Rating: Summary: Not Very Good Review: i thought that it was cheap and did not have a good story. It does illustrate first love well, but it seems like that's it...no other story. I recommend that you get this book from the library if you really want, but that's it...don't bother buying it!
Rating: Summary: an excellent book, the best I've read! Review: I'm almost 12 years old and loved this book, it was well written and a page turner! it talks alot about sex, but in a mature way. I reccomend this book to anyone from ages 12 and up. I will read it over and over again!
Rating: Summary: 1 Star is Generous Review: I read this book maybe 15 years ago, and I remember it as being Judy Blume's worst. Every girl in my junior high was carrying around dog-eared copies of it and enjoying the "racy" parts; I can remember being in grade school and clustering in a circle with other little girls, titillating each other by reading the sexual scenes aloud. It was the equivalent of little boys sneaking a look at their dad's "Playboy" magazines. There are no redeeming qualities to the book; the writing isn't good, and there is no underlying message and no character development to speak of. I suspect Blume wrote this one just to make money. I would not recommend this book to anyone, least of all pre-sexual girls, as it won't teach them anything about literature, and it won't teach them anything very worthwhile about sex either.
Rating: Summary: My review of Forever by Judy Blume Review: Forever was a book i simply could not put down. I was up at three am reading it. I kept my attention and there were surprises every chapter. It definetly made me think of my first real love. The book is very realistic and i found i could relate to Katherine in many ways. I found it very helpful for when i have my own high school experiences. Throughout the book i found myself laughing, smiling, and crying. I would definetly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys modern day high school relationship books. It was the best book i ever read!
Rating: Summary: Everyone has their own opinion. Review: I am aware that everyone has their own opinion, but this book is just plain good! Some readers have been very harsh when rating this book and I figure that that is the people who were either too young to read it and bot yet experinced high school or a parent who has long since forgotten what high school is like. The book is about the true life of high school and how high school love doesn't last forever.
Rating: Summary: This book is not appropriate for most teens.. Review: I feel very sad when writing the review for this book. I can remember being an impressionable, and curious teen, when this book was placed in my hands some 20 years ago. I can tell you that many young women I knew became sexually active at a very young age, due in large part to this book. It made sex seem 'hip' and 'cool'. The saddest part of all is what this book says about our culture...which has cheapened a beautiful act between a husband and wife into a poor imitation.I would not recommend this book to any teen, especially ones who lack parental involvement in their lives. I believe that all parents should pre-read this book before allowing their teens to do so.
Rating: Summary: A Must Read for Anyone 14 and up Review: Judy Blume's approach to teenage sexuality is honest and refreshing. I have to completely disagree with all who said that it was disgusting. This novel was, in my opinion, not very graphic at all. Certainly, it was extremely mild compared to any romance novel. And since when has sex and first love become "disgusting"? I recommend this book to any teenager, male or female, although I think females would identify more. It's amazingly realistic and true to life. Every teen can relate somewhat to the characters. I don't think that Judy Blume is trying to promote sexual activity in teens. She just tells it like it is.
Rating: Summary: good book Review: I loved this book I am only 13 so this was my first adult book I found it kind of sad but verry graphic and sweet I can't describe how the book made me feel but during the book it made me think hey i wanna have sex and oh that sounds like fun you know? But by the end of the book i was thinking I should wait. definetly a good book it makes you wanna wait for the right person!
Rating: Summary: Forever: A Realistic Account of 'First Love" Review: Forever's main plot surrounds 17 year old Katherine and the months leading up to her 'first time'. Unlike other teenage romance novels, this book is informational and realistic. Katherine is responsible and mature. From waiting until she feels ready for sex to her first gynecological exam at Planned Parenthood, Katherine makes smart decisions. The main flaw seems to occur when Katherine and Michael do not continue using condoms when she begins taking the pill(this can be explained by the 1975 publication date). Otherwise, this novel gives teens accurate and useful information concerning safe sex. The end also gives young adults a realistic view of what 'forever' really means for a teenage romance. Overall, one of the best coming of age books I've come across. It is not only informative but extremely readable.
Rating: Summary: Beautifully written, deals with challenging topic Review: Judy Blume has the unique and special gift of capturing the teenage idiom without being patronizing. Although teenage sexual exploration is something some of us may feel 'morally' against, the book does not enter this debate, rather it explores the issues and emotional turmoil of an adolescent girl exploring her sexuality. Judy Blume guides the reader to sympathize and learn from the main character, without moralizing or being too didactic or 'preachy' and I am sure many teenage girls have found this work, although fiction, to be liberating and relieving to know 'they are not the only one!' If the thematic material is going to provide too much of a brain stretch for more sensitive readers, I would recommend reading some other of Blume's work, such as "Iggie's House" or "Deenie", as Blume remains first and foremost a fantastic and gifted children's writer, and it would be a shame if this gift was overshadowed by her choice of topic matter.
