By the time I was through the first pages it had grabbed my. I am astonished by the balance of humor and touching moments. The story itself is very moving and I completely was fascinated by each and every character. There are so many startling events and twists that I could never put the book down. This is by far the best book I have read this year if not ever. Being a teenage reader, I reccommend this book for anyone of any age.

Hope, an acclaimed waitress, and her Aunt Addie, a widely acclaimed diner cook, have toured the country working at different diners. Before the twosome leave each diner, Hope writes/carves her mark - "Hope Was Here". Hope and her aunt embark on a little town in Wisconsin. There Hope meets G.T. Stoop, the owner of the diner where Hope and her aunt work. G.T., who has leukemia, decides to run for mayor in an attempt to defeat a corrupt incumbant. Hope is at G.T.'s side, serving somewhat as an assistant, helping him with the campaign - G.T. leaves a lasting impression on Hope. _Hope Was Here_ is a great novel. This novel is great for teaching characterization and plot. This novel is not only helpful in the English classroom, but also helpful in a history classroom as it discusses politics - campaigning (dirty at times) and voting. This book reaches readers of all academic levels. This book also teaches one that he/she grows stronger through adversity. This was a wonderful novel!

As a waitress, she learns a lot about people. Even though Hope doesn't feel she'll survive the latest move to a small town, she soon realizes there's more to small towns than meets the eye. This book is sure to evoke a variety of emotions from the reader. All teenagers should read this book to realize teenagers can and do make a big difference, and things are not always as bad as they seem. This is a wonderful book.

Bauer looks at life from a charming and humorous perspective while also exploring very deep issues in a sensitive and heart-warming manner. Hope has been living with her Aunt where her mother left her, while Addie has been victim to a cheating husband. In Wisconsin they begin working at the Welcome Stairways, a small diner run by a man named G.T. Stoop. Business is as usual until G.T., who is suffering from lukemia, announces that he is running for mayor, against the considered unbeatable Eli Millstone and his corrupt and dishonest ways. Hope somehow ends up helping G.T. on his campaign, alongside a cast of friendly, fun characters. Braverman, the honest boy who flips burgers at the diner to support his family, who Hope finds a friend and maybe more in; Adam, the high school politician who insists on dragging his spin doctor uncle down to help, despite G.T. 's protests; Gillian, with whom Hope becomes good friends with; Lou Ann and her ailing baby, who, with a little of a mother's love and care from those around her, makes it through her difficulties; Flo, the happy, friendly waitress; Aunt Addie, who's rocky relationship with G.T. grows into a budding romance. And last of all, G.T. himself, with his kind and gentle ways and good intentions, who is intent on exposing Eli and improving the town while fighting his battle with cancer. Read the book to find out if he suceeds. This is a sweet and heartfelt novel that I think almost anyone would like. I would highly recommend to any avid reader.

It is about a young girl name Tulip but channged her name to Hope. Hope is a perpect name for her it is her inspration she tries to live up to her name each day. She belives people count and look up to her because of her name so she always have to set good examples and be a good roll model and leader. She faces many teenage problems in this novel but excel in all areas. This Book was so good I reccomend anyone who loves to read good books that keep you on the edge of your seat. Everyone will love the way Joan Bauer writes. She makes you feel as if your actully there and living the life of the main characters.
