Rating: Summary: Silent to the Bone Review: This is an extremely touching book that illustrates the importance of true friendship. It is interesting to notice how people try to communicate when deprived of speech. Because of close interactions between the characters, you feel a part of the story and find yourself guessing " what actually did happen?". I recommend this wonderful book, especially to people who enjoy mysteries. It is an exciting novel that gives a great variety to everyday reading.
Rating: Summary: Silent or not? Review: The publication Silent to the Bone was a great book. I do not think it was silent though, it sang beautifully in my ears. The style just touched me. You can never put it down!! Konigsburg was wonderful!! I recomend this book to sixth graders and up, any younger and the reader would not understand the plot.
Rating: Summary: Silent to the Bone- Gripping and Thought-Provoking Review: E.L. Konigsburg's Silent to the Bone is an excellent choice for the young, but mature reader. The story of Branwell's silence following an incident in his home keeps the reader in suspense. Branwell's friend is the only person who may be able to help him break his silence. He attempts this by understanding that this silence is a sure way of communication. And sees it as so. The characters are very well developed and the story is all together unpredictable, which forces the reader not to put it down. Though I hoped that this book would be an appropriate read-aloud for sixth graders, I found that it was not, due to some sexual content. But, I do recommend it for mature kids ages 12 and up.
Rating: Summary: GREAT! Review: I think this book is great! It has suspense and very detailed. I would recomend it to ANYONE! I promise you, U wouldn't wanna put it down after reading the first chapter unless you have some problem.
Rating: Summary: Well worth reading. Review: While it was clear from the beginning that Branwell did not hurt the baby and that Vivian had been screwing with him, I wanted to find out exactly what and why. The book was like a puzzle, each chapter being a piece you had to fit together. Wonderfully suspenseful, perfect for curling up in a chair with on a chilly foggy day. Connor was the best friend a person could ask for. Both he and Branwell seemed very intelligent. Connor's sister Margaret was my favorite character. Vivian was a snake. The only thing I wished I could change about the book would be making her go to trial for hurting Nikki instead of just losing her job.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: As usual, Konigsburg has turned out a well-written book centered around a complicated plot. However, as a middle school teacher, I cannot in good conscience recommend the book to the students in my school because of the content. The plot centers around the sexual ensnarement of an adolescent boy by an older female. While the sexual activities of the female were not described in great detail, they were present. As an adult, I realize that these things do happen in our society. I found the psychological insights interesting, but as a teacher, I do not feel the parents in my school would appreciate me recommending this book for middle school children. I do not support censorship, but I was blindsided by the content of the book which many in my small southern community would find offensive.
Rating: Summary: You will love this Book Review: I am not a big fan of reading but I could not keep my eyes off this book! You will definatly love this book! It is a great book for anyone that likes mysterys. From the the begining till the end you will be guessing.
Rating: Summary: Simply Marvelous Review: Silent to the Bone is an amazing children's book. Only E.L. Konigsburg could have written it because almost no other author has such an understanding of young people. No other author could have given the reader such insight to the character's lives. Silent to the Bone is mostly about these insights. The plot follows Connor and Branwell, two thirteen-year-olds. Branwell has been accused of shaking and dropping the baby, but has become mute after whatever it was that happenned. Connor doesn't think that Branwell committed the crime; so he takes it upon himself to get Branwell to speak. To do this, though, means Connor (with his sister's help) must begin to peal back the layers of Branwell's life. He must learn exactly why Branwell became silent. He must learn about the tension and stress in the family's like (all the while, learning about his own family). Connor must try to piece together what happened at Branwell's home the months preceeding the accident as well as the day of the accident. The end result is almost a detective novel, but one with psychological insights. Silent to the Bone is a novel which will make a person think. Some of the themes may be too mature for younger readers, but young adults and older readers will gain from this novel and will certainly be fascinated and entertained by it.*Also, I would like to warn anyone who's not read the book to not read the "eleven-year-old from New York"'s (April 10, 2001) review. It gives away all of the ending to this very suspenceful story.
Rating: Summary: E. L. Konigsburg's familiar style becomes lost sometimes :( Review: I only liked about half of E. L. Konigsburg's books because some, like "The Second Ms. Giaconda," were boring, some like "The Dragon in the Ghetto Caper" were confusing and ridiculous, and some like "The View from Saturday" and "The Mixed-Up Files" were great. This one was okay about halfway through, but the characters were disturbing and the plot was hard to follow. I might also warn young Konigsburg fans that this book has some overtones that might be considered inappropriate unless the reader is indeed a very terrible reader and can't infer anything from what is suggested. Another great book by E. L. Konigsburg that I would recommend is "T-Backs, T-Shirts, COAT and Suit."
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Read! Review: Silent to The Bone is just a great novel. Already, 13 children in my class have read it and have said the same thing. This novel brings suspence, with a dab of mystery.E.L Konigsburg writes the setting so well, you have your favorite places from the begining. Usualy, by the end of a mystery novel, you know what the end is going to be. However, this book has a surprise ending, and you can't predict what is going to happen. The characters are so realistic, they have the same thoughts a me, so I can really relate to the book. The author also describes and explains the characters feelings so well, I am inside the book, waiting for the next move. This book is a real page turner, and Conner, the main character has great ideas as how to fill in the puzzle of "Silent To The Bone".
