Rating: Summary: Forever Review: I thought this book was unpleaseant. The boy and the girl in this book were really odd. I don't think anyone should read it. I read other Judy Blume books, but this one was NASTY!!
Rating: Summary: Tabloid Entertainment Review: This book has and had one goal: to sell copies. The author exploits teenage curiosity about sexual matters in a way that validates the "feelings" of most young teens -- feelings that they want to have sex, to be physically intimate. But guess what, folks, following your "feelings" isn't the right way to live. Somebody cuts you off in traffic -- what do your "feelings" tell you to do? RUN 'EM OFF THE ROAD. Should you do that? No. A teacher gives you a bad grade and kids at school pick on you. "Feelings" say: blow up the school and kill the teachers (remember Columbine?). Should you do that? No. Hormones produce "Feelings." Love is a committment based on a choice. Love doesn't appear anywhere in this book. ....
Rating: Summary: Very good book Review: I read this book in 7th grade (eeks!). It is VERY descriptive, but it is a wonderfully written book. I recommend it for girls 14+.
Rating: Summary: An Inspiring and Extremely Touching Novel... Review: Forever, a book written by Judy Blume in the 1970's, is a genuine and extremely touching account of first love. Existing in print for some time this book still is an admirable novel by teenagers, like myself, of the current generation and I imagine many generations to come. I read this book in less than three days and I found it to be exceptionally realistic as to what the perspective of love through a teenager's eyes is really is like. It also immensely related to my own life and personal experiences of tragic and seemingly true love. This book emphasized the true emotions and feelings a young girl experiences following the "first time." I believe that too many adults have criticized this novel for the seemingly small of amount of detailed sexual content. Sexual intercourse is an issue that we, as teenagers, all deal with and talk about. Sex , today especially, is a highly controversial subject but we, as teens are all still curious and experience things for ourselves. Like the characters in Forever, Michael and Kathryn, do. Blume writes with no shame about a beautiful thing such a sex and of teenage first love. This novel hid nothing of the reality of it all. It is an inspiring story of love, sex and the difficulties of being a teenager, in the simplest terms written with great passion. I would highly recommend any high school student to read it, especially girls. It is a warm, "feel good" book that I would and will eventually read again. I know it.
Rating: Summary: Forever Review Review: This book was an excellent book for more mature teens. It was the first book I actually read without being forced too. This book is full of suprises and conflicts. Forever keeps you very interested. There was not one point in the book that I was uninterested. Girls I say that are more advanced should read this book, because it has some explicit and graphic points in it.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining Review: This book was entertaining, although i found it a bit too descriptive in some parts. The story revolves around Katherine and Michael, who meet at a party on New Years, and continues until the summer. I think that this is a good story for teens, but it should have some kind of warning on it since it is innapropriate for anyone under 15. A lot of the story is almost pornographic.
Rating: Summary: What you need to know about forever. Review: A very moving book for young adults about the 'frist time'. A fairy tale love story with that extra bit of romance. It has to be an excellent book because it's my Judy Blume, my one of my favorite authors and one of the best teenage book writers. Although thins is a very good book i recommend it to teen 14 and older because of the content. One last word i fully agree, it is 'a moving story of the end of innocence.
Rating: Summary: Teen Issues About Love & Sex Review: "Forever" is the 'adult' novel about Katherine Danziger and Michael Wagner, two teenagers experiencing first love together. They meet at a mutual friend's New Year's Eve party. Initially, Kath isn't too impressed with him, but as the night wears on, she finds herself growing more and more attracted to him. Then he shows up the next day and admits he's interested in her. From there, everything's pretty obvious, so I'm not going to prattle on about details and events. They spend countless hours together, going skiing, making out, etc. The sex scenes are explicit (but not trashy) and sometimes funny. You'll understand what I mean when you meet Ralph. Then comes the dreaded summertime when Katherine and Michael are separated by jobs. This is when their relationship is on the line: Does Katherine cheat on Michael or not? Answer: You'll just have to read "Forever" and find out for yourself. When I picked this book up recently, I was surprised to see it was written back in the 70s. Even though it's a 'dinosaur' of a book, the material is pretty much up-to-date about teenage pregnancy and sex. The one thing that's changed over the years is AIDS, which Judy Blume briefly talks about at the beginning of this book. Otherwise, this book will probably be passed on for generations, and the issues will probably still be the same. One complaint: Nobody in this book seemed to have any major hang-ups about sex or birth control. Kath's family and friends were eager and open to talk about sex; Kath's grandmother even gave her birth control advice. Now, I don't know of anyone who could be so lucky, so in that respect "Forever" failed to be realistic. Even though "Forever" is not my favorite Judy Blume book, it's definitely worth reading. If you're pretty comfortable about sex, you'll probably enjoy this book. If not, you'll probably cringe and either burn it or secretly continue reading it. Three years after it was published, "Forever" was made into a TV movie. I wasn't born yet to see it, but from what I heard, I didn't miss much.
Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK!! Review: Judy Blume has always kept her books realistic and honest and this is no different. I have read a few books by Judy Blume before and they are all very realistic. I bet many readers can relate to the books that she writes. I just got done reading the book Forever. This is by far is the best book I have ever read! All I can really say is this is a really great book about sex, love, relationships, and how they might not be....... FOREVER it is such a great book that I wish there was a sequel to it, now I can't find any books that live up to it! This book just kept me hooked and I found my self keep wanting to read till I got to the end. I wanted to read more but there was no more to read. I would recommend this book to all teenagers because it shows how you can get threw problems and how it is ok if it does not last forever. If you get a chance you should really pick this book up. I don't like to read much but this book changed my mind and I hope I can find a lot more like this and more book by Judy Blume.
Rating: Summary: Important, But Not Necessarily Good Review: In Amazon.com's review, it is pointed out that with Forever Judy Blume was the first author to write candidly about sex for a teen readership, and she has defended that right ever since. I do agree with her. Of course sex is a valid topic since (whether your active or not) it is all around you. Unfortunately, even though Forever was the first book to write about sex for teens, it isn't overly well written, and it really misses its point. Katherine is the main character in the book. It's written from her point of view, and it is about the year-long relationship her senior year with Michael. Throughout the year, the two fall in love, she loses her virginity, and they vow to be together "forever." That is, until she spends time around another guy and begins to wonder about "forever" with Michael. At that point in the story, it seems like Blume had actually reached a point where the characters (and the reader) could gain some type of insight. Maybe Katherine would realize that she was too immature for that relationship and too immature to face the consequences that go with a relationship? But Blume kills her one moment when Katherine goes on about not regreting anything she had done. Katherine had missed the point, as had Blume. Some of the characterizations in the novel were less than perfect, too. For instance, Michael is really suppossed to be in love with Katherine. The reader is told that but never sees it. All you ever see Michael doing is trying to have sex with Katherine. You never feel that he really cares for her, and that makes it even more ludicrous when Katherine doesn't regret anything. I'm giving Forever three stars on its importance to young adult literature. But really, as a work of art, it certainly deserves no more than two.
