Summary: Book of Shadows
Review: I picked up this book in the public library, mainly becuase I saw my friend's name pressed into the front cover of it, and I am glad that I did. This book is an amazing book for anyone who wants to learn more about wicca, but in a fictional way. I am not doing wicca, but this book was amazing. It is about a girl who decides to try wicca after meeting a new boy in school that is into wicca. She goes through a lot of things that I am not going to say, since I don't want to give it away. Really, you should read this book if you are at all interested in wicca. Once you read it, you will want to read the next book, and the next! I can't wait until I get the fourth book!!

Summary: Sometimes confusing, but still good
Review: Morgan and her friends are invited to participate in a Wiccan ritual. What they experience amazes them all, but Morgan has more in store for her than she can even imagine. Use of some journal entries makes the story confusing because you are not able to figure out whose story they are telling. Tiernan leaves the story wide open for several books to come.

Summary: WOW!
Review: I haven't gotten this involved in a book in years! When I finished the book, I had to run back out to the book store to pick up the next book in the series. Cate Tiernan is a great writer who pulls the reader into the magickal world of Morgan, an ordinary teenaged girl discovering witchcraft. The reader can't help but connect with Morgan who, like many other girls her age, is dealing with issues such as school, boys, family, peers, and her own self-esteem. She even gets into Wicca after a boy that she has a crush on asks her to come to "a party" that ended up becoming a Wiccan celebration for Mabon. Warning though, for those of you out there looking for a book that accurately describes Wicca and witchcraft, this is not it.

Summary: A great start to a promising series.......
Review: Morgan has always been in the shadow of her best friend Bree. But when new student Cal Blaire comes to Widow's Vale High, he sees something in Morgan that even she can't see. Cal is a witch, a blood witch actually. Since he left his old coven behind when he moved to Widow's Vale, he is looking for members to help him form a new one. Morgan, Bree, and some of their other friends join Cal in a ritual, and immediately get drawn in to the world of Wicca. As the group begins to explore the rich history of Wicca, Morgan begins to see things in a new way. Each time she goes to circle something new and amazing happens. In addition to this, she begins to feel drawn more and more to Cal, despite her best friend Bree's attempts to become involved romantically with Cal. Morgan's troubles do not end there though. Her parents eventually find out about her interest in Wicca and forbid her to continue her involvement with it. Ignoring her parents' directive, Morgan continues to be a member of Cal's group. But when Bree tells her to leave because she is drawing Cal away from Bree, Morgan is at a lost at what to do.

I greatly enjoyed the first book in the Sweep series. The characters were both intriguing and real. The author did a wonderful job of establishing relationships between the characters and building tension in those relationships. Like the Circle of Three books, this novel does not depict Wicca in a "scary" way. Highly recommended.

Summary: More adults should read this
Review: As a mid-twenties practising Witch, I was actually on a train journey to meet my Grove when I read this. Fortunately, the train was delayed - and I was caught.

Cate Tiernan writes with great emotion and simply draws you in. Morgan's experiences are poignant and dealt with realistically, whilst keeping to an accurate portrayal of Wicca - enough to go on if you're interested, but designed to make you go out and find information, not just dash to the nearest field and recite a handy spell!

I have already ordered pt 2 - read this before any Ravenwolf or Point Horror, it's excellent.

Summary: An entertaining new Series
Review: Morgan has never really heard that much about Wicca until she meets Cal, a male witch who she finds herself strangely drawn to it. She has so many questions that she needs answered. Like what is wicca about? And why dose she has these strange reactions to circles? She wants to learn, but even more she wants Cal. Unfortunatly her much prettier friend Bree has a crush on him, amd she's willing to to anything to get him. Including crush their friendship.

Just like the Circle of Three series, the Sweep series provides a more realiztic veiw of wicca. Morgan is easy to relate to and the whole book is a great source of information on wicca. If you liked the Circle of Three series and the Daughters of the Moon series you'll love this one.

Summary: You will lose yourself in this book!
Review: I'm in my thirties and seldom pick up young adult novels, but this one is terrific!

Sixteen year-old Morgan is smitten when Cal, who is gorgeous AND nice, transfers to her school. When he throws a party in a huge field that September, everybody goes. Around the campfire, he asks them to join him in a Wiccan thanksgiving ritual. Reactions range from curiosity to fear.

Most depart -- something Cal accepts good-naturedly. Others stay out of complex motivations. Some are curious about Wicca. Some are attracted to others present and want to stay near them. And some, like Morgan, have both motivations.

Morgan and her friends and Cal form a coven and study Wicca. Tension grows as both Morgan and her glamorous best friend Bree find themselves attracted to Cal. Morgan tries to keep her feelings to herself and maintain her friendships. But Cal seems to prefer her to anyone. Then Morgan's parents forbid her to study Wicca.

However, she has just found out about the two types of witches: your everyday folk who just start studying it, and "blood-witches" who are descended from Seven Great Clans and are genetically gifted with psychic powers. Could Morgan be a blood-witch?

Morgan is a wonderful character with a wry and compassionate sense of humor. Her parents seem caring individuals trying to do the right thing. This is a great beginning to a series. Unlike the similar, but shallow, Witches Night Out by Silver Ravenwolf, it has real emotional power.
