Summary: um...
Review: I too had to read this book for an english assignment. I personally really liked it. The first english book ive read in a while that i would consider reading again. And in response to teenagers not being able to relate to this book, that is untrue, a good percentage of teenagers probably have no clue about the sort of stuff described in this book... but then theres places like Wyoming.... So just read this book its pretty cool

Summary: from a high school student
Review: i had to read this book my junior year and while most of the class hated it, i had to disagree. the main character, thomas black bull, takes an interesting journey through life. i appreciated how none of the story was terribly predictable just as life is not predictable. i also appreciated how the author didn't focus on any unneeded romance and focused more on thomas and the effects of all that he was going through. it's definitely not a feel-good book; it's meant to make you think and think, you will.

Summary: About Whern the legends dies
Review: I had to do a group english project on this book and we found it to be average. The plot and charatcers make it a great book to read if yor into Indian Civilization. But I really don't think it would catch the attention of teenagers today when it did in the early sixies when it was published. Since the book has like four huge chapters its really hard to follow the scenery because of its length and complex plot. So I think its okay but just not all that great

Summary: **When the legends Die**
Review: In my opinion I believe this is a pretty good book and it's well written. It shows how many Native Americans are being almost forced into the new ways, and having to leaving there old ways be hide. The main character is faced with many hard choices and faces many problems though out the book, for example when he is just a child, he and his mother and her man must escape to the mountains. Then not to long after that his father is killed when out hunting. Then just to top it all off his mom is killed so I will say the author wasn't making it too easy for brother bear (Thomas Black Bull). One Down side to the story was Hal Borland (the writer) didn't really give Thomas black bull any feelings well he did, but he never really showed then he was more of a quite boy who kept everything to himself and never spoke of his feelings, but to my surprise at the end of the book Thomas came off in someway almost happy with his new life or being in the rodeo and happy with himself. When he 1st start the rodeo he wasn't to easy on all the broncos he rode and he'd take all the aggression and rage out on the Poor helpless bronco by riding for long periods of time till he tried the thing out so much. But also the Author didn't really make a likeable character no one you could really relate to unless you're a Native American child who lived in mountains most of his life and both of your parents are dead and you raised your self, well if you fit this description this is the book for you, but if not I still suggest you at least give it a try, because I found it to be a pretty good book, and I don't even like to read that much

Summary: Don't waste your time...
Review: I had to read this book in 1 week for some stupid reading project that we were doing in English class. I'm tellin you, this is the WORST BOOK ever written, in my opinon. The characters [stink], theres no climax, most of the grammar doesn't make sense whatsoever. Unless you're going to be hanged, DON'T WASTE YOUR LIFE AWAY ON THIS BOOK! EVERY MINUTE IS PRECIOUS!

Summary: When the Plotlines Die
Review: Well for all you people out there that enjoy books about nature and young boys trying to find themself in a world unknown to them, try My Side of the Mountain. For all you people that enjoy books about nature and young boys trying to find themself in a world unknown to them, but in a mediocre fashion, try When the Legends Die. The story is pretty much a reverse of My Side of the Mountain, only instead of living in the wilderness, the protagonist, Tom "shallow character" Black Bull, is living in a world of "rodeo'in". The plotline is weak at best, and often involves conflicts that make the soap opera "Passions" look like Charles Dickens. Also many of the characters are just bland rip offs of the last person to harrass Tom. I would pass on this book if you are looking for a nature story. If you want that stick with the classics. If your forced into reading this How Boredland "classic" then best of luck to you. Try not to fall asleep too quickly, you still have to pass english.

Summary: Open Your Mind Intellectually and Imaginatively, Then Enjoy.
Review: When the Legends Die is an incredible story that gives the reader a feeling of what it is like being a Native American. Thomas Black Bull, the main character, goes through many experiences that portray the anguishes of being a Native American and living alone, moving from place to place. Throughout his life, Thomas Black Bull learns the necessities of life; self-survival, familial loss, and many other obstacles one experiences. Upon losing his mother and father, Thomas Black Bull leads a life of fear and hatred of the white man who forced his family into the wilderness. After vowing to never correlate with the white man, Thomas Black Bull dis-associates himself with mankind for most of his life. The description the story gives of its events is very vivid, giving the reader a sentiment of the anguish that Thomas Black Bull endures throughout his incredible journey from child-hood to adult-hood. Overall, When the Legends Die is very interesting; I recommend it to anyone who wants to experience a sense of history written in a seemingly first-hand fashion.

Summary: When The Legends Live
Review: When The Legends Die is a TERRIBLE, AWFUL, BOOK .... If you like reading about chants and beans and men sitting naked on rocks, this is the book for you. I HATE THIS BOOK. My WHOLE CLASS at OGHS had to read this, and they'd all agree that it's an awful book. I don't even think our teacher, ... liked it... It's useless ....

Summary: Can you say "Stupid"
Review: This was a lame novel. It's an extremely true story about how the white man took over and surpressed Native American culture, but this storie could've taken a much higher route. There are several sections of betrayl and about 15 pages on chilli beans! Even reading the cliff's notes were boring. Please spare yourself, or the person you are considering bying this for and DONT MAKE THEM READ THIS!
