Summary: Awesome Book
Review: Tamora Pierce is one of my favorite authors, and I love all of her Tortall books. This is no exception. I was a little disappointed to browse through the other reviews and see all the Cleon-bashing. Personally, I like Cleon just as much if not better than Neal. And honestly, you could tell that Cleon was starting to like her in the last book. My absolute favorite part of the book is Raoul though! He's been my favorite ever since that scene in Alanna: The First Adventure where they fight about her not going swimming. I saw a few readers complain about the romance. Most of these seemed to be younger readers (12?). I was about that age, maybe younger, when I first read her Song of the Lioness Quartet. While I don't remember being particularly bothered by the romantic bits, I do say that they become much more enjoyable as I get older. I'm 17 now, and it's weird to read about characters who are younger than me, but Tamora Pierce writes her stories so all ages can enjoy them.

Summary: An excellent Series
Review: This is the thrid novel in the Protector of the Small quartet and had a lot more to offer than the other two books. There was more going on, including a theme of love that had yet to be seen. If you have read the other two books than you must surely have grown with Keladry and come to love her. As a heroine it is great to see a girl who is not talented in anything but hard work. She is neither beuatiful (except in personality which shines through once you get to know her) nor magic and this is what makes her so appealing. She actually has to work hard. Without the help of a God. By getting up early and training beyond what anyone else did she became the best squire there, but the fact that she is still a girl makes it hard for her to find anyone willing to be her knight master.

This is a test for Keladry in more ways than one as her final training to become a knight is tested by the Chamber of the Ordeal.

I absolutley love Tamora Pirce and this is one of my favourite books in this series - a must read if you like knights and fantasy. Or even if you don't you should give this series a try!

Summary: Untitled
Review: Kel has turned into a likeable yet grim and determined teenager in service to Lord Raoul of Goldenlake. As usual, there are her fellow squires' ill-fated quests for unattainable women (such as Yamani ladies) which add humor to the book, and her mysterious gift-giver. Kel goes off to war, a refreshing break from palace life. An addition to the story, which is uncalled for, is the calm horse to go with Peachblossom the sweet, mellow, dainty, obedient pony. The book has more romance than need be, but otherwise it is very good.

Summary: Not how love should be... Besides that GREAT!
Review: OK, I think this book is great and that's why I gave it 5 stars, the one thing I didn't like about it, and don't really like about any Tamora Pierce books (even though they're my faves) is the whole "bed a man" thing. I mean she seems to hardly know Cleon when they fall in love, a kiss and then she's head over heals- that's not how love should be, and I don't believe in premarital sex either (even though they don't do it in this book, only talk about it). Besides that, great book.
Man, I really don't like the way I started this review, I make it sound like I hate this book which isn't true at all. It's a real page turner and is very hard to put down. I love how it has the index in the back becuz there's soooooooooooo many names to remember.
Tamora Pierce is a great fantasy/romance writer although I say she could have made this one more down-to-earth (what happened to Neal!?). Personally I like the Protector of the Small books better than the Alanna books, great, highly suggested;)

Summary: This is a GREAT book but what's up with Cleon?!
Review: This is one of the weirdest but best of the Tamora books so far. The only problem is Kel falls in love with practically every guy she sees. She is now out of love with Neal which is really bad! She now finds out Cleon loves her and she "loves" him. I don't think she does. Well the story otherwise is basically about Kel and she is now a squire. She has a great night to serve, Raoul. Even if she hoped Alana would take her, she didn't, instead she took Neal and this makes Kel really mad. The whole book is really good and Daine comes back in the book for a while. You have to read this book if you liked the other two!

Summary: Great book!
Review: Great book...you've GOT to read it if you like Tamora Pierce books. One of the best...no, Alanna was better, but Kel sure is cool!

Summary: Amazing!
Review: Keladry of Mindelan, the first girl to serve openly as a page and squire in the realm of Tortall, is in her squire years. When taken on by Lord Raoul of Goldenlake and Malorie's Peak, who is the Knight Commander of the King's Own (the 300-man protection force of the realm), Kel quickly learns the many perspectives of battle. She aquires a baby griffin, in addition to her dog, Jump, and a fifty-odd flock of sparrows. An astonising kiss at Midwinter leads up to her confusing romance with Cleon of Kennan. Conservative challengers quickly mount to a admirable jousting record. But will she pass the final test to be a knight: going into the Chamber of the Ordeal?

This was the kind of book I truly couldn't put down all the way through. I'd like to mention Tamora Pierce's wonderful humor, and the fact that she intertwined the story plots of different charecters into one so well. Kel's crushes, which slowly grow into an unlikely romance (Cleon? Who would see that coming?)add a nicely normal pre-teen element to Kel's mostly abnormal world. Some may think Cleon was a big change, and that it was annoying how Kel was "hopelessly fickle" (which she was), but surely no one hasn't had many crushes throughout school, especially at her age. The likeable charecters (Raoul, Daine, Lalasa, ect;) are well set apart from the dislikeable ones (Joren, Garvey, Ansil of Groten) with a few in the middle, like Lord Wyldon and Duke Turomot, to connect them. Though I did think Kel's admiration of Lady Alanna was a tiny bit overdone. But nonetheless, Kel's sensible, determined nature makes her a great role model for pre-teen and teen girls.

Summary: Great Book
Review: Of all the Keladry books, I think this one was my favorite. With characters from the earlier Alanna series, I found this one of Tamora Pierce's best reads yets. I enjoyed the complicated plots, even if I didn't like the romances so much. (Neal is MUCH better...) This is definitly a book to own. I've read mine so many times it's falling apart. A Great read.

Summary: Good book
Review: I, personally, have tended to find Ms. Pierce's quartets are particurally weak once the get to the third book, then they pick themselves up for the end. I enjoyed this book alot though, finally a book whose lead charactor has no magical abilities!
Reading through others reviews of this book I was irked by several peoples complaintes about her not liking Neal anymore. I belive Ms. Pierce's decison is just fine, and it was well handeled. I wouldn't belive it if someone honestly said that they didn't fall in and out of crushes very abruptly as teenagers. Just because her affections are concentrated on a person besides Neal doesn't make the book bad. As for not seeing Neal as often, thats ok. The story is told from what Kels sees and thinks, and she just isn't seeing, or thinking, about Neal
I am greatly looking forward to seeing what Ms. Pierce comes up with next.

Summary: Wow
Review: Keladry really opened up in this book. Before, even though she was a girl, she may as well have been a boy for all the *girl* things she thought of, but in this book, we see how being a lady knight has advantages--something rarely hinted at in this series. Keladry has a compassion towards others that is rarely seen in other knights and an intuitive sense of romance in Raoul's, Roald's, and Neal's relationships, both signs of a strong female intellect that is curiously refreshing. The characters are spectacular, the setting is magnificient, and the *thing* with Roald and Buri is very, very funny, but somehow Keladry and Cleon don't seem right for one another. I wonder if this will change? I know that Ms. Pierce often leaves the resolution of romances until the last minute, so I'll keep faith, but I really hope that Kel doesn't hook up with Cleon. That would be just too weird.
