Summary: REA does it again!
Review: I am a CLEP maniac and always use the books from REA. I studied for 6 weeks and passed the exam. The tests in the back were perfect for preparation. I strongly recommend anybody taking CLEP exams to buy only the books from REA, they clearly are the leaders. Don't delay, buy the book and CLEP today!

Summary: Best Prep Material I've Found
Review: I had just decided to finish my degree and was dreading taking 2 literature classes that I needed so instead I thought I'd try the CLEP. I have no background in literature and I haven't attended a class in nearly 10 years. I used only this book, I read the review, did all of the practice tests and then reviewed the detailed explanations for all of my wrong answers, I'd say I spent about 40 hours total studying and I work full time so this was sporadic. I took the test and passed with a 72, I highly recommend this book!

Summary: Haven't tried the CLEP for this one yet...
Review: I have had this book for a few weeks and haven't tried the CLEP test yet. There is a LOT of information in here, too much to absorb quickly. Poetry is my tripping point and this book goes into detail on how to analyze poetry, after a few weeks of review I'm still not feeling ready for the test.

Summary: Well worth it
Review: I haven't had a literature class in 15 years. I read this book cover to cover 2 times and scored a 68 on the Clep (50 is passing).

Summary: The only book I used to pass
Review: I haven't taken a Literature class since high school (over 10 years ago), and this was the only book I used in preparation for the exam. I passed with a 54 - not a great score, but enough for a pass and that's what matters to me.

I found some of the information presented in the text useful because it refreshed things I learned years ago, but most of it was unnecessary. There were entire sections of the text devoted to the different types of structure for poetry, and I just skipped over them. I didn't see any questions for that on the test. In fact, I feel I could have skipped the text entirely (as suggested by other reviews). The real strength of this book is the practice questions - be sure to read and understand the explanations to the questions you don't get right. That will get you familiar with the format of the questions on the exam.

One last suggestion when taking the exam (contrary to what is stated in the text): if you don't know the question, don't answer it. The CLEP tests are scored on questions you answer correctly - unanswered questions don't count against you. I skipped over the entire Shakespeare section in the exam (around 10 questions) because it makes no sense to me. I still passed.

Summary: I passed with this book!
Review: I just recently took the Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP and passed! I definitely owe all the credit to this book, because I didn't study anything else! The practice tests are very accurate and the literature review is concise and easy-to-read. I studied for about two weeks, maybe less. Definitely well worth it!

Summary: Read all the reviews for advice, take the test.
Review: I read all the reviews and decided to use this book and the second half of Princeton Review's Cracking the SAT II for writing and literature (which was recommended in another review) for preparation. I have no background in this material and used nothing else to prepare. I didn't even make it through the last practice exam in the Princeton book. I also took the advice of only going through the practice questions in this book and only read the first few pages of the review portion. I did go through all of the review portion in the Princeton book.

From the practice tests, and in the real test, I definitely did not get the sense that "I got it" as another reviewer writes. When I clicked to finish the exam, I really thought it could be pass or fail. I passed in the low 70's where the max score is 80. The testing person said the way I felt was the way most do regarding the test, including one that had passed it that morning. So, this is what worked for me. I studied for a few days and basically agree with everyone else, just go for it!

Summary: clep test
Review: I recently tok the English lit test and was surprised at how easier it was than I expected. It is possible to over study for these tests. My one suggestion is DO NOT buy the Rudman's study guides! they are full of obscure questions that will never be asked on the test> I bought one for the engl. lit and was cowed into thinking I had to know more than I actually did, putting off the test for a year longer than necessary. I would recommend the REA how to study for the cbast as a good guide for learning how to interpret lit from all genres.

Summary: Passed with the help of this book
Review: I simply do not understand Literature. I only studied from this book and passed the clep exam. I studied for two weeks prior. I recommend this book.
