Summary: Guts in my opinion
Review: I thought Guts was okay but there were some slow and boring parts of the book most of the time. I liked it when the moose attack happened and when he attracted almost all of the mosquitos in the country.

Summary: Childhood on the Hunt and life in the Woods
Review: In the autobiography Guts by Gary Paulsen, he explains what life life was like for him growing up in the wild. He explains some of the things that he had done when he was hunting for small game in the woods or something that happened when he he was in the Iditarod in Alaska or when he was being pummled by a moose in the middle of a river heading down stream to set the fall traps. This book is like a autobiograph of ten different people and their childhoods all packed into one person. He has seen things that only some people could think of, and then portrays them in a fairy tale manner. The book does not drag on like some, it is a very fun and exciting book to read and a non stop cliff hanger that will keep you reading until the book is done and then wishing that there was more to read. I suggest this book to anybody of any age.

Summary: Oh Gary, Say It Ain't So
Review: No doubt about it: Gary Paulsen knows how to live and how to write. This prolific author, a specialist in Young Adult literature, has produced one engaging book after another, now over 40 in all. For fans of Paulsen's Hatchet and other wilderness adventures, this book tells why the stories are all so credible: they are based on Paulsen's real-life experiences.

What I find a bit off-putting about this volume is the focus on hunting and death. The details of Paulsen's assault on nature's creatures may be disturbingly gruesome and graphic to his younger readers. This hardly seems necessary, and especially so since not all of the anecdotes were incorporated into Paulsen's adventure survival stories. It also seems more than a bit hypocritical of Paulsen to spend so much ink on so much violence when in his 1990 book Woodsong, he proclaims that he has sworn off hunting, no longer finding joy in inflicting death on the wild. So why, then, the "Look what I did!" quality to this slender volume? More and more there is a segment of media markets given over to grossing out the audience. No question the stuff sells: TV shows, movies, CDs, computer games, and books make gazillions on the grisly. Is this a quality to peddle to youngsters under the guise of the true-to-life adventures of a truly talented writer? Hardly. Gary, you have better stories to tell.

Summary: must read
Review: One of the books I read that I really liked was Guts. I like the book because I am an ooutdoor person, and that's what the book is about, outdoor things. The whole book is about the author, Gary Paulson, and his outdoor sled dog team and the adventures he took with the dogs. In one part of the book the dogs run away and he has to call a chopper in to get out of it. Then the other part of the book is about how he and his buddies go fishing and lots of things go wrong on the trip. When the things do go wrong, they have to call for help in order to survive. The whole book I think is five stars!

Summary: Guts
Review: Reviewer: The book about Gary Paulsen 's life and the true topries behind Hatchet. What ever had happened in Gary Paulsen's life that was full of interesting and dangerous things all went into one book called "Hatchet". Gary Paulsen has been through some tough times throughout his life, such as being in two plane crashes and being attacked by moose. He got coaught in a wind storm in the middle of winter on a lake in Alaska. He talks about his worse moose attacks as being in canoe and paddling down a river. What happened was a moose came up from the water, stepped on the canoe and flipped him right over. Another exciting attack to read about is when he was dog-sledding down a trail and a moose nearly killed him. Gary Paulsen in his book "Guts" tells ordinary people like us how to make food from grub that you can fin in the wilderness. He also talks about his hunting days and how he lives for hunting. He says "hunting is one of the biggest thrills in my life", That's all he ever used to do. Gary Paulsen also talked about how he was very hunrgy at points in his life where he would shoot red squirrels, rabbits, and deer. He would eat thier brains, hearts, and everything else except for the intestines. He would sometimes find dead grouse, rabbits, and deer lying against a tree frozen to death. He also found a man's body that had frozen to death. He said " it looked like he was cross country skiing, broke his leg and couldn't do anything or get help. The man ended up freezing to death. In the last chapter of the book, he talked about "the joys of cooking". Such as how to cook fish or meat stew, plank food, spit cooking, pit cooking, and hot water. All these can be useful to you if you ever find yourself out in the wilderness trying to survive by yourself.

What makes this so interesting and fun to read is how well its written. This book is great because it's very detailed. You can't put it down as you always want to know what's going to happen next. It also talks about you not so everyday kind of person. Gary Paulsen is very interesting, smart, and a talented person who tells a fantastic story about his life's adventures. There are exciting adventures in this book that people will never have the opportunity to experience. It's very interesting to hear about his life.

The one thing that doesn't really work about this book is IT'S NOT LONG ENOUGH! I would be happier if it was longer because it was such a good book to read as well as fun to read.

The overall opinion is that this is a great novel that should be recommened to everyone who loves the outdoors or anyone who likes to hear or read about an interesting life. The reason this book is as good is because of how it keeps you wondering what's going to happen next or what was the out come of what had happened to him.

Summary: A great gory book
Review: The book Guts is a very gory book, that's why they call it guts. For example, one scene Gary Paulsen is dog sledding then there is a tree branch sticking out and he hits it and is unconscious. When he wakes up there is a moose stomping on him. He gets two broken ribs and some knocked out teeth.

I like this book because it is gory and interesting.
