Rating: Summary: A Modern "The Planet of the Apes" Review: This book is great! Like in "The Planet of the Apes," "Shade's Children" explores a future where humans are not at the top of the food chain. Although gruesome ideas are mentioned at times, that is necessary to retaining a good book complete with a powerful message. It also has a good science fiction feel, but you don't have to enjoy science fiction to enjoy this. However, a good imagination will help greatly.
Rating: Summary: really good Review: I really liked Shade's Children. It was really exciting and everything it said seemed like it could be possible, because it was only a few years in the future (but I hope not the part about machines taking over the world). Some parts of it were really violent, but that just made it seem more believable. I suggest any science fiction fan read this book!
Rating: Summary: Unique, intriguing, riviting etc. etc. etc..... Review: Very good book. one of my personal favorites. I doubt you'll be disappointed, so stop reading these stupid reviews and buy it. It's only what? $5 or something like that? it won't put a very big hole in your pocket...
Rating: Summary: Awesome Book ( a little scary) Review: I first read Sabriel and then wanted more Garth Nix books to read. All I could find was Shade's Children and at the time it seemed too scary. Then a year later after much searching for a better Garth Nix book I finally decided to read Shade's Children. I couldn't put it down! I thought it was sooo intriging I was a little grossed out at parts but you get over it. I wouldn't recommend this for young readers but it's ok for young and pre teens. I loved this book!
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK WAS THE EXCELLENT Review: Who ever says this book was bad, DEEZ! It had good dark theories and nice action in it, it kept me on the edge.
Rating: Summary: A little frightening at parts, but still totally cool. Review: This is a scary but excellent book. I do not recommend reading it late at night when you are alone in the house (I did and had a hard time getting to sleep after) however, that doesn't mean that I didn't thouroughly enjoy it. It takes place in a future of danger, and fear, when everyone over the age of fourteen is killed...except for a band of freedom fighters known as shade's children.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: Garth Nix is a great writer. This is the first book of his that I have read and I am hoping it will not be the last. I could not put this book down. The 4 main charachters were well developed and I thought Shade was cool. If you want a good sci-fi book that has machines, an intense plot and interesting charachters this would be a great book to read!
Rating: Summary: Thrilling and totally engrossing Review: I loved this book...period. It was almost as good as Nix's _Sabriel_ (all though, nothing ever will be.) I noticed an uncanny similarity to the movie _The Matrix_. If you liked that movie, (who didn't) then you will like this book because it may have been the basis of the story. Garth Nix is a up and coming author. He has such an ability to entertain. If you can't really ever find what you want to read when you roam the sci-fi/fantasy aisles in the store, you can't go wrong with this one!
Rating: Summary: ! BOOK OF THE CENTURY! Review: I thought this would of have been the Book of the Century. I could not put it down. I put of my homework time I was reading it. I would recomend this book to anyone and everyone. The characters, Ella, Drum, Nide, and Gold-eye where great! The ending was a suprise. I am looking forward to the other bookes by Garth Nix.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS A GREAT BOOK READ IT TODAY (A reader from Oregon USA Review: I thought that this was one of the greatest books I have ever read. It was about 4 kids escaping the dorms. The dorms are a place where all kids under the ages of 14 are kept. When they get to the age of 14 they are sent off to the meet factory. At the meat factory they are basically killed, but there mind is put into creatures. The names of the creatures are Trackers, Myrmidons, Ferrrets, and Wingers. The leaders of all of this are called overlords. There are 7 overlords all of a different color and there own way of life. These kids all had there own powers. These powers were called "Change talents". Goldeye could see the soon to be now which was basically what would happen in around 5 seconds. He could not control this power. Ninde if she sucked on her nuckle she could read the thoughts of anything that could think. Ella if she knew what shape and size a thing was she could use all her strength and make the things. Drum the fighter of the group had major strength and could easily fight off 1 creature with some help from his group. These four people lived with a human personality computer named Shade. Shade had saved his personality into the computer right as the change was going to happen. The place that they lived was a submarine where the groups of kids that got out and could servive to get to the place could live and survive unless on a mission from shade and die. The group that he was interested in writing about were always close to death, but they always survived somehow. No overlord has ever been killed but if ever one did it would be great for all of human kind. This book is supposed to be happening sometime in the 3000s. If you ever want to find out if the humans survive the change read the book and you will be surprised at the beginning middle and end. This is a great book and I reccomend this book to people who like young adult books and who likes changed worlds.
