Review: This is the best book.The whole Prydain novels are exclellent and this book wraps it up very well. Summary: A fitting conclusion to the best series of books!
Review: I felt that The High King is a wonderful book! And I highly suggest those who wish to read it, begin first with the beginning of the series. Although, if they read The High King first, it will be great, but if The Prydain Chronicles are read in order, it will have an even greater impact on the reader. A fitting ending to this series, and a well deserving winner of The Newbery Award. Summary: Beautiful and enlightening!
Review: The High King is one of the few books that I never want to have end. The personality of each character is drawn out so carefully and with such genius as to leave the reader spellbound. The ideals I've learned from this book are even more beautiful and pure.
This book came to me as a children's book, but it can be enjoyed by all ages. This is much more than a fantasy novel. Two Thumbs Up!!

the thrilling conclusion. As Taran discovered more about himself in "Taran Wanderer", the mood was being set for the ultimate showdown between the forces of good and evil. In the end, a sense of absolute

Review: This book is capable of making you cry tears of frustration and then joy at the stirring and positive windup. It reinforces the much needed belief that courage, morality and kindness are so well regarded by the supernatural world that a child may triumph in the world of men. Have your child read it before it's too late.Actually, you should first read the first four books of the series: The Book of Three, The Black Cauldron, The Castle of Llyr, Taran Wanderer (preferably in that order)

is a great fantasy with action, humor, and some romance. This is the fifth book in the series, the Prydain Chronicles.
The other books are: The Book of Three, The Black Cauldron, The Castle of Llyr, and Taran Wanderer.
Each book is equally as good as this one.
Lloyd Alexander has one several awards and honorable mentions
for this series.

Summary: A New Idea, An Excellent Book
Review: This book, The High King, by Lloyd Alexander, the 5th and last book of the "Prydain" series, is filled with action and suspense. The first four books lead up to this one with Taran, Assistant Pig Keeper, gaining friends, courage and manhood. Now Taran and his friends put everything at risk to save Prydain, the mystical kingdom they live in. Arawn, Death Lord, steals the most powerful weapon in Prydain, "Dyrnwyn", a flaming sword. Now the valiant men in Prydain must fight to get it back. The High King is an excellent book because of the action and suspense. There are 4 major battles in the book. It also shows the hardships away from the battlefield Taran and his friends encounter. Love, personal deaths, and other things are twirled in with the main action theme. Lloyd Alexander also tosses magic into the cauldron, enhancing the story greatly. The magic makes it so much more mystical. In addition, having it in a medieval setting makes the battles less just shooting and more strategy. It also has large type and is easy to read. * Some people may not agree with my opinion of the book, mainly because it is gory. But it is not just blood but action. The gore is necessary because it comes from deathless warriors, who are a huge factor in the book. Without them, the book would not be as good. When you read it. You will find that The High King is an excellent book, with much action.*In the Yearling edition of the book.

Review: Others have summed up how good this book, and indeed, the whole Chronicles of Pyrdain series is -- I heartily agree. What I would like to see is the series translated into film. It would be marvelous -- kind of like a combination of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings!
