Summary: This reading is necessary to understanding prejudice .
Review: As a sixth grade teacher,I found this an absolute must in exposing students to the realities of prejudice and how "blind" rational people can be. When it comes to being intolerant of those who are different from us, children should be taught that prejudice is something they are not born knowing. Educators need to be sensitive to these issues, and since it targets a twelve year old boy it is most suitable for this age group. This story makes for quite a few open-ended discussions regarding respect for parents, survival, and prejudice. Please don't hesitate to share this book with your students.

Review: I thought this story was great because it's based on some true facts that could happen in life. Some people don't take the time to understand little details or understand other peoples' ways of life. That's why, if you ignore the details in this book, you'll miss what the whole book is about! ----"Always judge a person from within their heart, not for what you see on the outside because of their culture."

Review: I think this was the best book I have ever read. It had a lot of action. It was funny. I like the way Timothy talked. I had to read this book for my fifth grade reading class. I am glad my teacher chose this book. I liked it so much that I am reading the seaqual (Timothy of the Cay). I recommend this book to anyone 9 and up. By: Brandon Luse

Review: You just have to read it! No book could have been better. I like the part when Phillip got saved by Timothy. While sailing of the raft, Phillip became blind. It was very realistic. I love this book! I wish that I had the book 'The Cay'. Why would anyone hate the book? Melissa S.
