Rating: Summary: Shade's Children Review Review: Shade's Children is an adventurous book. Kids under fourteen are living in a world full of Myrmidon's, Overlord's, and other creatures. However, these aren't ordinary beasts. They are made from humans, after they were sent to the Meat Factory. Shade, a hologram, is now setting up an army of children to try and stop the overlords. A group of kids, though, are to close to information that Shade wants to keep secret. This was a very interesting book, and I'm sure that anyone who is interested in adventure, will love it.
Rating: Summary: Spectacular!!, Extremely Better Than 'Sabriel' Review: 'Shades Children' is my absolute favorite book of all time. I've read all the other reviews and I disagree with many of them. 'Shade's Children' was not reminiscent of 'Matrix'. It was not terribly frightening, and it was WAY BETTER than 'Sabriel'. The novel was captivating and it fantastically explored the plight of Ella, Ninde, Gold Eye, and Drum both mentally, emotionally, and physically. It was exciting and capable of holding the reader's attention throught the entire story. It explored the needs wants and downfalls of humanity. Even lined with some dry humor 'Shade's Children' is a book that you will not forget. =Alexis=

Rating: Summary: Outstanding I loved it Review: When i borrowed this book from a friend at school i had no idea it would be so wonderful. My first Nix novel but definently not my last. The way that he brings out the personalities of Gold-eye, Ella, Ninde, and Drum is really fantastic. A real stay up till 2 in the morning book. I started reading it and liked it so much that i finished it in no time and had to return it(sadly). I recomend this book to any one, young or old. You won't be disapointed.
Rating: Summary: A literary Matrix Review: This book is flat out amazing. From startling beginning to its facinating conclusion, this is truly another masterpiece from Nix. This had everything you want from a book, great characters and a suspenseful, dark plot. This book is written fantastically. For those that have fallen in love with THE MATRIX, this is book is for you. I found this very samiliar - the post-apocolyptic setting, the die-hard characters. buy it. Read it. Enjoy it. Indulge yourself in it!!!
Rating: Summary: Nix's Books Review: I realy enjoy all of Garth Nix's books, I love the style of writing and the way the books flow. I can't wait for Nix's next book to come out!
Rating: Summary: The Darker, the Better Review: My father drank his coffee black. I don't drink coffee but I like my post-apocalyptic science fiction to be as black as possible. "Shade's Children" was every bit as satisfying to me as my father's morning cup of coffee. I like dark apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction because I crave watching humans overcome the worst of odds. I find the human adventure to be simulating and motivating. This novel fulfilled my every wish. Garth Nix writes with a fluidity and depth that is soul satisfying. The world he has created here is unique - I've never come across anything like it and I read a lot of books. Imagine if you woke up one morning and everyone over fourteen years was gone. Not dead, no bones, no ashes, just gone. Children are raised by drones in large dorms and when they reach the ripe old age of fourteen, they are sent to the meat factory where their bodies and brains are harvested to make the cyborg soldiers the Overlords use in their war games. Into this grisly background Nix inserts four humans the reader cannot help but love: Elle, Drum, Ninde and Gold-Eye. It is up to these four children, to save the rest. They have a sentient computer to guide them but is Shade an ally or an enemy? "Shade's Children" is a page turner. I could not put it down and when I was finished, I simply turned back to the beginning and started over. You will too!! (...)
Rating: Summary: Shade's Children-The Best Book Ever Review: This book takes place after the change. An event where everyone over the age of 14 disappears and alien overlords take control of the world. At the age of 14 children are taken to the meat factory and are subject to an extreme harvest where their muscles and brains are used to build the overlords' creatures. Those who have escaped from this harvest are taken in by the robot-like Shade. This story is mainly about Ella, Drum, Ninde, and Gold-Eye and the missions they are given to by Shade. Everything is fine at first but Shade becomes more and more reckless as they come closer to the truth... The story draws you in with action and suspense while giving you foreshadows of what is yet to come making you want to keep reading. This book is written in a style all its' own. The book is written in chapters with interview sessions in between that let you know information of how characters escaped and Shade's own thoughts. The plot has many twists and leaves you surprised at every turn. While this is my favorite book, it isn't for everyone. The story is dark, scary, and very graphic at some points making it more of an adult book. Overall this is the best book I have ever and I doubt any book could be better.
Rating: Summary: Review of Shade's Children Review: Shade's Children has to be the best young adult book of all time. Mr. Nix is an excellent writer and is a master of letting the action roll. This book has all the characteristics of a great novel. It has love, action, suspense, treachery, and more. You need all of these to make a really good book and Nix has done just that. The book takes place in a city near the ocean, in the not so distant future. Fifteen years previous, to the book, all the people over the age of fourteen simply disappeared. Now, the Overlords and their human monster machines rule the world. Kids are "grown" in the Dorms and on there fourteenth birthday are taken away to the Meat Factory to become Wingers, Myrmidons, Screamers, Trackers, or Ferrets. Over the years, some kids have developed special talents called Change Talents. Using these talents, they were able to escape the Dorms. If they are lucky, they will find Shade, a holographic image that has the knowledge of an adult. He is like a father for them. Luckily, a few kids who have extraordinary Change Talents have found Shade. Golden-Eye can see the "soon-to-be-now", Ella has the ability to conjure small items, Ninde has telekinetic capabilities, and the hulking Drum can manipulate objects from afar. These four have the determination to destroy the all-powerful Overlords, but will they be able? Will they, too, be "manufactured" like the rest? To find out read Garth Nix's Shade's Children. I think this book was great! The book has a few minor flaws but they can be over looked by your own imagination. While I was reading I wondered why are the Overlords here? Or why do they need 14-year-old kids? It was not answered in the book but I wish it were. The personalities of the characters were very vivid and detailed. The main theme to this book, like most, is Good vs. Evil, but will Evil finally prevail? In conclusion, if you like science fiction stories and you are a young adult (or adult) this is the book for you. I am sure you will enjoy the adventures of the Children and the surprise ending. Also, if you liked this book than you may like his other works like Sabriel. It is more of a fantasy but good none the less.
Rating: Summary: Incredible! Review: The first of three books by Garth Nix that I have had the pleasure of reading, this one is definately at the top of the list. Deeply compelling with a beautifully written ending and complex characters, this novel is one that can be read several times and still remain both intriguing and surprising. I highly reccomend it!
