Summary: Not appropriate for the age it was intended
Review: This book contained questionable material that may be okay for older audiences. It should not be marketed to 10-12 year olds.

Summary: We could use some SPOILER ALERTS around here!
Review: Thanks a lot to all of you who wrote reviews here and ruined the ending for those of us that never got to read the book. If you can't write a review without giving away important PLOT DETAILS, maybe you shouldn't write one at all.

Summary: One Of The Best
Review: I think that the book was a good book. I thought that it was sad that when Branwell got accused of hurting his baby half sister, when we finally find out that he didnt really do it, that he found her that way. And when Vivian tried blaming it all on Branwell, when she really done it.
When Branwell went to call 911, he didnt know what to say. I think that he went into complete shock and words couln't come out of his mouth. He tried but they just would not come out.
Connor is the only one who might be able to break through Branwell's wall of silence. But how can he prove Branwell didn't commit the unspeakable act of which he accused-when Branwell can't speak for himself?
The one way that Branwell would communicate is that Connor would say the alphabet, and when he got to the letter that Branwell wanted he would blink or point. Then Connor would redo the alphabet over and over again until he got the word he wanted spelt.
Vivian tried to lie saying that she wasn't smoking around the baby when she really was.
The End

Summary: NOT THE BEST
Review: I think this book was stupid unless you want to take up time its good for that. thats why i gave 2 stars otherwise it was stupid.
i thought it was stupid because branwell is suspected of hurting his baby half sister so he desides not talk because he is ashamed of being seduced by the baby sitter and she the who hurt his baby half sister so he's juvenile behavioral center, suspected of a horrible crime he did't do and won't tell what relly happened so his best friend connor try's to get something out of him but he won't talk so connor remember the story of the paralyzed frenchman who wrote a whole book with the blink of his left eye they used that for communication.I think thats stupid because branwell is not paralyzed. after a while he desides to talk and the baby sitter loses her job the baby lives.
the end

Summary: Amazing! by Sylvia Gindick
Review: Intense! Suspenseful! Amazing mystery! You will find all of this in E.L. Konigsburg's "Silent to the Bone". The story captivates you immediately, making it impossible to put the book down for an instant. When reading this book, you are taken on an extremely exciting mystery adventure with Connor. He is a young boy whose best friend, Branwell, has been put into a Behavior Center for supposedly hurting his baby sister, Nikki. Silence overcomes Branwell and he will speak to no one. Only Connor believes that he is innocent, and will do anything to prove it. So Connor picks up clues to who may have really hurt Nikki and every day he visits Branwell to try to get him to speak. This wonderful journey takes you through love, despair, and confusion, all so powerful that the memories from this book stay with you forever. "Silent to the Bone" is intense and it makes you think hard about real life and all of the possibilities. For children under 12, you should ask your parents before you read this book. If they say no, then try your hardest to persuade them because "Silent to the Bone" makes a difference in the way you chose to overcome obstacles and the way you come across life.

Summary: An Emotional Mystery
Review: When 13-year-old Branwell is struck dumb, everyone else has to figure out how to break the silence and solve the "mystery." On the tape of the 911 call, Branwell's best friend, Connor can easily hear exactly when Branwell began his silence. When the operator picks up and asks Branwell for the type of emergency, Branwell does not respond. After a whole bunch of silence from Branwell and screams from the au pair, Vivian picks up the phone. She tells th eperater that "he dropped her! He dropped the baby!" "He" is of course Branwell. Now it is up to Connor to figure out whether or not Branwell dropped baby Nikki. But how could he have? Branwell loves Nikki more than anything. Much more than a mystery, this book is a mixture of desperate emotions and a struggle to hear Branwell's silent call for help.

Summary: A truely great book
Review: This is a great book! If you like to read about reality I recommend this book to you. This book is about a boy named Conner who tries to help his friend Branwell out. Branwell gets accused of dropping his baby step-sister and he is sent to a Juvenile Behavioral Center. Branwell is sent to the Behavioral Center because when the incident happened Branwell could not speak. Conner tries to help Branwell "break his wall of silence" because he believes Branwell didn't hurt his little sister. This is a great book full of laughter and tears. It shows how friendship is can be a really strong bond between people.

Summary: Sinfully Silent
Review: I really enjoyed reading "Silent to the Bone," and I think this book is well-worth any one taking their time to read it. I never thought about how the silence of one person can have such a rippling effect on so many people's lives. Branwell Zamborski is a perfect son, grandson, and brother...until one day, his world fell apart because of one mysterious accident, leaving his baby sister, Nikki, hospitalized, promising bad results. Branwell then goes silent, and everyone assumes that he is the one who "hurt"Nikki.. Vivian, the babysitter, is not around when the "accident" happens, and she does not take responsibility for her actions, and also assumes that Branwell is the one who caused Nikki to go into a fatal coma. Branwell must rely on his best friend Connor to uncover what really happened. Connor has discovered a secret way to communicate with Branwell without Branwell speaking, or giving an distinct response.
This story shows how true friendship always prevails., and I think that through all tough times, everyone needs a friend. Someone to stick by them, and to help them wade things out. Branwell & Connors' friendship helps reveal the truth in everyone, and who everyone really is. It reveals the secret things that no one likes to let out. Things that everyone keeps to themselves. That they keep silent, silent to the bone.

Summary: Great book, but best for age 12 and up
Review: I checked this book out of the library for my 10-yr old son when he was home ill. I started reading it aloud to him. It is well written and engages you from the start. HOWEVER, I'm glad that I read ahead. Though not the main focus of the story, there are MATURE themes in this book. You might choose to wait until your child has learned about the birds and bees before letting him or her read this book alone. Otherwise, be prepared to explain what Viagra is and why two older characters were in a bedroom with their clothes off. It might be appropriate to read it together and discuss some of the feelings that the boy experiences.
