Summary: Indian Traditions Alive and Die!
Review: I'm a student in an English 1 Honors class, and we had to read this book. Its about an average book. It's really descriptive of the old ways of a Ute. If you like that type of book you would enjoy this one. However, I believe it was drawn out to long. It could have been shortened about 50-100 pages in my opinion. It is a descent book though.

Summary: When the Legends Die or the dictionary? Take your pick
Review: This book is pretty much the most boring book I have ever read, excluding the dictionary. The sentence structure is too simple to keep a five year old's attention. The characters have nothing to them. They are utterly unbelievable and you can not relate to them at all. This book doesn't even have a plot: it tells about a boy. There are four sections that do not even flow together. When you start reading a section, it is like you are beginning a new book. The book was also too descriptive, Mr. Borland would waste five pages describing a horse's coat. I am sorry but I think it takes all the fun out of reading when there is absolutely no activity going on it your brain trying to imagine what could be. This book also uses totally irrelevant comparisons. At one point, the boy's life was compared to an onion. I understand the point of the book. You are supposed to realize that you cannot try to be someone that you are not. Don't get me wrong, that is a great life lesson. Unfortunately, I don't think it takes 289 pages to learn that. If you don't mind consuming a lot of caffeine, or reading about the same event twenty times, I would strongly suggest that you read this book.

Summary: When the Legends Die, thank goodness
Review: Hi, I had to read this book for school, and let me tell you, it was one of the worst books I have ever read. It was so bad because there were to many characters, and it was just plain boring!

Summary: Great read, learn something about who you are
Review: This book is one of the best I have read. People that are dissing it are thick-headed and criticize the book because the deeper meanings fly over their head. I believe everyone can relate to Tom in at least one way or the other. You don't have to be older to get this book! The young can read this, I am only in eighth grade! Read it for yourself; don't skip this classic because of what the unintellectual mass that have attempted (or not attempted) to understand this book have said about it. I believe you will enjoy it.

Summary: This Book I Think was one of the best taht I have read.
Review: This book has some of the best detail out of all of the books that I have read. I just love the description of the avalanche and the way the boy buries his mom. I like the way they describe the school and the way that the boy doesn't like their ways.

Summary: My Least Favorite Book
Review: This book really didn't do anything for me, besides bore me and depress me. The description was uninteresting, the plot kept spiraling downhill, and I could not identify with any of the characters. Now, I'm not going to say that other people shouldn't like it or that you won't like it. It obviously had a great deal of time an energy put into writing it, however it really had nothing that appealed to me. If I were you, I would spend my money on something else; there are plenty of wonderful classics out there.

Summary: Want a good sleep? read this book
Review: I had to read this for grade 10 advanced English and I must tell you that it was horrible! I forget half of what I read because it was just so boring! the author compares the boys life to an onion.... an onion! how boring is that!? I lost interest in this book half way through. I agree that the author did put in too much information that wasn't needed. It was easy to read, but I didn't enjoy this one bit.

Summary: I thouroghly enjoyed this book!!!!!
Review: I chose this book from my reading log in honors english and am in the middle of it and can't put it down. I read A Light in the Forest last year and to me is resembles it completely. When I finish the book, I will recommend the book to many of my classmates.

Summary: Unlike any other-full of sadness, joy, humor, & disappointment
Review: The book is well-written and reading it is easy. This book is one of those books that seem to never end. The author provides too much unnecessary details that by the time he gets to his point the reader is no longer interested in what the author has to say (or falls asleep before he or she even finishes reading it). I do not recommend this book to anyone, unless one is interested in similar types of stories.

Summary: Vivid description of the life of a Native American boy.
Review: The main character, Tom Black, faces many conflicts throughout the book. He begins in the mountains, and travels for several years. His conflicts are vividly described and he incorporates his traditions and upbringing in the way he solves his conflicts. His life teaches many lessons to the reader, although it is a rather slow read and a fairly long book.
