Summary: I passed with this book!
Review: I studied for the CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Lit test using this study guide exclusively. I passed with flying colors. But I am not sure I learned anything "New" with this book. Like the customer-reviewer before I found many of the answers from the practice tests debateable. Nonetheless I was able to focus on my particular weaknesses, namely to read the passages from the test more closely, to slow down while reading. So I would suggest to do alternate reading for terms and definitions relating to the test, but use this book for the practice tests, WHICH ARE VERY HELPFUL because really the CLEP test is all about reading, analyzing, and interpreting a la minute. And the only way you are going to get any better at that is to practice practice practice.

Summary: Buy this book with some reservations

Summary: Good Review but you need basic skills
Review: I took the test last week and made a 65. I was so happy because this test was by far the hardest CLEP I had taken. The other test I took was sociology and I received a 72 with the help of this publisher. The answers to the questions in the book are fairly subjective. They could go several different ways. The test I found much easier then the book though. Overall I feel the book is a good buy and really gets you ready for the type of questions on the test. There was one section in the test that was not even mentioned in the book though. It consisted of 5 questions that I'm sure I missed. I feel that for this CLEP you really have to have a natural ability to analyze literature and dig mentally for the meaning, if you don't this book or no other is really going to help you.

Summary: Get this book!
Review: I used this book and passed the CLEP test with a 68 (A). This book is great. I used the practice tests only and studied off and on for about five weeks before I took the test. I now have six more credits to my name. This was my third CLEP and I used the REA books for all three; they have been right on the money so far.

Summary: Pretty Good Book
Review: I was already fairly competent at understanding, but this book did help me pass the CLEP. I scored in the upper 90's of the percentile range. It is real easy to skip over definitions, but they were the most helpful thing after considering the practice tests. It's not the easiest test I ever took, so good luck!

Summary: I Got An "A" With This Book
Review: I was exposed to this subject matter many years ago, and although the terms were familiar, their definitions certainly were not (I couldn't even remember how to spell iambic pentameter - let alone it's definition). I will admit there is so much information in here, I thought I might barely pass. Not only did I pass, but when I compared my scaled score to the graded score (another helpful section of this book), I found out I not only passed, but got an "A". Certainly a result of good preparation (and a bit of divine intervention)

I purchased another company's CLEP prep book for a different topic (this author didn't have the subject I needed) and was disappointed it could not compare to this one.

Well worth the money

Summary: Clep Analyzing and Interpreting Literature:
Review: Not a bad deal for the money and time I saved!! I spent three weeks studying the CLEP manual and passed the exam. Be sure to follow the instructions exactly and you will succeed!!

Summary: Let me be the lone dissenter here!
Review: This book is not worthless, but there are bettter prep helps available.

The intro coaching material is unduely verbose. The intro and glossary of any Lit Anthology will be more concise, literate, and elevating. The sample tests here are uneven. On the one hand, Practice Test 3's questions 66-60 quite nicely test one's grasp of basic literary terms applied to Shakespeare's Sonnets; on the other, the next section's prose reading passage contains enough ambiguity (Qs 70, 71, and 74), that I'm not sure what one is learning! The answers are just too debatable to make an effective prep tool.

MUCH more concise in prepping and testing for this CLEP is the second half of Princeton Review's Cracking the SAT II: English.
Only the multiple choice test length is different, making this a far better learning tool and investment of your precious time.

Summary: Good study guide but you need more...
Review: This is a good study guide and it will help you understand poems and literature but will not give you any answers to questions. The sample questions were the biggest help. You really need to read some poems and short stories and become comfortable with interpreting them. I read this book, some poems and short stories and took the test all in 3 weeks and passed with a 56. DO NOT waste your time memorizing all of the Rules of Poetry and definitions unless you feel you want to get those 4 questions right.
