Summary: I thought it was pretty darn good
Review: I thought that this book was just as good as the rest of them. Considering I have read all three books a thousand times each (no joke) this book i couldn't put down. I read this book in one day, and after i finished reading it, I read it again! I loved the way Ms. Pierce put emotions into the characters. I felt the way they did when they felt sad, mad and happy. I can't name my favorite part in the book because I don't really have one, but trust me, when you get this book (and you better get this book) you won't want to put it down either.

Summary: Very Nice
Review: I liked this book a LOT better than the other two. I almost stopped reading them because Kel was a bore in the first two. But this is truly a great book. Although I didn't like that the group broke up. They were such a team! I was also VERY upset that Neal and Kel didn't finally hook-up. I thought that would happen for sure. I think Cleon did too. Maybe that's why he all of a sudden made a big move. I mean, I could remember when he was all snotty to her! Oh, but just as soon as she gets BREASTS he suddenly falls in love with her! What a load of CRAP! Neal was always her friend. Then she had this HUMONGOUS crush on him, then it just... VANISHED?!?! Oh, well things are the way they are. So I've just kind of replaces Neal with Cleon. I mean I do like him now that she's finally INTRODUCED HIM! I mean, she hardly mentioned him before this! Oh, well.
I was very happy about Buri and Raoul. They're perfect for each other. It was really funny how it all came out, too. They hear Kel in trouble and they burst out dressed in blankets! Hillarious! They're really cute together. And I guess you could say that Kel Cleon make each other a little more interesting.

Summary: A pretty solid book, but...
Review: Well, I enjoyed it, but definately not so much as the first two. Kel really does not change much between the ages of ten and eighteen, which is a little odd. I'm not a huge Alanna fan (I prefer Circle and Daine) but at least she started out as the slightly naive, quick-tempered kid and grew into a real adult. Kel has the relationship here that I might have expected at the age of Squire (although I'm glad that book didn't get ruined with it).

It seems to be as if Tammy is actually forcing herself (probably unconciously) away from the Neal path. I mean, sure it doesn't have to work out between them, but for Kel to suddenly drop that big, big crush she had on him? She's right. she's fickle. Which is odd too, because she seemed like a pretty reliable, steady character before.

I hate Cleaon! I don't know what it is. Usually I like all the characters Tammy means to be likable, but I like Joren more than this guy! He's so boring, and what's more, he struggles to stay 3-d. Kel is "cool as a lake on a summers day" most of the time anyway. All we need is another outwardly boring character (and NO I do not think Kel is boring - we know what's going on inside her head). I liked the contrast of Neal's impetuous immaturity. They made a good match in terms of friends, and I hope that Tammy can convince me he's not the man for Kel in the last book.

One more thing on that subject: why does everyone assume KEl's going to end up with him because they're "going out" now? By Tammy's history, Kel's going to have some more experience of love - and apparently Tammy's not going to do something in the last book she's always done before (in Tortall). My guess is that Kel won't settle down with a partner.

Anyway, I would advise you to read the book, for all it's low rating. It isn;t as good as the other two, but it's still hugely enjoyable, and pulls you through to a satisfying, if hardly surprising conclusion. After all, with the fourth book called LAdy Knight, there isn't much mystery over whether Kel fails or passes her ordeal, is there?

Summary: I'm sure I will love this book.I have loved all the rest
Review: I haven't read this whole book yet, but Tamora Pierce has done a very good job writing the book sof this series and of all the others. THe characters seem so real, and it isn't liek some books where the world is in danger and a lone girl has to safe it or something like that.It is about growing up and accomplishing your goals, and is also entertaining and full of lessons.I recommend this book and the others having to do with Alanna and Daine to anyone and everyone.

Summary: a fantastic fantasy
Review: i absolutely loved this book! it begins with kel, the heroine of the series, as a squire. however, she doesn't have a knight-master. she finally gets an offer from raoul of goldenlake, a hero of tortall. he is almost instantly called to a centaur attack, and kel comes with him. although she is put in a boring position, she turns into a hero when she rescues a griffin and kills a centaur. i wont spoil the rest of the story by telling you, but i encourage any fantasy lover to read it.

Summary: What happened?
Review: Well, I bet I'm going to get a ton of complaints about this, but I didn't like the book that much at all. Kel doesn't have a consistent enemy to fight against...Joren crops up occasionally during the book and Kel has him taken off her hands by outside means. Many of the issues in the book (i.e sexism, class divide, sex) are cliched and tell me nothing new. Kel doesn't have half as many things to struggle against (unlike Alanna) and her character isn't interesting enough to sustain my interest. Oh, and the gift giver thing was boring. Everyone I knew thought it was ALanna, and it was. Wow. Sorry, but this book is far too issues-driven. I hope Lady Knight will be better! Oh, but I did like the way Kel had several different crushes to contend with, the trial was good, and I liked the way she confronted the Chamber as it built up to her final confrontation with it.

Summary: A wonderful Pierce book
Review: This book is terrific. However, do not expect the magical exploits of Song of the Lioness or The Immortals. Protector of the Small draws its thrills from more prosaic sources: tournaments, life at the Palace, Kel's burgeoning romance.

Squire tells of a new chapter in Kel's life: she is squired to a knight and embarking on a life of tournaments and battles. She sees less of her friends, but is making for herself a new place. Many things happent that I won't mention, because I don't want to give out spoilers. I highly reccommend this book along with everything else Pierce has written, and cannot wait for Lady Knight!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Pierce fans will not be disappointed
Review: If you have read the first two books in this series (Protector of the Small), you already know what you are in for, and you will be happy to get this book! Fans of Tamora Pierce's other work will like this series as well. It has it all: feminist adventurer overcoming adversity and sexism, delightful magic, interesting characters, and a story that's hard to put down.

Summary: have liked her earlier books, but . . .
Review: I really like all of Tamora Pierce's books except this one. It seems all very rushed, unlike 'In the Hand of the Goddess', which describes Alanna's years as a squire. I think a few parts of the book are not necessary and the whole thing could have been a bit less tedious if she'd spent a bit more time on it. However, I recommend this to go and get from your local library in case 'Lady Knight' turns out to be better. It's good if you are a slower reader though. I think I may read a bit too fast. Read it before you decide whether you want to buy it, though.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: a reread for sure
Review: i have read this book a total of 13 times and am yet to get tired of it. tamora pierce introduces new characters and their lives to design a web of thoughts and emotions. resembling pullmans' golden compass in its page number of 399 and its sense of wry humor. read it!
