Rating: Summary: Excellent adventure Review: As anyone who sees my screen name can see, I loved this book. The way Dumas describes his characters' personalities really lets one feel as though one knows them. Each chapter has its own twists and turns, and the ending is really satisfying, especially once one has thought about it for a time. One cannot help but cheer for the musketeers and boo for the antagonists, at least in their heads, as the story unfolds. The four sequels continue the saga of our four friends, and are also commendable.
Rating: Summary: Adventure story, #1! Review: This is the best book I have ever read! It is a wonderful adventure that has humor, romance, drama, tradgedy and mystery. All in all, it takes your breath away. Dumas' portrayal of these four loyal and oh so likable companions is so real that you feel that they are your personal friends by the time you are finished with this book. You are far from wasting your time if you pick up The Three Musketeers. This classic story grabs onto your heart and your memory and doesn 't let go for a long time.
Rating: Summary: Unforgettable and a classic! Review: I really liked this book a lot. I would recommend it to anyone who has the time and attention span to read it. The book is long enough so by the end you feel as if you know each character as a friend. And in the end, you arent left hanging. The Three Musketeers is really something you can get into and never be able to put it down. A truly good and unforgettable book in many ways. It's about four ex-musketeers who try to stop a huge conspiracy involving high ranking people. My favorite character in the book would have to be D'artagnan. He's a rebel who proves himself and I just like him. The story takes place in the 1600's, when swords and guns were both used. The author did a marvelous job on this book.
Rating: Summary: Got to love it! Review: I love this book. IT has a mixture of love, halarity, and intrigue. If you havn't read it you don't know what your missing! I can't wait to read the second one!
Rating: Summary: adventurous, romatic, political, suspense Review: I read this novel in French and in English. I think it's best if you could read in the original writing. This is a novel that have historical basis, yet it's a fiction with realistic characters that really bring out true human nature. It's full of adventure, humor, suspense, and most of all romantic. Dumas incorporated all his life experience into his novels.
Rating: Summary: Lots of fighting, courage, and intrigue Review: After encountering this story first through television and then in films, it was a pleasure to read the original novel, which is full of bold and venturesome drama. The characters are vivid (sometimes foolish, ofttimes arrogant, but never dull) and the tales fast paced. There is even a surprising twist in the turn of events near the end. Dumas wrote a good book that is lots of fun to read.
Rating: Summary: No wonder it's a classic! Review: There is a reason that this book is called a classic. It's GREAT! I found myself staying up to 1:00am reading. There is adventure, romance, swords, horses, great costumes. Do yourself a favor and get caught-up in the world of "The Three Musketeers."
Rating: Summary: WONDERFUL!!! Review: In preparation for the movie of The man Behind the Iron Mask--I discovered that the story was the ending of a trilogy. I raced to get the beginning of the book before reading the latter and to my great surprise I absolutely love this book. I feel as if I had cheated myself for too long by ignoring the classics. But now I found myself buying and reading all the old stuff and I'm in love. Anyone who hasn't read this fabulous book is cheating themselves.
Rating: Summary: An overpriced, unremarkable edition of this fine work Review: One would think, based on the price of this "limited edition" publication, that this would be an elegant and well produced hard-cover edition. What I discovered on delivery is that this is a truly plain-jane publication: no foreword, no introduction, no mention of who translated this edition, no dust cover and so on and so on. Save your money, and don't order this edition. This is a great story, and it deserves a better treatment.
Rating: Summary: Romance, Swordplay, Good vs. Evil- What more could you want? Review: The is probably the best book I have ever read. Alexandre Dumas is a superb writer who writes something for everyone. This is non-stop action adventure (no wonder there are so many movies of this book). The political intrigue, the romance, the swordplay all combine into a story which one can never tire of reading. You get caught up in the tragic life of Athos, the ingenius of Porthos, the devotedness of Aramis, the playful ignorance of D'Artagnan, and ,of course, the evil of MiLady and the treachery of the Cardinal. This is one book everyone should have on the bookshelf to read to the kids.
