Summary: Stuck In Neutral Project Review
Review: The thing i like a bout this book is that when it they talk about when his dad is gonna kill him because its very mysterious and all and it makes the story more exciting because like, Do you ever see in daily life when a dad kills his own son? exactly....NO so thats what makes this story more interesting an all.

I am going to talk about this book and all and what it is about. The main character in this book is named Shane Mcdaniel. He cant do anything physical. He has this condition called Cerebral Palsy (C.P). Everyone at his school makes fun of him because he has this disease and he cant do anything about it. He cant move any part of this body at all. His body parts move when it wants to, it moves by it self and when it wants to. He cant control the way he moves his body. One of the main parts of this story is that his own dad is trying to kill him and let him go because he said that he cant see his son go on like this because he thinks that Shawn is always getting hurt when everytime his condition starts to react and his dad cant stand looking at Shawn when it happens. But in Shawn's head, he think it feels good when it starts to happen because he gets out of his mind and all and he gets to explore a daily life of a person that can walk around and everywhere. He's in a wheel chair. At the very end he starts having a seizure and then he ask to himself in his head.
"What will my dad do?"

Summary: Stuck In Neutral
Review: Imagine being exactly who you are right now, having the same looks, the same thoughts, same questions, same comments, same interests, only not being able to share them with any one at all. In fact, everyone around you, your teachers, your mother, your sister, and your brother all think you're as dumb as a doornail. And you want to tell them otherwise, only you can't. Imagine being Stuck In Neutral.
Well, that is exactly how a boy named Shawn McDaniel feels. The book Stuck In Neutral by Terry Trouman shows how Shawn feels since he is suffering from Cerebral Palsy, a disease that prevents him from being able to control all parts of his body. As a result of not being able to do or say what he wants, his family is convinced he has the IQ of a three year-old.
Little do they know that inside Shawn is the average fifteen year-old boy. He knows the alphabet, he knows all of the colors, and he knows how to read. Basically he knows and thinks about what every other boy thinks about, from video games, to music, even to waiting for something to drop so he can see his teacher bend over! He also has serious thoughts. For example he has this strong feeling of guilt because he has a hunch that he is the cause of his parents getting divorced.
In reading Stuck In Neutral I felt a series of different emotions that ranged from sorrow, to pleasure, to suspense. It is one of the most humorous yet touching stories I've ever read. I would recommend it to people between the ages of eleven and fifteen. Or just to anyone who enjoys a good laugh. And I hope that if you read this book you'll enjoy it just as much as I did.

Summary: An inspiring, evocative novel
Review: Stuck in Neutral is a shocking fiction novel about a teenage boy with C.P., and he has no control over his actions. However; the amazing thing about Shawn is that he has learned how to put conclusions together in his mind, since he is not able to speak, from being forced to listen to his family and remembers anything and everything people say. This is good and bad for Shawn. One of the things that stood out in my mind about this book was when Shawn was waiting outside his house in his wheelchair for the schoolbus to pick him up and two older boys start making fun of him. What started out as just a little name-calling turned into trying to kill him with a lit match. Just in time Shawn's older brother comes to the rescue and beats the boys almost to death. Although this book was quite interesting, I would have appreciated a more satisfying ending because I felt like I was left hanging and the author should have wrote another chapter. I would recommend Stuck in Neutral to anyone who is having trouble expecting the unexpected, and I was very moved.

Summary: Great for Readers and Performers
Review: When I had to come up with a completely new prose piece for the National tournament last year, I went straight to the Young Adult Fiction shelves. I had been mulling this book over in my head quite some time, and when I finally got around to doing it, I was indeed greatful.

Terry Trueman gives the reader suspense, emotion, and humor wrapped in a somewhat brief 128 pages. The idea behind the book is brilliant, and I particularly enjoyed the poetic stanzas that became an intro to each individual chapter.

Shawn's story appeals to both sexes, and the imagery we find hidden between the ripples of angst even makes this book suitable for adults. Stuck in Neutral is truely universal.

Happily, I took this book all the way to quater finals of Prose. No further. However, a boy in Dramatic Interpretation got all the way to third place.

Stuck In Neutral is a profound piece of fiction. The voice of Shawn will not easily be forgotten.

Summary: Scary
Review: This book was really cool...it helped us to see what life would be like if we had severe cases of C.P. All through the book from the time we found out he was really intellegent we were praying that by the end of the book someone would know how smart he was..maybe something would change and he would be able to talk to his father. We really enjoyed reading this book and recommended it to all of our friends. We just wish that we could know what happened in the end. Did the father kill Shawn? Is he okay? Did Shawn talk or did anyone walk in and help him before his father could hurt him? It aches at our minds! They need to have a sequel! All in all, this was a pretty great book.

Summary: A powerful story about a profoundly disabled teen
Review: "Stuck in Neutral," by Terry Trueman, is a novel told in the first person by an extraordinary character: Shawn McDaniel, a 14-year old boy who is completely paralyzed. Although he is unable to move or communicate, Shawn possesses both a keen intelligence and the ability to perfectly remember anything he encounters.

Shawn has a troubled connection to his father, a poet who has earned fame by writing about his disabled son. This is a well-written and fascinating novel. In the character of Shawn's father, Trueman effectively explores the relationship between art and life.

This powerful story raises some difficult ethical issues. Shawn is a compelling and skillfully realized character. At one point Shawn refers to Helen Keller and the play "The Miracle Worker." Like that play, this book is a valuable addition to the body of literature that deals with human disability and human dignity.

Summary: Wo...can you say WIERD?!?
Review: This book was very strange. It's wierd how it takes place inside a paralyzed boy's head. I can't understand how Trueman could think up something like this. The ending was AWFUL. It left me hanging. ... It's like being left out in the cold on Christmas. I had a good feeling about the book, but I got thrown out in the end.
