Rating: Summary: One of the Best Books in the Best Series Review: When I first saw this book, I was a little afraid to pick it up. It was by an unknown author and was about a different type of magic. But I picked it up and read the first pages and I was hooked. This book is about wicca, which is something I had never heard of. While the sweep series doesn't give the absolute truth about wicca, it does give you a general overview of what wicca is about, magick, love, nature... just to name a few. This book is such a great book and is followed by a wonderful series. The characters are so well thought up and have very interesting personalities. Ms. Tiernan gave very graphic descriptions of the characters and of Widow's Vale, so that you can just close your eyes and picture it. Morgan, the main character, is what seems like an average girl. She is 16, doesn't have a boyfriend, is smart and like most of us isn't the most stunning and beautiful person in her class. In the book she begins to find wicca coming into her life. As she discovers the magick within her, the relationships around her and with her grow and blossom. She has to find alot of answers for alot of questions that she begins to think up about wicca and about her life. As things heat up in the book, you get to see who each character really is, inside and out. I would reccomend this book to anyone that has an interest in magic(k), wicca, love, or just a really good book. This book and this series are truly a must buy.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Book ! Review: In this first book from the series Sweep, I needed to know the rest ! This book is amazing, you learn many things about Wicca and Morgan, the main character isn't what she seems to be. Through the book, we start to learn that Morgan is a witch and she is desperately in love with Cal, a newcomer in Widow's Vale. I really recommend this great book, and in this continous series, you can't stop reading, its gets much better in book 2, as well a 3, which keep you hanging!
Rating: Summary: One Word: Wow. Review: This is an EXCELLENT book! One of my very favorites! I was trying to find a good magical-type (in this case magickal-type) series, and was having no good luck for quite awhile. Then I noticed Book of Shadows in the library, and checked it out. I could hardly put it down! This story is about an ordinary out-of-place girl named Morgan. One day, she's at school and a new boy named Cal shows up. On the first day she's head over heels for him. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a romance book! Anyway, he's very friendly to her and everyone else, even though her best friend Bree is beautiful and Morgan feels like a cow next to her. So one night, he invites them to a party at night, out in a remote field. They think it's a little strange, but they decide that they want to go....just to see Cal ;) Though they don't know each other like him. So they get there, and it turns out that Cal's a witch (yes, a witch), and he wanted to find some people who were interested in wicca. Well, since they don't decide to start right then & there (they need time to decide) they do one thing and then head home. Morgan starts studying wicca and finds out that she's really into it. Strange people seem to think she's different; and seem to think she's a real witch. Why would anyone do that? Is Morgan somehow much more different than she thought she was? Is she actually a blood witch? And will she end up with Cal? The ending to this book will leave you hungry for more, more, MORE of Cate Tiernan's series, Sweep!
Rating: Summary: did i choose it? or did it choose me? Review: Morgan is a regular teenage girl until the day she met Cal Blaire. He is a Wiccan and is teaching Morgan. But Morgan soon realizes that her very strong power leads to unknown secrets. Morgan loves Wicca but because of it so many things go wrong. Can Morgan pull threw? Will she learn the secret to power? Read this book and find out!
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put the book down Review: Originally, I was skeptical about the book - it being based on a religion other than my own. But the realness of the characters and the conflicts they encountered quickly drew me in. I love the fact that in the book, the main characters weren't perfect. People made mistakes, and had different ways of seeing things. I related to different attitudes of each character. I need to buy the sequal ASAP! This is great young adult fiction, and easy-reading without being dumbed down.
Rating: Summary: great book Review: i thought this book was great. it covered a lot of the problems a teenager might face in their time in highschool, problems with friends and guys. but for one that just starts getting into wicca it can make things more difficult, just like it did for morgan in sweep #1, BOS. she faced a couple of big problems, with bree, and her parents not supporting her choice to learn more about wicca. i know what thats like and it can be hard. i look forward to reading the rest of these books. they're addicting to a person like me, i have to make myself stop reading them so i dont finish it before i can get the next one! i would recommend this book to, well, anyone who is interested in wicca for one, and who likes reading a book about a young girl and her life.
Rating: Summary: An interesting book about Wicca Review: Sixteen-year-old Morgan's life changes forever the day Cal Blaire arrives at her high school. As a practising Wiccan, Cal invites several kids, including Morgan, to a party where they will celebrate the sabbat "Mabon". As they form a Wiccan circle, Morgan begins to feel powers she did not knew she possessed, and soon she is wondering if the magick is choosing her...This novel is a more accurate portrayal of witchcraft than most and does not sensationalise it as some similar books do. "Book of Shadows" is a quick and interesting read that holds your attention throughout. My one complaint is that I didn't find the characters (excluding Cal) that interesting. However, I will be looking out for the next book in the series to see how the story develops. A definite must-read for any one interested in, or looking to learn about, Wicca.

Rating: Summary: Great book from a sensitive author. Review: I read this book at 32, after seeing an ad for the series in a magazine for school library professionals, and I really enjoyed it. The author treated the high school scene (which hasn't changed much since my day except for the odd henna tattoo and body piercing) with knowledge, realism, and sensitivity. I liked her mix of characters who come together to learn about Wicca. Her lead male character, Cal, who is a witch, is sweet, smart, and believable, and I related to her lead female character, Morgan, who learns to recognize her inner power. I felt Wicca was portrayed positively and realistically, and so was the family scene (with Morgan having a lesbian aunt). The teen books from MY teens years seemed to ignore facts of life like that one. The author picked up on the similarity between realizing you're a witch and realizing you're gay. They don't call it "coming out of the broom closet" for nothing. We're not all the same, people, made from the same mold and destined to follow the same path, and enlightened teens who understand this will appreciate this book. Bravo to a great author. Again, open-minded readers won't be disappointed by this one.
Rating: Summary: This book is a great read! Review: The only reason i put this book as 4star is because im comparing it to the other ones. You have to read this one to understand the others, but this one you should definitly not miss. Morgans life gets more interesting in every book and im getting sick waiting for Cate Tiernan to make no.11. This book is totally on MY book list!
