Rating: Summary: One of the Best, a sure re-read! Review: This book (including its sequels) is one of the best. You can re-read it one hundred times and come back to re-read it once again. The first time I read it I was twelve years old, and when I finish it I had to re-read to my little sister, because I wanted her to enjoy it. Now I think I have read it almost twenty times, and I enjoy it just the same. If you don't like it, maybe you need to learn french and read it once again!
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: This is a Grosset and Dunlap book and it is very well made....children can handle this book with out worry that it will fall apart...the story is excellent for young minds showing how it was in the days of old....has a lot of accurate historical information.
Rating: Summary: This book is concerned with true friendship and loyalty. Review: In a world where we so often question the definition of morally correct actions and where we never have the courage and confidence to do what needs to be done, this book seems to light-heartedly teach us the true value of courage and friendship, as well as how these qualities endure in the face of danger. What I at first found disturbing is the obvious lack of appreciation of human life, but at the time when human life was so expendable and short-lasting, it is made to seem almost unimportant. It seems that one of the lessons of this book is not to appreciate human life, but to know how to live it well, however short it may very well be. Does the good triumphs over evil? This is the basic question of any literary work, and I suppose that Alexander Dumas answered this question with the proof that the good lasts in people's hearts and that is its true victory. There is a strange scene toward the end of the book, when the four heroes spend their time deciding their next move while eating their breakfast alone, while being attacked by an army... They do not perish, certainly unrealistic but exemplary of the kind of non-chalant frivolousness characteristic to these characters. Indeed, it seems that death is not the thing we should fear, but instead not living to our full potential. This is the ideal that is perhaps missing in the modern society: the knowledge that there is something greater then our own lives, the value of true frienship, loyalty, and courage, qualities that used to unite men in the worst circumstances. But, the main thing, is not to forget to enjoy life!
Rating: Summary: The Original Swashbuckling Adventure Review: This is the most excitement I have had yet! It is impossible not to get involved in the lives and adventures of the four friends. Dumas was the original writer of outrageos adventure. The Princess Bride owes all of its humor and wit to this timeless adventure! I definately could not put this book down. How does it end? I could tell you, but then I would have to kill you!
Rating: Summary: Read it...You won't be sorry! Review: No other book has been able to draw me into the characters quite like this. It's about a friendship between three brave (and famous) Musketeers and a young, cocky Gascon who wishes to join them. Lady de Winter is best villianess who has ever been created, at one moment as sweet as honey, and the next as dangerous as a hungry tiger. We have the quiet Athos, who treats d'Artagnan as a son or brother, the giant Porthos, gentle Aramis (who is only a Musketeer temporarily), and d'Artagnan, who risks it all for the woman he loves, Madame Bonacieux, only to lose her to the evil Lady de Winter. Both adventurous and humorous, this is one of the greatest literary triumphs this world will ever see.
Rating: Summary: As fabulous as Dumas' other books Review: Humorous, witty and filled with fun adventure, Dumas did not fail to entertain the world even a century after his death. Read it, love it and do follow up with the remainder of books in the series.
Rating: Summary: The most entertaining romantic comedy a pittance can buy Review: Oh, please, please, please read this book and laugh with the rest of us. You could increase the number of stars to 25 without deviating too much from maximum ratings. A marine sergeant gave the only bad review I saw here, yet still gave this book 4/5. His opinion was understandable and reasonable, hence my qualification of "romantic" in my summary above. Are you a marine sergeant? Only read non-fiction? Suspension of disbelief required. And, by the way, everyone is telling you the book is better than the movie because they're worried you might miss this great opportunity to entertain yourself -- even if you already have the plot in long-term memory! The dialogue and action are not-to-be-missed.
Rating: Summary: 4 Stars... Review: It had a great plot and great characters (especially Milady), but it was difficult to understand because of the many French words used. If your not fluet in French keep a French/English dictionary on hand.
Rating: Summary: Magnificant Story of Bravery and Gallantry! Review: I found The Three Musketeers to be perhaps the greatest novel I've ever read! Porthos, Athos, Aramis, and d'Artagnan are truly my favorite literary charactors of all time. I especially like the chapters where the Musketeers are chasing Lady De Winter all over England and France. If you've ever wanted to read this book, I'd suggest that you do, you'll never be able to put it down!
Rating: Summary: The Timeles Classic Review: The Three Musketeers is one of the most outstanding action/andventure novels ever written. It's plot is thick, involving, and always keeps you guessing as to what will happen next.
