Summary: MY FAVORITE BOOK THIS YEAR!
Review: I have no idea if this is a kids book or an adult book. I just love it. Amazing art, beautiful, funny, clever story, written in a perfect deadpan. If you have kids, know any kids, have a father, are a father or know any fathers, you ought to get copies of this book for them. And get one for you. (I've already given 4 away.

Summary: Amazing Art, Wonderful Story
Review: I LOVED this book. I didn't believe that Neil Gaiman could write for kids, or that Dave McKean could do art that wasn't disturbing, but this book is sweet and funny and clever and wonderful. I bought a copy for my nephews and one for me (and I'm over 30)

Summary: Didn't find this funny, amusing, or worth the money.
Review: I was anticipating a funny story about a boy's experience in trading his father for pet goldfish. At first glance, it seemed like a book that my husband would enjoy reading with our son. However, I was disappointed with the content of the book and the negative messages about adopted children and fathers. The boy's father is completely unaware of anything going on around him because he is so totally engrossed in reading his newspaper. Needless to say, my husband has no interest in reading this book with our son again. I'm sure most fathers would not see the humor in being represented as oblivious drones who can't pull their attention away from the newspaper to interact with their children. Also, don't make the mistake of buying this book for an adopted child.

Summary: Utter Magic for all ages
Review: I was given a copy of this book some months ago, and it's become one of my favorite books, and also one of my daughter's favorite books. I'm 31 and she is 6.

The story is genuinely funny, it feels like what it is like to be a small boy at war with your sister (she reminds me of me at her age) in a world controlled by adults who are not paying attention. The pictures are just so lovely.

It's so rare for a book to be as good for the adult readers as it is for the children. I cant wait until Gaiman and McKean do another children's book.

I can't imagine anyone not liking it unless they had no sense of humor at all.

Summary: The day I swapped my dad for 2 goldfish
Review: I'm sure I'm not the first reviewer here to say that I love this book as much as any kid ever could. Great story, great writing, exceptional artwork by the inimitable dave mckean. If you don't fall in love with this book, then I'd be willing to wager that you never had a childhood.

By any means necessary, no matter how old you are, read this book; even if you have to swap your favoritest family member for a copy. (I've heard Amazon does in fact accept this kind of bartering system)

Summary: You'll need magnifying glasses to read this
Review: Much as I enjoyed the story & artwork, I have a HUGE bone to pick with McKean's lettering. He seems to hate the traditional balloons, so he just scrawls the dialogue in loopy letters across the painted panels, defacing his own work and incidentally obscuring Gaiman's by making it hard to read. Still, despite this caveat, it's a fine book --- I just wish Gaiman wouldn't let McKean do his own lettering.

Summary: Amazing
Review: My jaw dropped when I first saw this book. The illustrationsare a blend of photography, illustration and child-friendlysurrealism. Then there's the story. Simple, witty and hip, with a dose of reality to keep it believable. I collect children's books and nothing on my bookshelf, including the book I wrote and illustrated myself, comes close to this one.
