Rating: Summary: You Don't Know Me. Review: Imagine when you were little your dad ran away and never came back! Your moms new boyfriend would beat you when she was not there, then at school you had to explain about the mysterious bruises. When you had just about had it with your life, your so called dad ( your moms new boyfriend) proposed to your mom and sadly your mom said yes. This character named Jon, is a young troubled kid living in a poor neighborhood in a rich town. This is a excerpt, from the book describing the main character's feelings, in a letter to his mom. The powerful feelings are told throughout the entire book. It goes as follows, "I never told anyone but you. Hi my name is Jon! Why did my dad name me after a bathroom appliance? Anyway, mom you don't know me. What do you think he does to me when you are gone? School is torture, especially algebra. In my daydreams I call the teacher Mrs.Moonface. But luckily I survive class only because I sit next to Glory HALLELUJAH!! I liked her for years! But does she like me? Did you know my so called father hides a PISTOL in your sock drawer? No you don't! Why aren't you home anymore? You could fill out information about me; age, sex, height, and weight. That's only the outside of me. You really don't know me. Maybe after you read this you'll understand what I go through each day. Then you'll know me". The boy used to have a good relationship with the mom before she met this evil man. This man changed their whole lifestyle and controlled everything that went on. Putting the boy in uncontrollable situations and not letting him grow up to do the things he wanted to do made him lonely with no friends. I liked this book a lot, because it was very powerful, even though I could not relate to it. It made me feel more aware of my surroundings, and that a lot of peoples lives are not perfect. Sadly every day many people have big problems in life, fighting, abuse, harassment. I recommend this book to anyone who likes realistic books. This book is about a family going through hard times and getting over the hard times. In some parts you won't want to put this down because the author gets you so hooked! The author uses great word choices in describing parts of the book. In some of the more serious parts, you can actually feel like you are there ( not that you always want to be there). This book is mostly serious but very funny In some parts!
Rating: Summary: You have got to read this book!! Review: This story is about a boy named John, who does not really fit in until he has a date with the most popular girl in school. John's father left him and his mother when he was young. Now John has a soon-to-be stepfather, which by the way beats him. John's mother does not know about the beating of her only child. John goes on a date but the date turns out to be a run from fights and police. They manage to get out and go to Gloria's, John's date, house. They go down to Gloria's basement and she tries to get him to get comfortable with him on the large couch. John does not feel comfortable remembering what her father has told him. John has to go through a tunnel just to survive. When he finally gets home, he goes through a lot more trouble. That is when John finds out that he is going to have an abusive father. There are many great parts in the book but there is also one thing that I did not like. I did not like how it was so confusing and it was hard to follow. The good parts are because it was suspenseful and it was great because it was as if I could see the whole story happen.
Rating: Summary: You Don't Know Me Review: This boy has been trouvled for life. with a family that is nearl disfunctional and having no true friends at school he is the reason why teens these days commit suicide. David Klass captures the point of perfevtly. putting you into his shoes. Whats going on in his head. Nearly perfect. The way he uses all the metaphors is simply amazing. making you think you know whats going to happen but then it doesn't. Unless your a super person that can predict everthing you won't. I am only fifteen years old and i read it in a day. I couldn't put the book down. i related to the book in so many different ways you wouldn't belive it. i suggest this to people that actually want a summary of what goes on in a teens head. Definately a must read!
Rating: Summary: A Satirical Masterpiece Review: David Klass' book, You Don't Know Me, is probably ranking with the top ten best books I have ever had the privilege of reading in my life. Few books can make me laugh out loud and then make me cry uncontrollably a few pages later, and yet this book does. I have never felt so deeply for a main character in a book, and at the very climax, the book made me cry with it's brilliant and heart-breaking sequence of events. The conclusion is sweet and heart-warming without dripping with unrealistic sap and drivel. It is excellent, and every high-schooler should read it. The story begins with a lovable character named John, whom, despite his difficult situation in life, seems to have something amuisng to say about everything. The book explores the insides of his mind, recording his ramblings and thoughts which are all funny in a sad, solemn way. John goes through terrible trials but makes you proud to "know" him because of his strong heart and undominitable spirit. The conclusion dissovles John's indifference to people he is sure do not know him in an unpredicatable way, with a seemingly quiet and distant character coming to the fore and reassuring him that he is very important, and very known. This novel protrays the somewhat glorified but honest mind of a young adolescent who is not even quite adolescent inside. His experiences will chew you up and spit you out and give you a lot to think about. It's emotions are vivid: the hate is gripping, the love warm, and the courage invigorating. Suffice it to say that You Don't Know Me is a book that is a underrated masterpiece. Read it, now!

Rating: Summary: An Emotional Yet Imaginative Book Review: You Don't know me by David Klass is a book that shows what really happens to boys whose fathers have a shady life, to say the least. John is a boy who has an imagination like a young child. He can turn almost anything into something totally different. Sadly his mom's boyfriend beats him severely and soon learns a new way to abuse the frail boy. Since John has no real friends he takes inanimate objects and makes them real. All in all the book took me on a journey that filled me with sadness close to making me cry. This is because near the end of the book a sad twist takes place leaving me with an impression that will never be faded.
Rating: Summary: You Don't Know Me Review: In the book, "You Don't Know Me" the reader is carried through many emotions that the main character John is challenged with. The book shows the way many teenagers think and deal with problems in their home and at school. At the beginning of the novel John constantly uses the statement, "You don't know me at all." He is dealing with many difficult times in his home. One difficult situation is that his mother is remarrying. The man, is a guy that she knows nothing about because she is rarely home. John's mother works all day at the factory and comes home to go to sleep. She is never there to see what John's soon to be stepfather does to him, and what his expectations are on a day to day basis. John is challenged with going to algebra class, which he calls an anti-math class. Many times the teacher calls on him to answer a question that no one knows how to answer. In his band class he is forced to play the tuba which is often portrayed as a frog. As the story progresses we find that John has a crush on a girl in his class. Even though his friend Billy announced that he was going to ask her out, John got to her first. Through dating Gloria, John became a wiz in math and could play the tuba marvelously. As John gets to know Gloria Hallelujah he finds that dating a beautiful girl is not the best person to date due to what they expect from their boyfriend. John gets in deep trouble due to what he has done with Gloria and starts harassing his teachers. As John has to spend more time at home, he is whipped and tortured almost every day by the man who is not his father. In the end the reader will be able to answer if John will get away from the man who is not his father and be able to tell his mother all that he has had to suffer with, or will he have to stay in his anti-life and be tortured? I liked this book because it relates to many people around me. I found that it was hard to put down due to the way each chapter ends in a mystery. I do recommend you read this book because it allows everyone to see the other side of a caring family.
