read it, I knew I had to buy it. Even from the first few pages, you knew it was hilarious. The main character Raenef is training to be a demon lord, with no clue how to go about it. He get's into hilarious situations in which he cluelessly goes about doing things totally out of demon-lord like character, and Eclipse, his mentor, despairs of ever seeing Raenef become one, and gapes in astonishment in the wake of a clueless Raenef. Despite this however, Eclipse finds himself genuinly liking his pupil, even though a proper Demon Lord shouldn't be likable at all. Of course, this is the first volume, it only goes thorugh generally getting ot know the characters background, setting, and the growing relationship between Eclipse and Raenef. It's pretty humerous, and the art is magnificent, the pictures are beautifully drawn, and if you're deciding to get it, I say you should!
Rating: Summary: Cute and funny, I loved it. Review: I just bought this book today, on impulse and based on the beautiful cover art. -smile- And let me tell you, I wasn't disappointed in the least. First off, everyone should be warned that this manga/manwha contains shounen-ai [boy's love], which means a male/male pairing. If this bothers you, this book is not for you. The story is pretty simple and uneventful thus far, most of the first volume is spent watching the demon Eclipse struggle to teach his prestige, Raenef, how to act like a proper DemonLord. These parts, however, prove to be quite hilarius -Raenef is utterly clueless and innocent, making Eclipse's job all the much harder. -smile- The story probably won't stay mostly comedy though, as Raenef leaves off on an adventure, so hopefully we'll get some butt-kicking action in there! -grin- The art is typically shoujo [girl's] -plenty of bishounen [pretty boys] to oogle [haha], cute and exaggerated expressions, cute designs in the backgrounds, and the characters spending a good amount of time in chibi/super deformed format. All in all, the art is quite beautiful; a real treat for the eyes if you're fond of [or even if you're not] the shoujo style. This story is obviously steered towards a female audience, but I'd recommend this to anyone whom loves a cute and funny storyline with wonderful art. (^_~)
