Rating: Summary: My favorite book Review: I love this book so much! I've read it several times now, and it loses nothing with the re-reading. I have gotten many of my friends to read it, even straight ones, and they all enjoyed it.
Rating: Summary: Best thing to come out of my relationship with X... Review: My ex- lent me this and it was the best thing I got out of that relationship, let me assure you. With all that's been said about how wonderful this book is, let me say that I personally love it just as much as the next person... But it's not the greatest novel in existence. My major complaint is the way Liza acts-- totally ridiculous at times, while Annie's always calm. People aren't really like this! No one is always calm, and I've never met anyone who could fly off the handle with no motivation the way Liza does. And on another note, I honestly think Ms. Garden meant to send the songbird Annie to Berkelee in Boston, not Berkeley in California-- Berkelee College of Music; it makes more sense to me that way. And I think the story would have been more compelling if Annie had been a subway away for months instead of across the country. But back to the actual novel-- it's strong points are many, including the very intense way the settings are described, especially the teachers' apartment, and to a lower degree, even the Cloisters. I also liked the way both girls were pretty much introverts; it seems to work out that way when you know there's something 'different' about you...
Rating: Summary: Helps you understand, and so much more... READ IT! Review: I started reading this book one night and stayed up until 5am till I was finished! Nothing I read ever made me feel this way, like somebody finally understood. If you feel like nobody understands homosexual relationships, read this book and almost everything you think about may be in there. AOMM finally tells what it FEELS like to be in one of these relationships, and it shows (finally!) that homosexual relationships involve LOVE, something you don't hear much about because of all the "preachiness" of most books on this subject. Annie and Liza are great characters; Liza could be a model for how to cope in an ignorant world. It's not fair that Liza's greatest struggle in this book was being herself! I wish anyone who is ANY sexuality would read this, because it is so true. It is am extreme Eye Opener!!! If everyone was given books like this to read, maybe we would all understand each other a little bit better. It is a beautiful story of how two friends fell in love, nevermind the fact they are both the same sex. This book can be described in this statement: "Don't let ignorance win. Let love."
Rating: Summary: Beautiful and engaging story Review: First thing is, I'm male and straight (married, in fact, with a young daughter). I thought this book was a beautiful and engaging romance, and I really don't read romance. Anne McCaffrey is as close as I normally get. But the story is all feeling and sensitivity, understandable and believable to anyone who hasn't forgotten what love is or confused it for something else. I am jealous that my own writing has never reached such a level of moving eloquence. I could hardly put it down! The author is someone I think I would like to know, since a little of an author always shines through the characters of a story.
Rating: Summary: The book is awesome !!! Review: Annie on my Mind is my favorite book because it tells how life really is when you're trying to love someone of the same sex. I think this book would be a good read if you just recently got into and homosexual relationship or you really don't understand these kind of things. I know it opened my eyes to a brand new world and I am thankful!
Rating: Summary: A beautiful love story Review: An unabashedly tender and romantic love story, with two witty and engaging protagonists. Naturally, the characters must go through the requisite problems that young, gay couples face- confusion, discrimination, lack of social acceptance- but the author never becomes "preachy" or drowns the book with assumptions about the moral nature of homosexuality. Instead, the emphasis is on the value of the love itself.A truly lovely story.
Rating: Summary: An amazing tale of how true love abounds Review: Annie on My Mind is the most beautiful love story I have ever read. It is the story of two girls who come to terms with their sexuality & find love in each other. It's not an easy process & they have many forces working against them, but their love overcomes all the obstacles. It's wonderful! It touched my heart & opened my eyes in more ways than I can even begin to describe.
Rating: Summary: Compelling, emotive, I loved it! Review: I am a young lesbian and I came on to Amazon.com looking for some gay teen fiction. This was reccomended by many friends so I ordered it. It really gave me an insight into teenage lesbian relationships, and pulled me along in the romance and magic of the story as well. I'd reccomend it to anyone like me who just wants some reassurance that this way of life is possible. I really loved it. If anyone wants to exchange booklists or anything else with me, please feel free to email me.
Rating: Summary: Very good for young people who are afarid of who they are! Review: This book I will keep in my heart. It was the first lesbian book that I had read and it helped through my trials and tribulitaions. If you don't relate to Annie then you can relate to the other on. It is a very powerful llok at what youth have to go through as they themselves wander through the comming out stage. Dealing with who they love, or fallen in love with. It helped me and am sure it has and will continue to help young women in this akward time.
Rating: Summary: A must-read for teens, both gay & straight and teachers, too Review: I read this book about 5 years ago when I was still a student. This book is great, especially for teenage lesbians who are disturbed by their own identity/sexual orientation. It's also a good book for teachers who really want to help young people understand and find themselves. I especially like the lines 'What does helping others mean? Helping them to be like everyone else or helping them to be themselves?' I think these are questions that teachers and adults have to bear in mind when they try to give advice to young gays and lesbians.
