Summary: Great book for Creech Fanz!
Review: If you are looking for a book about an adventure across the ocean, then "The Wanderer" is perfect for you! The format of the book is basically Sophie and her cousin's diary about the expedition of *The Wanderer.* Basically, Sophie is the only girl on the ship, accomponied by her cousins, uncles, and fathers. The mission : to sail across the Atlantic to reach Grandpa Bompie.

Many things happen along the way...exploring haunted islands, meeting new people, stopping at shore-lines, and even a few near-death experiences. Will they ever make to Bompie in Europe? I seriesouly thought they were done for at some parts of this book, and that they had no hope....

I recomend reading this book b/c it's not only interesting to children, it's also very interesting for teens. It's always interesting to read diaries of others and go into their world. The book is straight out clean and great for younger audiences and great for any age! I think you'll enjoy it! Have fun! ...

Summary: Amazing! Beatifully written
Review: I started out reading this book already being a huge fan of Sharon Creech's writing. This book lived up to my expectations of Sharon's work. All of my emotions came out while reading The Wanderer. I laughed, cried and everything in between. This book is in my opinion, the best by Sharon Creech.

Review: ...what can I say? If you really enjoyed the the suspense, surprise, and zaniness of Sharon Creech's "Walk Two Moons" or if the humor-filled "Absolutely Normal Chaos", "The Wanderer" will probably disappoint you. "The Wanderer" is the story of Sophie, an adopted thirteen-year-old who loves the magic and mystery of the sea. The chance of a lifetime comes when Sophie begins a journey with her "new" cousins and uncles across the Atlantic to visit "Bompie" (Sophie's "new" grandparent). The book takes the form of two journals, Sophie's and Cody's (one of Sophie's cousins) and is filled with description of sea life and work. I think one of the major flaws in this book is the fact that it doesn't really have a "plot"...yes, I know, fans of this book will probably say that made it more realistic, since real life doesn't have a plot, either! But still, this book had many dull moments and parts filled with "boat language" that doesn't really interest the reader. In short, it failed to draw me in. Another point-although I liked Cody and found his character and his journal interesting, I don't think many 13-or 14-year old boys would write in such a descriptive and insightful way, and so that made his journal a little less enjoyable. The main things that partly redeem this rather "sparse" and "dry" book are the occasional humorous moments and touchingly true sentiments about life and other things. Also, there are some interesting character changes and growths along the way and especially at the end. I can't say I highly recommend this book. If this was a new author, I might say this book showed potential, but since Sharon Creech's other books are better than this one (at least in my opinion), I wonder what's next for this author. I'll be curious to see what her next book is like.

Summary: Exactly why did this get a medal?
Review: Maybe you shouldn't trust my review because I was too bored to read the whole book. I only bought it because I saw it was a book about the ocean. Sophie, the main character, is very unrealistic and quite annoying. Cody, another major character, was pretty realistic and I liked him better. I was disappointed to see there is more of Sophie's diary that Cody's. And like another reviewer said, they're crossing the whole ocean just to visit their grandfather? The author could've done a better job on that. And the way I understand it, this book is mainly about family. I personally consider that to be kind of boring. From what I hear, Creech's other books are better, so read one of them instead.

Review: This is one book you can't put down when you ead it so far. Sophie is going on a trip ith her three uncles and two boy cousins to England to see their grandfather for the first time in years. Through Sophie's eyes, we see the adventure, sadness, family feuds, humor, and friendship. Through Cody's eyes, we see adventure, sadness, family feuds, as well as dark secrets and unknown pasts that everyone, the reader included, is waiting to know the answers to. What's the truth about Sophie? What's the truth about the grandfather? What makes each person act so strange? That's what they'll learn on their journey across the sea on the boat called The Wanderer.

Review: The Wanderer, by Sharon Creech, is a very good book. I'm 11, and it's one of the best books I've read. Sophie, an ocean lover, takes an adventure to England to visit her grandfather, Bompie. They encounter clams, tidal waves, and dolphins. I rate this book a 5 STAR!

Summary: Another gem from Sharon Creech
Review: My children (ages 8,9,12, and 12) and I had read all of Sharon Creech's books out loud together...and loved them all...when we picked up "The Wanderer" a couple of weeks ago. Each time we read one of her books, we think, "The next one can't POSSIBLY be this good!" And each time, she surprises us by surpassing our expectations.

"The Wanderer" proved to be no different. This is a marvelous read for children and adults alike: lyrical, funny, touching, exciting. The main character, Sophie...like the main characters in most of Creech's books...is dealing with tremendous personal loss, but Creech handles this with great delicacy. The writing never becomes melodramatic. Creech not only respects the integrity of her characters, she respects the intelligence of her young readers.

Bravo to Sharon Creech for another beautiful work!

Summary: Full of internal and external adventures!
Review: This is an outstanding story! Although it's obviously aimed at teenagers, people of any age will enjoy Sophie's journey of self-discovery and adventure. The adults play peripheral roles, but important ones, even so. They are even dynamic characters who change, much as Sophie and her cousin Cody change, though in more subtle ways. Teachers--I'm one--will find this book an excellent candidate for classroom use, as the female protagonist will appeal to girls, with Cody's own journal entries drawing in even the reluctant boy readers, too. As a further enticement, the edition I read, from Scholastic, has wonderful artwork by David Diaz at the beginning of each chapter. Find it, read it, share it!
