Summary: The Ear, The Eye, and The Arm
Review: The year is 2194. Tendai couldn't wait to get out of his house to get his Explorer's Badge for becoming an Eagle Scout. General Matsika's three children, Tendai, Rita, and Kuda have been stuck in their compound since they were born. Their father will not let them out until he bans the only remaining gang in Zimbabwe, the Masks, who might kidnap the children if they were let outside. When finally Tendai's Praise Singer makes a plan to let the children out of the house Tendai, Rita, and Kuda are kidnapped, just as their father had suspected. The kids are taken to the Dead Man's Vlei where they have to work mining for plastic, a now rare and very valuable object. The leader of the Dead Man's Vlei, the She Elephant, says she is going to sell the chilldren to the Masks. While this is going on, General Matsika and his wife are searching everywhere when the Praise Singer tells the mother some detectives he knows. So Mother calls The Ear, The Eye, and The Arm, three very different detectives who have special abilities that match their names. So, now we go back to the children. From the Dead Man's Vlei they escape and are taken to Resthaven, a village in Zimbabwe, where Tendai and Rita are accused of using witchcraft on one of the villagers. Then, after that, the children get out of Resthaven and find the way to their Praise Singer's mother's house. Bur the leader of the Dead Man's Vlei, the She Elephant still won't give up selling them to the Masks. The story leaps back and forth into different settings every chapter. This book is for readers who like action novels. The book jumps from the Dead Man's Vlei to the swaying top of the Mile-HIgh MacIlwaine Hotel. Can the Matsika children escape from the city and find their way back home? My favorite character in the story was Rita because she didn't give up telling her opinion and she always liked to argue. My favorite scene was when Tendai, Rita, and Kuda were unable to leave a village called Resthaven because Tendai and Rita were accused of being witches. I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars. I think The Ear, The Eye, and The Arm was good because the author put a lot of adventure into the story. This book keeps you interested and when you reach the end you want more to happen!

It had all started when one-day the Matiska's parents left for work and the kids were left at home. Since they, Tendai and Rita were in scouts (Kuda is to young) they wantd the Eagle badge which said they had to go on an adventure for a day. At first Tendai said no but the other kids persuaded him. Once they are on their way to many different problems, which they can only begin to begin to believe about. They differ bewtween a talking blue monkey and a woman named the She Elephant, which I think, explains itself.
They begin at a famous for it's trade and hope they go to another beautiful city but in the middle of the adventure they encounter a trap with a blue monkey and it's owner are brought to there camp. From then on in the story Tendai, Rita, and Kuda are taken too many places and are recaptured and saved recaptured and saved etc. The Matiska's parents, once they find out that their children are missing they hire a detective agency that is called The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm so the detectives are named The Ear the Eye and the Arm. They all have their own special abilities.
Read this book to find out about how it is to have two to three different stories in one book and then all at the end all of them intertwine all together and makes up a conclusion.

Summary: things Aren't Always What They Seem
Review: How would you like it if you lived in a jail with little communication with the outside world? Would you like to escape? Would you like to be free to play in the wonderful nature? That is just what Tendai's life was like in his house in Zimbabwe in the science fiction book, The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm, by Nancy Farmer. In all of Tendai's 11 years he was never able to venture outside. It was now the year 2194.
After years and years of being cooped up in in his house, Tendai decides to go on an adventure for boy scouts to get his eagle Scout badge. When he is able to sneak out, he takes his younger sister Rita and his younger brother Kuda to go on his adventure to the unknown streets of the town. There is a catch though. Three detective named the Ear, the Eye, and the Arm, hired by the childrens mother and father, are after them to bring them back to safety.
After being kidnapped, enslaved in a plastic mine, and almost sacrificed, the kids find out that things aren't always what they seem.
The coolest thing about this book is that the mother and father hire the weirdest detectives in town. Ear has big ears that can hear very well, Eye has big eyes that can see very well, and Arm has Streachy arms and can read peoples minds as long as he is touching them. These detectives are always one step away from saving the kids fom the devilish grasp of the villains that want to kidnap the kids.
The adventure that Tendai had, probably made him think twice about leaving his house. Throughout the book, the main question is, Will the Children Live to get Back Home?
