Rating: Summary: Lisa is a girl who makes a city out of a High School. Review: I give this book 5 huge stars because the book was the most interesting I've ever read. O.T.Nelson did a great job at the end of the book by leaving you hanging. I just think that she should have made a sequal to it. Lisa was very brave when she stood up to Tom Logan in the tower. In my opinion I think Tom Logan was the best character because he outsmarted Lisa and took over Glenbard. Charlie was a cool character to because he made all the battle plans for Glenbard. I thought Craig was a real loser because all he wanted to do was make a farm. Over all this was a very imaginitive fiction book. Great for 6th graders all the way to adults.
Rating: Summary: I loved it. It was great. Review: If a disease took out all the adults in the world, this is what would happen. I don't want to bore you with lots of details and sentences that don't go anywhere so I'll keep it short and simple. Great book, read it. Oh, and thank you person that gave away the end for me...I hate suspence (heavy sarcasm intended)
Rating: Summary: The Best books are hard to find, Get it while you can! Review: This book is about a plauge that sweeps over Earth all humans over twelve are killed. Poverty and sickness sweep over the remianing population, gangs of children rob and hurt the other children. One girl and her brother decide to band together and form a stronghold or city for children to be safe. The City goes through good times and bad times as it city grows. Then some thing teribale happens...
Rating: Summary: A thought-provoking story about what defines civilization Review: This is a fantastic book for middle level readers (grades five through eight). It is first of all refreshing to see a strong female heroine. Lisa is clever, ethical, hard-working, but not perfect! This last quality makes her all the more relatable. I really liked the thoughts it conjured up for me about what goes into making a civilization. Lisa and the other children had to start over from scratch. (almost like they were in the dark ages, she comments.) The notion of how to survive by meeting physical needs is addressed first, but then the idea of a government, defense, and a community is probed as well. My one criticism is that he spent too much time describing the defense plans, with some unnecessary descriptions of fighting. I think he meant to capture the attention of his male readers by doing this, but in my opinion it was overboard.
Rating: Summary: This books like awesome. Review: I'm 12 and I justread the first book about um 1 week ago and it was really cool. The author guy said he was gonna make sequels so I came here to see if he made them yet. It's been 23 years already so I thought something had to be here and um I can't wait to read the other 2 soon.Friday I'm buying them hopefully.I started the first one again today. That book was cool.My names Aislinn if thats important or anything.Um I once sneezed in this book.I'm not a book loser either.
Rating: Summary: A classic! Review: I read this book 15 years ago when I was in junior high and when I saw it at the bookstore a little while ago, had to pick it up. Along the same lines as "Lord of the Flies", it's a timeless classic of courage and survival. A great read for anyone.
Rating: Summary: A great story. You'll never expect what happens next. Review: This is one of the coolest books I've read. I have seen books with similar themes, but usually not about kids. It was all great, but I thought otherwise about the ending. I guess OT Nelson liked to make people "dangle" at the end, without really knowing what to happen next. Never before have I thought about thinking in a different way than animals, or living depending on fear. Read this book and you'll have a completely different view of life.
Rating: Summary: A book to keep you turning the pages Review: When I first got the book as a gift, it looked like one of those pointless little kid stories. Later however, as soon as I got about ten pages into it, I couldn't put it down. It is a very interesting book that I suggest you read if you like science-fiction, and even if you don't--I usually prefer horror novels like Stephen King. So, if you get a chance, I really recommend you read this book.
Rating: Summary: Captivating story of self-reliance and courage......READ IT! Review: I first read this book when I was 10 (17 or so years ago) and it was immediately my favorite. I even enjoy rereading it now from time to time. It encourages self-reliance, courage, and creative thinking...the reader is continually asking, "What would I do if I were in the same situation?" The book thrusts the reader into a world without the security of adults, where children are forced to find their own way. As a child, it was always a fantasy of mine that all adults would fade away and take their annoying authority with them, but The Girl Who Owned A City presents a very realistic view of such a world...with its hardships and cruelties, yet also with its opportunities and challenges. The plot captivates while it teaches responsibility, compassion and the importance of intelligence and creativity. I highly recommend it to anyone from 8 or so years old on up. It's still on my bookshelf, and I still like to take a few hours to reread it, pretend I'm Lisa in a world gone haywire, and wonder, "just what would I do?"
Rating: Summary: The Girl Who Owned the City was a very suspensful book Review: This book was a wonderful book and I read it in one day. I picked it for a school project and it was just magnificient. I loved the part where Lisa got shot and Jill took the bullot out and stitched her up. I believe what Tom Logan did at the end, just giving Glenbard right to Lisa was a very brave thing to do. I was wondering, did Lisa and Glenbard ever have to fight the king of Chicago and his 2,000 men army? If she did, did she win or did she get difeated? This book is wonderful and I hope other people read it. I rate this an infinity star.
