Summary: Crasher Report
Review: A Review by Cody

The book I read was Crash by Jerry Spinelli. It is about a kid named John Coogan. He is called Crash by all his friends. The book is about his relationship with a kid named Penn Webb. At first he made fun of Penn. He met a kid named Mike Deluca and they both made fun of him. Crash found out that Penn was a vegetarian and was poor. Eventually Crash felt bad for Penn. They both started to play sports. They both ended up on the track team. In the end Crash let Penn win a big race and they were friends.

The book turned out to be very predictable and sometimes boring. The plot was set very dry. It seems that the main character was always at conflict and the author never really explained why. That was about the only mystery in the story. It also had small plotlines that never had an ending. Like why there were lawnmower parts missing. They never continued Abby's wildlife preserve fiasco. I didn't understand what happened with Mike either. It was very boring when Crash was explaining what he thought all the time. He always was at conflict like I said earlier. I did however like his thoughts on sports. He always explained it very well and it was like I was there.

I would recommend this book to younger readers. It is not great but at times amusing. It is easy reading but hard to find interesting.

Summary: My Favorite Book
Review: A boy they call Crash was six and he thought his new neighbor, Penn, was weird because he only had one toy, lived in a house that was once a garage, always wore dorky buttons that said "Flickertale" or "Peace" on them, and was a Quaker and vegetarian. When a new neighbor shows up in the summer of sixth grade named Mike, he immediately becomes Crash's best friend. In school they play jokes on Penn and tease him. Crash falls in love with a girl named Jane. She doesn't like him because he's so mean to Penn, who was on her CHEERLEADING team! A sad thing happened to his grandfather. You should read it to find out the ending. This is my favorite book. It is very funny and it took me only three days to read it, I never wanted to put it down!

Summary: crash by Jerry Spanelli
Review: Meet John Coogan, more commonly known as "Crash". Crash got his name the Christmas Day he received his first football helmet, and used it to knock his cousin Bridget flat on her face in the snow. Crash is a "jock" and a bully. He has huge shoulders and a small brain to match.

Crash and his best friend, Mike DeLuca, spend most of their time torturing another boy named Penn Webb. He is a scrawny, overly polite, seventh grader who lives in a garage that was converted into a house. Penn and his family are Quakers and vegetarians. They do not believe in fighting and violence, and they live a lifestyle that promotes peace. As a result, when Crash and Mike pick on Penn, he never fights back!

On the first day of seventh grade, Crash meets a new girl in school named Jane Forbes, and he falls for her hard. Jane is an ecology minded activist who becomes friends with Crash's sister and Penn. Jane and Penn go out for cheerleading and become good friends, which drives Crash crazy! Crash and Mike begin to torment Penn every day making fun of his second hand clothes, his older parents, and his nerdy appearance.

Crash's grandfather, Scooter suffers a stroke and his dad looses his job. Crash's world starts to change and he has to give up a lot of things that were really important to him, like the coolest clothes, the most expensive sneakers, and other material things. Crash has always been first in everything he does and suddenly he is no longer in charge. His relationship with Mike starts to change also. Crash begins to feel it is no longer as much fun picking on Penn and playing pranks. Sometimes Crash thinks Mike goes to far. Crash begins to realize that there are more important things in life than wearing cool clothes and playing football. In the end, Crash, Penn and Jane become good friends.

One of my favorite parts of this book is when Crash decides to make a move on Jane during a school dance. Crash asks Jane to dance and she says, "no." No one ever turns Crash down. He is a big football star. Crash becomes angry and drags Jane out to the dance floor where she slaps him in the face. This was super humiliating!

If you are in middle school or if you have ever been picked on by the school jock, this book is for you! You will enjoy seeing the relationships of seventh graders change and develop into friendships that could last a lifetime.

Summary: Crash; Sports book with Personality
Review: "Crash" is the story of John Coogan (a young football star) going through his teen years. Ever since John was little he had been called Crash because he loved football and everything about it. Crash grew up in Pennsylvania with everything he wanted. Many changes occur throughout the book and Crash finds himself a brand new person. Crash and his best friend, Mike Deluca, torture another boy their age, named Penn Webb. Penn is the perfect victim, he's scrawny, too polite, and he refuses to do anything back to you! Jane Forbes moves to town and Crash falls for her right away. Jane and Penn become really good friends and while Crash keeps making fun of Penn, Jane gets annoyed by Crash and won't talk to him. A family tragedy occurs and Crash sees that his life has totally changed around. He gets things from "second hand" stores and he has to give up a lot of things that are important to him. Crash's mother stays at home and he hardly ever sees his father. Crash begins to feel different about his friends and Penn. He makes a very hard decision while in a run-off during track season. Soon after, things begin to change between Crash, Penn, and Jane. "Crash" is a great book and I would recommend it to anyone that loves sports and books with teen struggle. Crash shows heart, consideration, determination, and loyalty in every way possible. This book is amazing!!!

Summary: Crash is a good book!!!
Review: This book is about Crash. His real name is John Patrick Coogan. He loves to play football and he is good at it. Crash is his nickname and he is outspoken and he thinks he is cool. Crash thinks that he is all that and he is popular. A kid named Penn Webb moves to Pennsylvania during first grade from North Dakota. Penn is a Quaker, a dork, a vegetarian and is nice to everyone. Penn is also a cheerleader and does not watch TV. A new kid named Mike ganged up on Penn and they put mustard in his shoes. The big year was 7th grade when Scooter, Crash's grandfather, comes to live with Crash. He likes to spend time with Scooter. Something happens during the story and Scooter ends up in the hospital. This is the turning point of his life and his personality changes. You will never believe who become friends.

I liked this book a lot. I think you should read it because it was funny and the language is great. You should find someone who already read this book and tell them if you like it or not. I think the author did a very good job at making this story interesting. I enjoyed reading the book every day and so will you!

Summary: Funny Fiction
Review: Crash is an exellent, funny, and cool book for any age. It is about a loser who moved into town in first grade. His name is Penn Webb. He has been made fun of ever since, and he did not really know it. Crash Coogan (a football player at his school) and his best friend Mike make fun of him and made his life miserable. Webb, Crash's dweeby, vegetable eating neighbor who lives in a garage is their favorite target for years. Although Webb is not just a big nerd, at school he is on the cheerleading team!
I think anyone who reads this book will have fun reading it. I gave this book five stars because of its details, creativity, and humor. Jerry Spinelli is a great author. He also has written another funny book called Loser.
