Summary: My All-time Favorte Book
Review: I love "Shadow in the North"! Maybe I'm the only one in my whole little "clique" that still reads 'young adult' books (whatever those are) but I think that "Shadow in the North" breaks out of that label. The story starts out with Sally, "Ruby in the Smoke"'s heroine, who has started her own financial consultancy. When one of her clients looses all of her money in a shipping firm that was crashed on purpose, Sally promises to look into it and recover her client's investment. Then, Jim meets the mysterious magician Mackinnon, a sissy who's scared spitless of a nobleman he barely knows. The story takes all kinds of twists and turns until it comes to a dramatic climax (which, when I first finished the book, I threw it down in disgust at the ending. But once I read it again, and thought about it, I decided that it was fitting.) Now, I've lost count of how many times I've read it. Read this book! And then read the "His Dark Materials" trilogy!

Summary: I fell in love with this book!
Review: I really loved this book! When i read the first book-Ruby in the Smoke- I couldn't put it down. I just finished this book and liked it even better than the first! It was intriging and adventours, I cried! I am now on the third book-Tiger in the Well- and enjoying it very much. One of my favourite books! I highly recomend this!

Summary: Very Good
Review: This book was my first introduction to Philip Pullman and since then I have discovered that he is an extraordinary author. This book tells the tale of Sally Lockhart. Sally's father has just died and through some means, Sally is entrusted with a priceless ruby. With this ruby, Sally will discover what real greed and coruption is and, through the process, will have her life at stake many times throughout the story. This story was an excellent and masterful tale full of suspense and mystery.

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: The thing I find so fasicnating about Phillip Pullman's books are the details. You can't sum up what happens in the book very easily. You have to know all of the details. It's wonderful, I have recommended it to many of my friends, as well as all the other books by Phillip Pullman.

Summary: Wonderful
Review: Pullman has once again stunned me with his writing. I fell in love with Frederick, and actually cried when the accident happened. I am totally awe-struck.

Summary: This is a brilliant Sally Lockhart book
Review: This book is really exciting, it makes you wish that you could live in the era that sally did. It is very well written and impossible to put down. It has a more organised approach than the ruby in the smoke. It is very gripping and is an excellent book. It is very easy to get in to and you can feel for the charectors.

Summary: Sally's wisdom and bravery is put to the test.
Review: Sally surly shows her wit in this book, which is by far the best in the trilogy. Being a young high school reader my self, the book shows how women, even in England, could get through their way in the world. It is also a great place to put the second book, in a place where the reader can really get into it, and just pick up the third bood and just jump into that book. The book has a great mixture of mystery, love, bravery, and truth. Philip Pullman has truly written a classic novel that will linger with its readers for a long time to come.

Summary: How very sad!!!
Review: I found this a very sad book-what happens to Fred. At least Sally has a child to remind her of Fred. This was otherwise a very very good mystery. I only wish it had a different ending!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Shadow in the North packs a lot of suspence for its length.
Review: Shadow in the North, disputably the best of the three Sally Lockhart books, is the story of a young woman struggling to keep herself afloat in the world. She pits herself against a huge crime syndicate, leading to some terrible consequences. I, a reader of mostly adult books, found Shadow in the North a riveting mystery, despite its Young Adult rating. Passion, trust, fear, loyalty, and true love all come together in a exellent novel by Phillip Pullman, putting on the same level as some of of the most prestigious novels of the decade.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Best book I have ever read!!
Review: This book was the best out of the whole sally lockhart trilogy!! The only thing i didn't like was they killed Frederick!! I truly cried through that part. I love the misticism in this book with the whole thing on spiritualism.
