Rating: Summary: Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. Review: Having read the three predecessors, I was well aware of Barron's talent. I was hooked on 'Mirror' in seconds. Sadly...I finished the book in about six hours. Anyone who doesn't know whether or not to get this, you must. You really, truly must read this book.
Rating: Summary: A great fantasy story! Review: I am a 13-year-old boy and have recently read The Mirror of Merlin by T.A. Barron. I was pleased with his work. I couldn't put this exciting book down. In this book you follow Merlin, the young wizard, about on his journey to find his sword and to save the old forest from the expanding swamp. He encounters on his quest a cowardly ballymag; Shim, his giant friend; Nimue, the sorceress out for the Seventh Wonder; his imprisoned older self; and Arthur later to be King Arthur. This book was really exciting. The best part for me was when Merlin got the bloodnoose put into him. He then had to travel through The Mirror of Time to find his older self so he could get treated for his bloodnoose. Overall this was a very enjoyable book. It was a masterful work by T.A. Barron. Anyone that chooses to read The Mirror of Merlin, no doubt, will be pleased.
Rating: Summary: The Miror of Merlin Review: I liked this book because it presented problems not yet thught of in the average reader's mind. This bookis also intertwined with the other books so you didn't have to meet the whole cast of characters. It took little characters from the other books and made them bigger in one way or another. In every book new information is presented, this book holds alot. Not considering learning about Fincayra itself this book is only second to the fifth book. I think the best part of this book was when he meets himself, it was a comical meeting. Full of questions and anwsers. The meeting of young and old made me feel and think of pity, sorrow, laughter and wonder on what is to come in the future. I think the most vivid part of this book was when older Merlin grows a tree right in his own house. In the middle of his own living room! Reading the tree grow is as if you are right in the room when it happens. As if the tree is planted in the book and you are riding it yourself. Not only do you feel that you were there but that you belng there.
Rating: Summary: Don't buy this book. Review: I read all the other Lost Years books and the Merlin Effect - which is, in my opinion, the second-best book ever written - and this one was not up to T.A's standards! There is to much Hallia and not enough Merlin! Even in Wings Merlin's relationship with Hallia stops him from makin a lot of decisions! In my opinion Hallia is not an important character and impedes Merlin's abilities. Now what about Rhia? Rhia is also very important. She does barely anything at all in all but the first two books! If you must read this book, get it out of the library, do not buy it!!
Rating: Summary: Truly a wonderful book! :) :) :) :) Review: I received this book as a gift, (because my parents know what afan of T. A. Barron I am) and I would have finished it that day if Ihadn't paced myself and savored every chapter. The Mirror of Merlin, as well as the other Merlin books, pull you into the story (whether you like it or not!) and don't let go, especially when you come to a cliffhanger, which most chapters end in. I'm not sure if this book was better than the other Merlin Epic books (They're all good, but I particuarly like The Seven Songs of Merlin...) I liked the relationship between Hallia and Merlin, which has grown stronger since The Fires of Merlin. The characters are very well-developed, especially Merlin. This book is also filled to the brink with excitement and action. If you are looking for a great fantasy epic, may I STRONGLY recommend the Lost Years of Merlin Epic! I recommend you read them in order, though. :)
Rating: Summary: A bit draggier than the previous ones, but still good Review: I sniffle to think that after the next book, there will be no more "Lost Years." TA Barron originally intended a trilogy, but extended the series to five books when he felt that there should be more. Fortunately, he appears genuinely inspired and able to extend the storyline without straining it. This tale is a bit draggier and a bit less enchanted-feeling than its predecessors, but still oodles better than the semi-Arthurian tripe that often crops up. Hanging around with a dragon hatchling and the deerwoman Hallia (whom he has a marked interest in), Merlin ends up going after evil sorceress Nimue, whom he met in the previous book. Nimue wants revenge on Merlin, and she's willing to kill for it. Along the way, Merlin ends up in a cave where he meets--get ready--his older self. Gosh, I'd kill for that opportunity. Barron manages to keep the talks between young-Merlin and old-Merlin from getting too dumb, as it would be easy to make them. The older Merlin is wiser and more mature, yet the way he talks and acts brings to mind his younger self. Barron also does not imbue this meeting with a sense of doom, but rather of destiny, that Merlin will one day be sealed in a cave, yes ' but he will also impact the history of the world and set up the greatest king of mythic lore. For comic relief, we also have a peculiar creature called a Ballymag, who is weirder than Shim and talks more strangely than Lloyd Alexander's Gurgi. Merlin is his usual self, but older and wiser ' especially after the illuminating conversation with his older self. Love interest Hallia, perhaps my least favorite character of the series, is also prominent as she and Merlin begin to have "feelings" for one another. Nimue is a bit more two-dimensional than most of Barron's villains, like Urnalda the Dwarf Queen or Wings of Fire. But the scene where she summons the swamp ghouls is one of the most chilling things I've read in children's lit. My main problem? RHIA! My second-favorite character is noticeably absent from this book. Hallia's nice, but she is no substitute for Rhia. Hallia is too conventional, too normal, while Rhia has a woodland tang and a decidedly odd view of things. Couldn't Merlin and Hallia and Rhia have adventures together ALL the time? A lesser problem is the ballymag, who can be a little pain at times and whose speech may grate on those who were annoyed by Jar Jar Binks. Despite these flaws, the book is excellent as the previous ones. As the ballymag would put it, this book is "mooshlovely!"
Rating: Summary: Book 4 is another must-read in the Merlin series! Review: In book 4, the young Merlin finds even more troubles and obsticals to overcome. Feeling overshadowed by his amazing destiny, Merlin has difficulty due to the feeling that his choices are not his own, because he is destined to do so many great things. Meanwhile, the young wizard and his companion Hallia, accompanied by a very nervous ballymag, must venture into the Haunted Marsh to recover his stolen sword. There he meets many fierosme obsticals, including the sorceress Nimue. During his stay in the marsh, in a fascinating way, Merlin discovers more about himself than he ever felt possible and learns to accept his destiny and know his choices as his own. A wonderful and exciting tale, The Mirror of Merlin leaves us breathless for the 5th book in the wonderful epic.
Rating: Summary: The Miror of Merlin Review: In the long winter in a enchanted forest a child was born Merlin enchanted life. This book was a skill fully written book by Rosemary Sutcliff. A novel that will catch the readers eye. Set in England and partly in Norway, far away from the world we know to a unreal universe beyond imagination. This book set in a fantasy/ medieval setting. The main character in this book is the all powerful Merlin, described as a towering, wise and tattered man. Merlin created by the evil, dark, shadowed, witch, and queen of evil Mab to bring the people back to the old ways. Queen Mab's plan backfired and merlin will do anything to get the queen back for killing his aunt Antasia. At just a hand wizard merlin is ready to fight. But is Merlin ready for the challenges he is about to face? Read the book and find out. This phenomenal book I would recommend it to any young reader looking for a good book. If i were to rate this book on a scale from 1 to 10 it would be a 10. Any young reader would love this book. This book review was written by Philip Davis
