Rating: Summary: Cool! Review: I absoulutely loved this book! When I first started reading Page, I thought this book would be very boring. I thought it was boring for the first 4 chapters, but I started liking it more after that. Page always said about her life and everything and no learning about knight school. My favorite chapter in the book was the second to last chapter, The Kraken. I think it was sad how she had to leave the Kings Own. They were all so nice to her. The romance between Kel and Cleon was not my favorite, unlike everyone else. All other customers love those parts. I think they are okay. If you like The Song of the Lioness and The Immortals, you will definetly like this book.
Rating: Summary: Loyal since Alanna Review: When I was 12, I got a hold of the Alanna series and have read everything Tamora Pierce has written since...however, I mourn the lack of charm in the Protector of the Small series as her previous others have possessed. Now, being 20, I find the plot humorous, delightful and a light reading, but it can never add up. I believe Pierce's work is going downhill when it comes to seriousness and ability to transport the reader into the plot. One does not see the same maturation in character from First Test to Lady Knight compared to Alanna, the first adventure to Lioness Rampant. Still a fan, but not as impressed.
Rating: Summary: Squire, an excelant book! Review: This is the third book in the Protector of the Small series. In it, Kel has passed the big examinations, and has become a squire, join her as she captures bandits and fights immortals with the Kings Own. A great read!
Rating: Summary: Best Book in the Series! Review: I think that this is the best book in the series Protector of the Small! Now a squire Kel's night-master is Raoul of Goldenlake. She joins the King's Own where they stop raiding parties, kill centaurs, and so on. Having to care for a griffin Kel has fun with the Own. There isn't quite as much action as in Song of the Lioness but it is still a great read. There are some of the same characters from Song of the Lioness and The Immortals series though they are not focused on besides Raoul of Goldenlake. Girls ages 11 and up shouldread this book though you should read her other Tortall series first!
Rating: Summary: The best book in the series! Review: I wish I could give this book more than five stars. I am a huge fan of Tamora Pierce and the Tortall books,...P>In my opinion the Protector of the Small series is the best of the Tortall books. I also found that SQUIRE is the best book in the series - it's full of humor, battle, and yes, the book even contains romance! As Kel begins her journey as a squire, she spends time battling foes, learning about being a knight, and even makes some new friends. A little romance is also included. This is the best book in the series - it is a must read! However, if you are new to the Tortall books, I advise you read the Alanna and Daine books first, for history and background.
Rating: Summary: the magic is back! Review: When I was younger, I fell in love with Pierce's book _Alanna:_The_First_Adventure_. After the third book of the Alanna series, I have sought that magic in her writing since. I have finally found it in _Squire_. I have enjoyed her intervening books, but I never lost myself in them. There is depth here and the best part was that for the most part it was not predictable. Of course, we all know that she will be a knight by the end, but the intermediate steps were a mystery and a joy to live through.
Rating: Summary: Warning: Semi-spoilers ahead Review: The one thing I didn't like about this book was the Griffin/Gryphon. I had to get that out of my system. When I reread this book (which I do as regularly as possible) I skip every section where the griffin appears. The thing gets on my nerves. It's too much of a sideline, and unless Pierce was going to get a Skysong thing going (See 'The Immortals'), I don't see the point of it. This aside, I like this book. Kel is my favourite Pierce heroine by far. She has 'spunk' as middle aged marketing employees would say. She develops and grows and unfolds before our very eyes. Neal and Dom are mah babies. I love them, adore them, etc etc. The romance with Cleon is very sweet. Lacking in substance, yes. Obviously not going to last, yes. But could this not be a reflection of some real life romances? However, easily the thing which delights me most about this book is one of the asides. My fave Pierce character (I said HEROINE before. Weren't you listening?) Ms Buriram Tourakom, soon to be of Goldenlake and Malorie's Peak (not so much a hint as a slap in the face) features in an... interesting situation involving Raoul, a knife, a blanket and a 'loincloth'. Hurrah for Buri. The prophesy came true (see 'Lioness Rampant') A fantastic book overall. One of my favourite by Pierce.
Rating: Summary: Squire Review: I thought this book was an excellent book by Tamora Pierce! It follows her quartets of the Kingdom Tortall. It is the third in the series Protector of the Small, with its heroine Keladry, training to be the second (only to Alanna) but the first known, knight. This book is when she is a squire, not to who she hoped, Lady Alanna but to Lord Raoul. He leads a band which Kel joins and becomes a strong warrior. After training she goes to do fights with the others at this base and she sees Cleon again, and they try to make a romance. And there she meets her former Yamani playmate, Shinkokami, betrothed to Prince Roald, from the Yamani Islands where Kel used to live with her family. The characters from Tamora Pierce's other books are in it as well such as Raoul, Jonathan, Thayet, Daine, Alanna, George and many others. I thought that book added to the many series' of Tortall and is almost the end of the saga.
Rating: Summary: My view of Squire Review: I love this book because there is always something going on. It's wonderful not being board. My personal favorite part is when Kel jousts. The discription is excellent. I would recomend this book to any of my friends. Thats all from me but don't take my word for it read it yourself.
Rating: Summary: Best of the series Review: My fav book of Tamora's. This book is very groovy man! In this book, Kel becomes a squire and is hired on and supported by the Knight Commander of the King's own (a group of soldiers). This man is named Raoul, and he is a cool dude. She jousts, or tilts, with her aged headmaster several times, and gets floor every time, she tends to a baby griffin (a tedious job at the best of times), and in the thick of all this, she start to have a relationship with one of her classmates. At the end of the book, she faces the dreaded Ordeal. This ordeal will test her ability to be a knight. I won't tell you whether she passes it or not, but the title of the next book might give you a hint or two, as it is called "Lady Knight". Trevor
