Rating: Summary: An interesting and thrilling read Review: Shade's Children is, in my opinion a very creative and imaginative book. This is the only book by Garth Nix that I have ever read. The whole idea behind the book is very fascinating, much different from other books that I've read. It is a mystery that is trying to be solved, how all of the adults dissapeared. One day they all just vanished. And then the Overlords came. Nobody knows where or how they came. One day they were just there, and then came their creatures.Screamers scream singly, all alone; Trackers track in trios of three; Ferrets follow in fangs of five; Myrmidons march in maniples of seven; Wingers fly in flights of nine. The Overlords captured the children and sent them to the Dorms, only to stimulate there bodys, for later on their Sad Birthday, they would be taken to the "Central Processing Unit" (i.e. The Meat Factory). Their muscels and brains were to be used only for the creation of creatures. But there is a band of rebels under the guidence of Shade. Children who had escaped the Dorms and been taken in by Shade. Though Shade is not a man. He is not even really living. Is Shade there to help them or is he just using them for his own purposes. Find out. This book is really excellent and suspenseful. I strongly recommend it to anyone with a liking for science fiction.
Rating: Summary: A Plain Freakish Futuristic World... Review: In our world, in the future, you must be killed at 14. Your brain & muscles will be put into ... animals (Myrmidons, Trackers, Wingers, Ferrets, Screamers...) that are under the control of seven Overlords, evil humans. Or, once were humans. Shade is a computer that used to be Robert Ingman. His machines & children live in a sub, often going out on mission, collectivly trying to defeat the overlords. Some of the children realize that he is almost tricking them out of their lives, sending them on dangeous that may not have to be accomplished..... Anyways, this was a great book. Very suspenseful. Not as nightmarish as other reviewers made it out to be. The climax is totally awesome! I strongly encourage to buy this book today & gett rapped in Nix's freakish world today!
Rating: Summary: This was a GOOD GOOD GOOD book! Review: This book was probably one of the best books I've ever read (that's saying something). I LOVED 'Lirael' and 'Sabriel' and I am going to plead my dad to pre-order 'Abhorsen', and this book really lived up to the standards of Garth Nix. Overall, I would reccommend this book to anybody over the age of nine because of the violence. If you like science fiction, you should DEFINITLY read Shade's Children!!
Rating: Summary: Well written, but... Review: terrifying. Shade's Children, while 'good' in that it is well written and exciting, gives me the same feeling reading Orwell's 1984 did. It's definitely a page-turner sort, but you will get the chills as you read. It's not a scary or horror book in the usual sense, but in terms of sheer quality of evil the bad guys make Darth Vader look like a teddy bear. If this is the sort of book you like, you will love Shade's Children. Otherwise, you may want to pass on it.
Rating: Summary: one of the best books i have ever read Review: Shade's children is one very good book gold-eye is so hepless at first until ella, ninde, and drum come along and spice things up. When u first start off reading this book it is a little slow but after a while u cant wait to read the next chapter. I would recomend this to anyone who like science fiction or just wants to read a good book.
Rating: Summary: This book is amazing . I mean wow. Review: Shade`s Children is an awesome tale of a terrifying future or elsworld. It is a perfect blend of fantasy, power and friendship. If you`ve ever read marvel comics x-men it favors their mythology with a darker aweinspiring tone. It is sometimes frightening because the characters go through a lot where it seems as though they would give up or be killed or captured by the evil forces at work. I highy suggest this book it is just something that cant be missed. trust me.
Rating: Summary: loved it!! Review: i loved this book i read it the first time i think 1 or 2 years ago and reread some part of it atleast once every month, i guess i should give you the plot now so here is what i think is the plot, there is this guy called "goldeye" (he has gold eyes) and he has escaped from the "dorms" where the kids are educated on the basics until you hit 14 years old and are harvested (they un/destring your muscles and put them on their creatures, and they take out you brain and use that too) you find out pretty soon that goldeye can see things in the future sometimes (he calls it the "soon to be now" or something like that)but he can't control it, he gets cornered by some trackers (creatures that track the run away kids) and three people rescue him-ella, drum, and ninde, they take him to where they stay with "shade" and he finds out that ninde drum and ella have special abilities (ninde-hear thoughts, ella-make things {she thinks of them and then they appear}and drum-move things with his mind) and goldeye finds out shade is a computer program, a hologram with AI and is a little creeped out, most of the charachters are 18 at the oldest, thats all i can think of right now and plus i have a real bad pain in my stomach, and i had to take some extra strength pain reliever they gave me at the hospital and now my mom is all paranoid and is making me go to sleep now, the end of they book is wrapped up beautifully, leaves no questions to be asked, loved it one time when i opened it up i found [$$$] bucks i had hidden in there
Rating: Summary: leelu Review: Garth Nix is an amazing writer. Shade's Children is hard to discribe without giving so much away. The kind of science fiction that Garth writes makes all of the strange things seem believable. I would suggest to anyone who likes science fiction to read this book. Also if you like this book I would suggest his other books. They all have the same style but not even close to the same story lines. I love his books!
Rating: Summary: This is the best book ever! Review: Garth Nix has brought the Science fiction genre to a new high. This book is so great I couldn't put it down. The way he makes you think about how the future could actually be, is scary. If the real world were actually like that if you had to die on your 14 birthday just to be made into some game pieces for a higher power, this world would be terrible. I especially like the computer entries at the end of each chapter, they told what the character's are like and what they think about all of this. At the end of the book I was literally in tears, I didn't want it to end. I would give this book a six but that's not on the rating scale.
Rating: Summary: Garth Nix is amazing Review: Garth Nix is brilliant, his books really make you think. My best friend noticed the book Sabriel because of the amazingly magnificent illustrations and got hooked. She read the first page of Sabriel to me and I couldn't get enough! I am anticipating the next book (Abhorsen) but I am sad because I have heard it is the last of that series. I also just found out about the seventh tower and I am ecstatic! The only bad thing about his books is the feeling when you finish. He is the best writer and he needs to be awarded for his hard work and dedication!
