Summary: Shade's Children is a Fantastic book!
Review: I could go on and on about this wonderful book....it is scary and great all at once. Yes, when I saw the Matrix, I kept thinking, this is like Shade's Children! But I do believe that the book was written first. I stayed up way past my bedtime to finish it. I also recommend Sabriel, it is even better! I would really recommend that you read Shade's children, it will give you a frightning look at the human mind and what we will do to survive. It is, all in all, a chilling but beautiful book.

Summary: Rejoice all Adult and Young Adult Nix Fans!
Review: Finally another book worthy to my reading of Garth Nix' Sabriel! His other books are written for a younger audience, and after reading Sabriel I just couldn't be satisfied with buying one of his younger books.

When I saw Shade's Children on the shelf I knew I had to have it! It is a purely genius book, and is amazingly well written. Hardly ever predictable you will be hanging off of every sentance.

Young children who are saved from being picked apart and used in machines must battle for the other children's lives. They face love, hate, gain and loss. They all become closer to each other, which makes betrayal all the more bitter.

A tear jerker for anyone who really gets 'into' the book. I reccomend reading it more then once, I also read this at least 3-4 times a year. An instant favorite, it seems to bad that there won't be a sequel... though the ending didn't really give any room.

Summary: typical "robot-controlled" future
Review: Don't people ever get tired about books about how the future is this barren, dark place where robots and weird things from outer space takes over the human population? Shade's Children is one of the dozens of sci-fi books where a small group of humans battle the evil, alien force(which happens to be Overlords from a different planet and their scary, almost-human creatures)that dominates Earth. The story wasn't bad, but not original. The books way too much like "The Matrix" (which is also about a group of humans defending Earth from inhuman opponents). This book was more disgusting, though. Any child who reaches the age fourteen is sent to the "meat factory" where their brains are taken out and put into Myrmidons, Screamers, Trackers, etc. Some escapes this brutal fate. Gold-Eye, Drum, Ella, and Ninde are few of the lucky ones, and they join Shade, a human/computer who recruits kids to fight against the Overlords. But along the way, Shade's real intentions are shown. Though this narrative hook made me read the rest of the book, the conclusion was mediocre. The group fights the Overlords, and they win. Typical. I think that people should buy a different Garth Nix book because Shade's Children wasn't that great.

Summary: Ok, but not great
Review: I didn't enjoy this as much as Sabriel. I was rather disappointed, I really connected with Sabriel but not with the characters in Shade's Children. In fact I really dislike Shade.

Summary: Shades of John Christopher, with less than usual Nix quality
Review: Having read Garth Nix's superb book Sabriel, I picked up this book with interest. However, the story, while thrilling and packing an adrenaline punch, failed to make me care about the characters. Also, I have to say that the basic premise of Shade's Children is rather like that of John Christopher's Tripods Trilogy. Not that I particularly cared for that series, either, but I feel bad for this talented and usually inventive author, that he had to fall back on such hackneyed plotlines.

Summary: Interesting.
Review: I must admit, I didn't think I'd like this book, but I read it anyway. I mean, I'm not usually one to read about computers and robots and stuff like that, but I was pleasantly surprised. Though it didn't confuse me all that much, I can see how it could. If you're not engage enough in the book to either look at each word carefully or read sentences you don't quite understand more than once, your sure to end up confused, I'll tell you that. This is one of those books that requires your full attention in order for you to like it. So even if your not one to like this kind of sci-fi, read it anyway. You may turn out to like it.

Summary: Imaginative
Review: This is one of my favorite books. The story of the merciless overlords and what our world could become. I grew close to the charaters because of Nix's wonderful devlopment of them. Nix is an terrific writer and his stories are wondrous. I recommend this to everyone that loves sci-fi and fantasy. Even if you don't, give "Shade's Childern" a chance.

Summary: Very good piece of writing
Review: I first read Sabriel about a month ago and since then, I have been searching for a book to fill the gab left in my life since I finished Sabriel. This book almost entirely fills it and I really respect Garth Nix as an author because he can write two very different, although excellent, books and still manage to make a reader content with both. The poor children who die for no reason at all make this book different from Sabriel because in many ways, it is like our world today. The characters are very clever and original. I'ts not everyday you read about a 15 year old who has gold eyes and can see the future every now and then. Although this book has a good ending, it almost made me cry and I was deeply touched by what happened to my favorite characters. I loved this book very much. I can't wait for Garth Nix's next book.

Summary: Not just for children - adults will love it also!
Review: This is another fantastic sci-fi novel that should not be considered just 'Young Adult'. It gripped me from the first page, and I was immediately engulfed into this strange and terrifying world. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is that the ending seems to occur too quickly. It would be really interesting if a prequel was written - so that we can find out how this imaginative world was created.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Non stop action and an excellent plot.
Review: This book is full of surprises, suspence, good characters, and lots of thrills. If you like a page turner you will want this book to never end. I think it is Garth Nix's best work although sabriel was excellent, and if you like sabriel you should love this.
