Rating: Summary: well its O.K...........From a 5th grade girl Review: This is a book that takes place in the devils mouth, where Timothy and a 12 year old named Phillip, were stranded. The Island is one of a series of cay's located in the Carribean. Phillip has been blinded and is predjudice against Timothy who is black but his only way to survive. Slowly Timothy shows Phillip that it dosen't matter what color we are because we all have something to give to the world. Soon Phillip learns that even though he is blind he can still "see" and be self-sufficient .
Rating: Summary: A story with life's lessons throughout! Review: My sixth graders learn to love Timothy and appreciate his gentleness and concern for Phillip. They get into very deep discussions about relationships between different cultures, and I have seen compassion from students I never thought could empathize with others. Great book!! :)
Rating: Summary: "The Cay" was a book that told you how you could survive Review: 6 students from Dora Erickson Elementary School say: Geoff: "I think it was an isparational book." Sarah: "It was cool. It taught us how to survive on a deserted island (cay)." Miriam: "It showed that you can do things when you're blind without the help of others." Mandy: "I thought the book was neat in how it described the chracters and the setting." Anthony: "I think the book was cool!" Sam: "I thought that "The Cay" was a book that made me not want to stop reading."
Rating: Summary: Ummmmmmm..........NO! Review: This book really lacked the tension and the evolving storyline that makes you want to finish a book. I realize that it IS a kids book and that action and suspense might not be in this book's genre, but gimme a break. It was just plain boring. There are better books out there that provide a engaging plot and a higher degree of characterization than "The Cay". Even if it doesn't have death and destruction and things getting blown up it could still be "pleasantly enjoyable". It might of been cooler had it been called...."The Cat". Stew is the best.P.S. Don't read it.
Rating: Summary: SHOWS THE UNDERSTANDING OF HOW TO SURVIVE Review: The book the cay was very inspirational and it showed how important how it is to live and it makes you realize how important it is to be alive and having a caring family and that if you were alone on an island, you should fight to stay alive.
Rating: Summary: At 40 still one of the most memorable stories from my youth. Review: I first bought and read this book in the 5th grade. It made a profound impression on me and it was one of the books that I remember rereading and enjoying each time. Today at age 40, I've read and/or recommended this story to several generations. The Cay is still one of the most timeless and poignant stories I remember. I reread it again this year just for me and loved it.
Rating: Summary: The best book I've read in a long time... Review: Long time no see... book with so strong and powerful meanings... Outstanding... Marvelous... Excellent Choice... Foolish to refuse... It just pulls you in.
