Rating: Summary: REA take a hike. Review: I recently took the AP MEH exam. The class of students that took the class and exam last year recommended this book as the absolute best test preparation. However, our class found that the Princeton Review was far superior. The REA book is far too detailed, the multiple choice exams are an inaccurate representation of the AP Exam and the free-response is a joke. Also, the multiple choice questions found in the "Princeton Review" were actually on the AP Exam itself. The "Princeton Review" actually does know the test. Whereas, the REA just attempts to write one for you.
Rating: Summary: This book is too detailed and has unrealistic sample tests. Review: I took the AP Euro Exam and I bought this book. This book has a 246 page history review. When you are reviewing for the AP this review is long and too detailed. The 6 sample tests are much much much more difficult than the questions that you will find on the AP. The questions are irrelevant and too specific for the AP. This book was not helpful in preparing me for the AP.
Rating: Summary: A detailed resource from a Euro Prof Review: I'm glad so many have positively responded to the publication of this book. Though I feel the best preparation is to do well in your course and review consistently, this resource is the best among a plethora of many misleading books. Feedback from many AP test writers and takers has informed me that in order to write a solid DBQ, this book is a must. Best of luck on the AP.
Rating: Summary: REA A.P. European History Review Book Review: Loved the book while I was reading it, hated it when I got my score back. I tried to read the whole thing in a span of two weeks. I'm suprised my brain didn't freeze over. I concentrated on memorizing details and insignificant things that never showed up on the test and lost the big picture, it seems that this book can do that to you. I'd like to say that it was my fault I got a 3 - if only almost my whole class (who also studied from this book), didn't almost get the same.
Rating: Summary: Terrific Review - If you work at it Review: Over the course of a two week period, I read this review (and the textbook occassionally for some parts that I didn't need). I expect to get a 5. You do have to work at it and, yes, there are some details that are completely unncessary. HOwever, you will be able to sense what these are as time goes on.
Rating: Summary: OK -- But Too Detailed Review: The 250 page review section of this book is very comprehensive, but it is too detailed and not organized well. It is only divided into 6 sections and there is no index. This makes quick reference impossible. The six practice tests are very helpful but are more difficult than the actual exam. It is better than the Barron's book, though, which is not detailed enough and pales in comparison for practicing tests.
Rating: Summary: helped me get into harvard =) Review: The detail in this book was exceptional. It definitely helped me get a 5. Even here at Harvard, it's quite a useful review for my European history class.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful preparation for the AP Review: The painstakingly detailed answers in the sample test section are the most helpful part of this book. That's one of the great things about REA review books. I think that this long and detailed review helped me to my 4.
Rating: Summary: Long! Review: The review is very detailed and at times repetitive. An index would be nice. It has little information on demography and way too much information on topics such as the Ottoman Empire and Italy. The multiple-choice questions are short, specific identification questions; few other types. The DBQs are too short, also. Get this book to study details, use a text or other books to frame the big picture.
Rating: Summary: Great way to get a 5! Review: The review: comprehensive, little repetitive. The tests: awesome! Though you may frequently be haunted by the feeling that you'll never know everything this books requires of you, then by the one that you might not need THIS much preparation, it's worth it in the end. Taking the tests is an invaluable part of good studying, and this is the only book I know of that offers full-length AP-like tests. My 5 owes a lot to the hours I spent over my desk with this book!
