Rating: Summary: The Girl who owned a city- a great example of leadership! Review: This book was very good. But like all other books, it had it's faults. I think that there was too much violence in the story! I think Nelson did this because since the star of the book is a girl, by creating so much violence it would keep boys's attention. In my class it did for the boys, but the girls didn't like it as much( including myself). I think that the girl who owned a city was well written, but at the end the author just left you hanging! It didn't explain anything about what happened to the city. I give this book four stars because of the continous acts of violene and the unfinished ending. Overall I liked the book very much!
Rating: Summary: I think this is a very good book. Review: I think that this was a very good book. I just finished reading it and making a maped module of the scene. This book is about a girl who makes the difference in a life-thretening situation. All the adults were killed by a virus, and now, the kids of the age 12 and under must learn to survive. Lisa (the main character) thinks of many great ideas, and it is a wonderful story. I reccomend this book to anyone who likes to read fiction stories.
Rating: Summary: Children can make a differance Review: I just wanted everyone to know why i wrote this book. I want children to realize that they are important and that they have the ability to think and make a differance
Rating: Summary: A stick with you story with a good message Review: A must read for every kid in the 9-15 age group. I'm 29 and read this over 15 years ago, but the story still sticks with me. (I may have even learned from it.) The book leaves you thinking "What would I do?" It's a real imagination perker, but at the same time it teaches values and leadership. Though published over 20 years ago, it's timeless and may seem even more real as we approach 2000.
Rating: Summary: Is there a series to this book? Review: My niece left this book at my house after a visit. I picked it up and didn't put it down til I was done! Not just a book for younger people as I am almost 50. It was also interesting because I live in the Chicago area and knew alot of the places talked about. That highschool really exists! The possibilites are endless of more books like this! Very well written!!!
Rating: Summary: What a great thriller! I couldn't put it down! Review: I found this book very suspenseful, and kept wondering if Lisa would keep "her" city, or share it with others. I was very concerned with Lisa being portrayed as a Christ figure. Anybody else read this into it? Therefore, I'm somewhat concerned about this book being used in public school. Am I reading too much into it?
Rating: Summary: This book was the best book I have ever read. Review: This is definatly the best book I have read, ever. There are some boring parts when Lisa makes up storys, but the rest is packed with action. However; a warning this book leaves you in a amazing clifhanger. 90% of this book is reading that you will read a page in 3 seconts.
Rating: Summary: Thumbs Up Review: I think the book gives chills down your spine and danger lurks around the corner. You have to read it. It starts with a plauge where all people over 12 die and you struggle for survival.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful story of survival Review: This is a great book about a group of children, and a girl named Lisa who leads them to survival. In this book, all of the people over 12 years old die from a plague. Lisa forms a militia with the children on her street. Soon, they have to move to Glenbard High School for protection from gangs. Lisa and her militia struggle to survive. This book is very exciting and suspenseful. I think that everyone should read this book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book read it numerous times Review: I highly recommend this book - I read it in junior high school and then in high school and tried again in college but couln't find it until just now. The story is unique and it gives kids a look at how it would be if all of the adults just one day disappeared without all of that complicated, annoying sci-fi stuff that can ruin a good plot.
