The reason why I would recommend this book to you is because I hated to read before i heard it on the caset during class. Oh I will tell you one thing at the end Phillip says "dis b'dat outragoues cay ,eh, Timoth. Hopr you like the book if you read it. I am 13 from Peggy Heller Elementry but it also has seventh and eighth grade. I am in the eighth grade with the same grades I had at Albert Einstein middle school. oh what ever you do do not mess up the book at all. The only reason why I wrote 12 for age is because i had to. I will be typing more about other stories and I hope you will be reading those ,so, austalaveasta dude.

Summary: The Cay Book Review
Review: Phillip, a boy from Curacao, is excited about the war starting and that his Island is surrounded by battleships. When his mom wants to leave the island with Phillip until it's safer, his dad must stay because of work. When Phillip leaves with his mom, the boat is hit by an enemy torpedo. As the boat is sinking Phillip gets knocked out by a falling beam. He wakes up on a raft with a black man, Timothy, and a cat! Timothy teaches Phillip, blinded from his injury, to catch fish, make a shelter, and survive.

This is an excellent survival adventure book. The author, Theodore Taylor, really develops the character of Timothy well. His voice for this character will have you talking out loud in a Jamaican accent as you read the book. I really enjoyed the parts about the fishing and the hut building. Its very exciting when Phillip learns and discovers things. Like when he climbs the coconut tree or realizes that different leaves make different smoke. The oily smoke gets more attention from planes. When Phillip is blind, he learns to see with his heart not his eyes and not to judge people until you know them. This book published by Random House, Inc. 1540 Broadway New York, New York 10036. Copyright 1969.

Summary: I think...
Review: The Cay is one of the best book I'd ever read. The story is about surviving, change, and especially friendship. This is about an 11 year old boy who was trapped in a little island with a black old man, and a grey cat. On the beginning, Phillip didn't like Timothy because he's black. Phillip's mom always tell him that black people are different from them. But little by little, Phillip started to look at people not on their appearence, but on who they really are.
Everybody, read this book!

Summary: Agi's review
Review: The cay was such a touching book. I actually cried when i read the part about timothy dyeing. I could feel the pain Phillp was going through when he was all alone stranded on the beach. Timothy taught Phillip so many things. I think that Phillip started to understand that it's whats on the inside that counts. Even though Timothy was black he proved to have much knowladge and heart. I think he loved timothty as his own son. In the ending i think that he shouldn't have gotten his eyes fixed, because he really could have made it in the world without his eyes. But then again with his eyesight back he will never take it for granted again.

Summary: Audrey's Review about the cay
Review: The cay is such a touching book i really liked it i especially had more fun listening to it on tape.

I learned soo much things from the book but the book is mainly about a boy named phillip who gets stuck on an island with a total black stranger and when phillip gets blind this stranger(Timothy) helps him to survive because timothy knows that he may die and wants phillip to survive.

Before phillip's mom told him that blacks were very different from the whites but now phillip knows that the only thing that is different is the skin color and all that really matters is the kindness of the heart like timothy showed phillip.
Timothy suffered all the pain just to save phillip from the storm.
if you want to read a very touching story with a lesson read this book!!
The Cay is the best!

Summary: The Cay Book Review
Review: The Cay, an historical fiction novel by Theodore Taylor, is a story about two people stranded on an island where they have to fight for themselves. It takes place in 1942 on an island within a chain of islands called Devil's Mouth. There are two main characters, Phillip and Timothy; one is blind and the other one has to work as his eyes.
Phillip's mother has always told him that black people are different, and now he is stranded on an island with one. Phillip, because of his blindness, needs to trust Timothy to provide for him on the island. The reader will enjoy the way that Phillip's blindness shows him that black and white people are not different and that only their skin color is. Everybody who likes action books should read The Cay!
