Rating: Summary: Great! Review: This book was excellent! I recommend it to everyone!
Rating: Summary: A Great Book Review: 13 year old Charlotte Doyle is a proper english girl. On her way on the ship the Seahawk, she overcomes many challenges as her only friend 'dies'. She is forced to follow her heart or be the girl that she once wanted. I recomend this book to EVERYONE. Avi captured her emotions and actions perfectly!
Rating: Summary: What a FABULOUS book! Review: This GREAT book is about a fifteen year-old girl alone on a vicious ship with a blood thirsty captain. Her name is Charlotte Doyle. When her sailor friend, Zachariah, is whipped to death by the captain, she becomes infuriated and hurts the captain as well. He then refuses a friendship with her. She begs the crew's forgiveness because she revealed their plan to mutiny. If you want to learn more you must read this book. As each chapter ended I couldn't wait to read the next! I recommend this book for adults and children alike (but an adult should read it to the child). I am a ten year-old girl and I liked this book!
Rating: Summary: Everyone will love this book! Review: I read this book way back in fourth grade, but to this day it remains one of the best I have ever read. The fact that it is written as a children/young adult level does not take away the genius of it. It is startlingly suspenseful, and wonderfully creative. I actually cried when I was through with it. With all the books I've read in my life, modern, classics, whatever, this one stays at the higher end of my all-time Top Ten.
Rating: Summary: This is a GREAT book for all! Review: I first read this book at the beginning of 6th grade when Isawanother girl in my class reading it. She always seemed to bereading the most interesting books, and the cover illustration looked good too, so I checked it out from the library. THE TRUE CONFESSIONS OF CHARLOTTE DOYLE is an amazing, spellbinding novel that has lead me to seek out further works of Avi. I have bought my own copy of CHARLOTTE DOYLE and reread it at least every year or so. It is incredible still and I love it! This year, my Reading Workshop teacher told us to choose a book we've already read to booktalk on. Needless to say, I chose CHARLOTTE DOYLE! . . . READ THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: Adults Will Love it Too Review: I am 23 years old and read this book for a children's literature course. I was so enthralled that I could hardly wait to see what happened next. The story was very suspenseful and full of adventure, yet not so much that it seemed unrealistic. The best part was that the traditional role of the hero at sea was not only a girl, but a prim and proper girl (dare I say snobbish?) who learns that social class and education are not really important when it comes to friends.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Novel Review: "The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle" was an awesome book for many different reasons. I felt like I really knew the characters in this story and that is what I like in books. The story was so real, yet so unbelieveable. It was the kind of book that I never wanted to put down and I was in suspense the whole time. I gave it 5 stars because I have never read a book this good!
Rating: Summary: The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle Review: "This five star book was about a thirteen year-old girl in 1832 accused of murder, bought to trial and found guilty"
Rating: Summary: Not good for ALL ages or even young adults Review: I first read this book when I was 9 or 10 in 4th or 5th grade and enjoyed it. Then when I was in 6th grade I read it again for a report since I knew about it already and could read it much quicker (the book is only about 300 something pages, fairly large type.)When I presented my book report on it my teacher told my class that we would have to read The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle over the summer and be tested on it in 7th grade. Anyway, about the book. While I enjoyed it when I was a few years younger, it was extremely dull and boring when I was a few older, and not just because I had read it so many times. It does not include the promised 'adventure on the high seas', nor any excitement. The characters are a bit too unrealistic in their manners. Ex: The sailors except a young high status girl into their crew without much of a fight. I personally recommend this book for those who can't stand blood, gore, or terribly descriptive gruesome murders, but still want some adventure. So mainly girls (since it is about a girl's adventure and they can understand it more than boys can) age 8-12 will enjoy it, though the younger readers will not understand some of the elements, and the older ones might find like I did, dull and very low-key excitement. If you want some good historical fiction I suggest you read The Memoirs of Cleopatra (which is for adults).
Rating: Summary: The Best Book Ever Review: I read this book a few years ago and when I say this title come up my heart jumped. This was one of the best books I have ever read. I recommend it highly to anyone who enjoys mystery and adventure. Read On!
