Summary: Good morals, great adventure
Review: I respect this book not only for its adventure, but for the friendship that formed between two very different people. Phillip, the child, was taught to keep clear of those "negros." He lived in an environment in which people like Timothy were as much a part of the community as he was.

Timothy was a big man with a bigger heart. He loved his cat, and all but tolerated the spoiled little white boy. I was glad to see how Timothy befriended Phillip and took him under his wing.

This is a great book for any age. I really felt it was too short, and I didn't want it to end so quickly. It's a great heartwarming story with believable characters.

I also found the conflict between the white people and the native islanders very plausible. It is beautifully written, and well thought out. It's a quick read, so take in every word like it's the last.

Summary: Good theme masks internal lack of logic
Review: Why is that so often, we accept plot points and narrativefracture in novels for young people that we would never accept innovels for ourselves as adults? The Cay is a perfect case in point. Author Taylor goes at his book with a pure heart, and the first two thirds crackle. It is a poignant moment when the boy Phillip goes blind, and has to face his existence on the island with yet another obstacle. Then, Taylor brings the internal logic of his world crashing down--does anyone else care about this but me? Here's what happens: there's a huge storm on the island, a massive hurricane. Waves sweep up the palm trees, in fact. But when the storm is over, and Phillip is left alone, he is still able to navigate his way around the island as if nothing had ever happened. Huh? In the storm, everything would have been displaced, moved, destroyed--he is like a blind person in a forty-acre room with thousands of pieces of furniture all rearranged overnight. Yet, the book just cruises on as if this never took place. Right there, the book came to a crashing stop for me. I won't tolerate this kind of plotting in a book for myself; I won't tolerate it in a book for my kids.

Summary: The Cay is a Treasure!
Review: I read this book when I was kid, now I am 25, and I have just recently ordered it to add to my hardback collection- This book is so so amazing! I have never forgotten this story and have read it more than twice! The message is powerful, I think it even shaped my oppinions about the importance of having friends of all backgrounds. And when Phillip learns that his parents were wrong in thier beliefs about "negros" that is a valuable lesson to learn-that you must open your eyes and be open to learning for yourself and accept other peoples differences. The adventure aspect of this story is also wonderful, and through the hardships Phillip faced I pictured the island so beautiful, I was sad to see him leave. And Timothy is like everyone's grandfather they wish they had...Obstinate, wise and strong. A character that I will never forget.

Summary: A review on a book I read in class
Review: A book about two different people that are two diffrent colors that learn how to work togeather. I think that the main theme in the book, The Cay is about Race. It had a white boy named Phillip and a black man named Timothy. They're town had two sides, one for blacks and the other for whites. When the Germans bomb their small island off the coast of Venezuela they decide to leave the island. When the boat that they are getting away with is bombed too, it sinks and as many people get on to the rafts as they can. Phillip and his mother are separated and Phillip is on a raft with a Black man named Timothy and they don't have a clue on where they are. When Phillip goes blind it makes everything worse. The two people find a small island and decide to stay there until someone finds them. Timothy builds a small hut made if grass and sticks. He can't do everything so he asks Phillip to make the mats for sleeping on. Phillip is so angry, he can't see much less make something and throws it at him. That night Phillip is angry because he has to sleep on the dirt. In the morning Timothy helped him make the mats so that night they would have mats to sleep on. When Timothy began to spell the word "HELP" He began to mutter how it would be spelled. He asked Phillip how it would be spelled and Phillip got up and grabbed the stick and wrote it in the sand. Then he said" Now all you have to do is put the rocks over the letters" After that Timothy goes out to the beach and got swept away by the tide. Then Phillip goes out to see where he is and he finds him. He is taking deep breaths and can't even sit up. When he dies that night and Phillip is alone, by himself, and on an island with a cat. When a helicopter spots him and he is brought to safety (his parents) but, before he is, he says good-bye to his friend, Timothy. He gets home and his parents are crying they are so happy. Phillip gets glasses and can see again. When ever he sees another black person he asks them," Have you heard of a man named Timothy?" Some people say yes and others said no. That is my Summary of my favorite parts. It doesn't go into my life at all but I think they learned about respect, meaning respecting other each other's color. They also learned about how to work and get along together. That is what I think about The Cay.

Review: Everyone loves to sit down and read a great book. I've just read an excellent book called "The Cay." This adventurous and thrilling novel about two different worlds joined together, written by Theordore Taylor. Several characters apply in this fictional story. The two main characters in the story are Phillip Enright and Timothy. Other characters in this story are Phillip Enright(father), Grace Enright, Henrik Van Bouen, and Stew Cat. This book has a total 171 pages. The actual story is 137 pages, and Connections is 34 pages. "The Cay" takes place during World War II, and the German submarines have attacked the island of Curacao, the island the Enright's were staying at. Grace Enright gets caught up in the danger, she decides to leave Curacao with her son Phillip. They leave, but the Germans fired a missile to the ship Phillip and his mother were on to return to the United States. Soon after, Phillip and his mother were separated from the blast. Phillip's mother was rescued by the people, but Phillip was taken by a black Negro names Timothy and a cat named Stew Cat. Being very afraid, Phillip has no idea what to do since his mother didn't like people who were a different race than what she was. Timothy was from around where they were, and had an accent from the islands. Soon, Phillip and Timothy come to where they could only see ocean on all sides of them. A couple days have past away and they still haven't spotted land. After sailing a long way, Timothy spots land and decides to stay on the cay. During the stay on the cay, Phillip and Timothy go through tons of physical and emotional changes. So what will happen to Timothy and Phillip? Will they be rescued from the little cay or will be stranded on the island that's not even on the map? Well...that was my summary of "The Cay." I think it's an excellent book to read, and I give this piece 5 stars. I recommend this book to not only one age group, but for adults too. But don't take my word for it...read it yourself.

Review: The Cay is a great book. I really enjoyed the story. It is about a eleven year old boy who is handicapped with an old man Timothy stranded on an island. Timothy and Phillip learn to work together to stay alive, and Phillip's life changes forever to the head. His struggle to survive depends on Timothy. The Cay is a book that tries to teach the readers many things that gives great meaning. I would like to recommend this book to all the readers out there.
