Rating: Summary: ritual Review: I borrowed this book from a dear friend when I was a senior in high school. I cried so many times the pages were smeared. You can really feel the struggle they endure in their judgmental world (our world). I thoroughly enjoyed the book and make it a ritual to re-read it every year since. It was my first book depicting a normal lesbian relationship, and although it's considered "young adult" fiction - I continue to read it as a college student. I now own my own copy and have purchased it for many of my friends as well. Not one has been disappointed . . .
Rating: Summary: I read it 3 times already....It has to be good! Review: Annie on My Mind is a clear depiction of the thoughts Liza has about her new found feelings for her new friend Annie. I could feel Liza's confusion and twinges of embarrassment when she has those special feelings for Annie that she almost understands. When she finally stops denying them I felt myself sight with relief! Its a great book and Liza and Annie's characters come alive with pure brilliance. Read it, you'll see!
Rating: Summary: A clear way of expressing about love in a different view! Review: The story "Annie on My Mine" is about Liza, a senior in high school who met and fell in love with Annie. They have gone through discrimination and pressures from their families and friends. This story is mostly about how Liza and Annie have to overcome the problems they would face because they are not considered normal people. It is really a great story in which we could learn not to dicriminate people just because they are different from you. We should treat everyone with respect and treat everyone equally. I like this book and would recommend everyone to read it because whether you are gay or straight, it gives lots of helpful and accurate information about homosexuality. Then that way, we won't have to look at others differently from us. This book is worth reading because it helps you to find out more and understand better things about different people.
Rating: Summary: A powerful story told by a female YA's poing of view. Review: My preconceieved ideas about gay people made this book a hard read at first, but while I was reading the story, I forgot that it was a girl talking about her lesbian realtionship with another girl. So strong are the feelings of love between these two people. I have a different view about people in general. If a person loves another person, the feelings are just like those that we feel for our spouses of the opposite sex. This book will mirror the life of many of our confused young adults. Perhaps it will allow them to see that they are not "weird" but different, and that they are not the only gay people in the world. Perhaps it will help them see that they are not "gay". It is definitely not a book that will turn someone gay if they read it. It is just not a "read" that is appropriate for every young adult. I would not encourage a young adult to read it unless they insisted that they were looking for that particular book. AC.
Rating: Summary: Two girls who fall in love deal with the homohobic world Review: This story is something unlike any other book I've ever read. It's warm, romantic, emotional, heartbreaking and true to the soul. Two girls who love each other so much are denied to show their love in public and when discovered are forced to face the consequences of love that isn't the norm for people. What Annie on My Mind does is simply take a love so great, so wonderful, and offer it up to the reader...then they add the opinion of those afraid of two girls in love and what the outcome brings. You will fall in love with Annie, Liza, this whole book, and that I can guarantee!
Rating: Summary: Just One Word: Poignant Review: I read this book in college (hiding it because it was 'Gay' & worse because it was a 'Teen' book). This book lifted my spirits & broke my heart. And yet some times when I drive through NYC, I wish that these two girls, now woman, could be real and living together. A wonderful book, wonderfuly written
Rating: Summary: Eureka Review: I found this book in the library when I was 14 way back in 1990, and I have to admit Ive never looked back since. It helped me put a word to all my feelings, I guess it was the lesbian equivalent of "Eureka". Annie and Liza enabled me to give form to my nascent sexuality and I will forever be indebted to them for this.I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: An Absolutely Beautiful Love Story Review: I found this book on a list of recommended reading while doing a college paper on adolescent homosexuality. Reading Annie and Liza's story opened my eyes to what it means to be gay the way no textbook case studies ever could. Instead of clinically outlining the social problems and emotional stress that a gay teen faces, Annie On My Mind concentrates on how it feels to be in love. The problems and anxiety are there too, but the main theme is how these situations may be faced and overcome through the power of love. I highly recommend this book to everyone, gay or straight. Wonderful!
Rating: Summary: Sweet Story of Young Lesbian Love Review: I'm pleased this book exists for young women to read and, hopefully, feel more validated in their same-sex feelings. The growing love between two teenaged girls is drawn sensitively and realistically. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because the way that everyone they know just wholeheartedly embraces their open lesbianism is unbelievable. Much of what young lesbians must endure and overcome is harassment and disapproval from those they know, and it surprised me that that part of the experience was ignored.
Rating: Summary: This book is a about two females falling in love Review: In my opinion Annie On My Mind deserves three stars. It's a heart-filled love story between two females. It shows how their families accepted it. Through the trials and tribulations they went through it made me see things from a different light. If I were you I would read it.
