Summary: One of the Best
Review: This book was amazing. I started reading Garth Nix a couple month's ago, and am now hooked. This was the second book I read by him. In this book, no one lives over 14, and the kids live in dorms. The four kids this book focuses on escaped using thier special abilities. Shade's Children is about the journey the four kids go on to try to overthrow the Overlords. This book is very good, and will be a good read to anyone who likes fantasy.

Summary: INCREDIBLE!
Review: This has to be one of the best science fiction/fantasy books I have and possibly ever will read. Although its not for younger audiences it is great as long as you can handle it. It scares you about how real it all seems and how you can relate to these peoples dreams and hopes. Even though it scares you sometimes it's like someone has chained you to the book.

Its about a world where everyone over 14 has vanished. But in its place 7 Overlords and their armies of the "animal" (human) made machines. Every child on their 14th birthday is sent to the Meat Factory to make their dreadful machines. Shade, a computerized personality, recruits the children lucky enough to escape. He trains them to fight the Overlords. Yet the closer they come to finding the Overlords weakness the more their numbers seem to dwindle. And Shade still recklessly sends more and more out.

Like I said this is INCREDIBLE! It is my first book by Nix but unless I get struck by lighting or something not my last. Highly recommended for older audiances.

Summary: mystifying, heart wrenching, and beautiful
Review: The world we live in has ended. The people who took care of us as children disappeared. Anyone older than 14 has vanished-your aunt, your father, your brother, you. . . The world has stopped and you hide from the buses that come to collect the neighbor children and your friends. The AI-like Shade takes you in. He sends you on missions to stop the evil Overlords that harvested your own mother's brain for their vicious machines to play their war games. He's your savior. Or so you thought. . .

Shade's Children was a book i bought because of my praise for his book Sabriel. The twisted, demented world of Ella, Drum, Ninde, and Gold-Eye gave me insight to the world of science fiction. The ending is phenomenal. You will cry. You'll cry for love, for life, and most of all, for happiness.

Summary: Garth Nix has HIT Gold with this Incredible Book
Review: Shade's Children is the most amazing book I have ever read. This book truly deserves six stars!! Garth has such a great way of keeping you on the edge of your seat, the whole WAY. If you have read the Harry Potter Books I guarantee that you will like Nix's book many times over.

I also RECOMMEND, Sabriel, Lirael Daughter of the Clayr, and The Seventh Tower series for slightly younger oudiences. I have read all of these books and will be reading The Ragwitch sooooon!!! :->

Summary: Wonderful book -- but be prepared
Review: Shade's Children (Garth Nix) is honestly among the best books I have ever read. It is well worth your time to read it, particularly if you are a science fiction fan.

That said, let's get a little warning out of the way first: This book is intensely dark from beginning to end. It is a book designed to frighten you, and it does its job well. The trick is, Shade's Children does not rely on the gory sort of horror Hollywood and even many novelists have introduced to us as of late. Rather, it twists your mind around, leaving out the disgusting scenes and instead realizing God is in the details, and the book uses subtlety that will haunt you long after you have forgotten the blood and guts of the movies.

Shade's Children involves a world decimated by warfare, warfare comitted by enigmatic beings called the Overlords, whose sole puprose is to make war. On a child's fourteenth birthday they are taken to a facility where their brains, muscles and other organs are used to make the Overlords' death machines.

At the center of the storm is a creature known only as Shade, who gives shelter and help to the few children lucky enough to escape the Overlords. However, they also conduct strikes in an attempt to destroy these things that have taken over their world, and as they come closer to succeeding in their goal, Shade seems to become more and more like the enemy they have to destroy.

In short, this is a wonderfully written book you will be remember long after you have finished it. However, as noted, it is *not* something for the kiddies--Shade's Children is the stuff of nightmares. If you are ready, however, there are few books I've read better than this.

Summary: awesome book
Review: When I looked at the cover of this book in the book store, I new I was going to like it. Reading about a paragraph of the first page confirmed it so I bought it and took it home. I had never heard of Garth Nix or read any of his books, yet by two o clock night that morning I had finished the book completely. It was sooo good. If you liked Ender's Game by O. S. Card, then I guarantee you will like this book. It reminded me of it the whole way through. I wont go explaining the plot & everything, but Ill just say that Shade's children is very well written. From the very first page it pulls you in and from then on you just can't put it down. The computer incerpts between the chapters really fit the book and are very interesting. However, if you want a happy book then I wouldn't recommend this one because it's can be pretty sad and deals with some really weighty moral issues.

Summary: McIntyre's 4th per. English
Review: I think shade's children is a good sci-fi futuristic book. The author weaves real human thoughts and emotions that people actually think into the story, along with interviews of the characters to give a little background information.
