Rating: Summary: Bad and Good In It's Own Ways Review: I'm not Wicca, so none of my points here will go towards that. Anyway, I read the book over a year ago, and sadly disliked finding it absolutely cliched. It seems like Cate was trying to write a "mature teen" novella, but instead this turns out to be a shallow, unrealistic piece of [junk]. There is a point where Bree chooses a boy over her best friend, I find this very unlikely, especially by someone who you call your best friend. Secondary characters seemed to revolve around shallown and superficial qualities. The naked pool scene, most teens are awkward, like our heroine, and would never strip in their clothing and just jump in the pool. I am sure Morgan would have another comrade or two who wouldn't strip down. Bree appeared to be nothing more than [cheap], Cal seemed like he was stringing the two along on some conquest, and the rest of the characters had no real purpose. I liked Morgan though, she was a great example of an awkward teen, aside from the J. Crew looking crowd she hanged out with, excluding Robbie of course, who somehow turns so very handsome in the end, of course. The ending is quite predictable. It's just about two girl's competiting for a guy, nothing to do with Wicca if you actually look at it. The near ending focuses on Morgan and Bree's infatuation with the very hot guy. This book tries to be mature, but only shows us the shallow side of the youth. The book wasn't very well-written-- but what young adult book in its genre is? If you're an early teen or tween, then I'd suggest this, but if you're in high school and up, I'd suggest you read something more challenging and more realistic.
Rating: Summary: From a Abnormal Teen Review: Morgan Rowlands lives a typical life, with her parents and her sister. Until one day wen everything changes and Morgan finds out she has more power than she could imagine! I think this is a GREAT book! but i dont think everyone would enjoy it tho. i think u would have 2 b a believer that there is a such thing as wichcraft and that some people have an ability that no one can explain. And remember Wicca is a religion like any other, so please respect it. Gr8 Book!!!
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ! Review: I LOVE THESE BOOKS, I HAVE ALL 14 AND SINCE I LOVE THEM SO MUCH, I DON'T REALLY SHARE MY BOOKS. IT REALLY GAVE ME AN INSIGHT INTO THE WICCAN WORLD AND IT MADE ME UNDERSTAND SO MANY OTHER THINGS ABOUT MYSELF. I ALSO PRAY THAT IT DOESN'T GET AS "FAMOUS" AS HARRY POTTER BECAUSE BEING FAMOUS MAKES DOESN'T MAKE IT EXCITING ANYMORE, AND THAT'S WHY I LIKE SWEEP SO MUCH, BECAUSE NOT MUCH PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT IT AND IT REMAINS MYSTERIOUS... SO KEEP IT THAT WAY!
Rating: Summary: SWEEP IS MY HERO!!! Review: I LOVE THESE BOOKS THEY ARE AMAZING !!!!! i have all of my friends reading it too because i was so addicted U BETTER READ IT TOO!!! THANK YOU FOR WRITIGN IT CATE!
Rating: Summary: The first book of a wonderful series Review: I purchased this book because it had been recommended to me from Amazon and from people on a LJ Smith listserver. I didn't expect too much from it, but I absolutely loved the entire series. I spent hours searching all the local bookstores trying to find the next books in the series after I devoured book by book. They really are wonderful books. I liked them so much that I even started rereading the series not even a month after I finished them initially. Wow. The main character, Morgan, is a fantastic character. First of all, Cate Tiernan writes in first person, so you really feel connected to Morgan's thoughts and beliefs. She is also not really the "perfect teenagers" that I have encountered in other series. She is completely ordinary on the outside; she is smart, not drop-dead gorgeous, shy and insecure. Her life is completely ordinary, as well, until Cal enters her life. The first book takes a look at how Morgan's life changes when Cal moves to Widow's Vale. He invites a bunch of people to a "party" one day a few weeks after he moves, and he introduces the crowd to Wicca. Some people leave, some people stay. Morgan feels drawn into this new religion. After her first circle, she feels a new power. She also realizes that she is drawn to Cal, but unfortunately her (beautiful) best friend Bree has already decided that she wants Cal. But this book is not completely about Morgan's struggle to get a boyfriend. It is about Morgan's awakening. She states on the first page how her life changes after Cal moves to her town ("Years from now, I'll look back and remember today as the day I met him..."). Yet, this book does deal with real high school issues, and also real life issues. Tiernan does not try to create a "perfect world," but instead mirrors real life. I definately suggest this series; it has already been added to one of my favorite series of all times.
Rating: Summary: One of the best teen-wicca seiries I've ever read . . . . Review: This was a fun book to read! Obviously very little in it is factual about Wicca, but its a fictional book, not a how-to, for crying out loud! Morgan is easy to relate to, feeling like the ugly duckling compared to just about everybody, but she finds herself and her power!
Rating: Summary: an excellent witch FANTACY and romance Review: The other reviews especially the editorial review... have said much to point out what the books about, and I am not going to rehash it. Overall I enjoyed and even Treasured most of the books in this series very much, it is true that this book is blended with as much fantasy as reality but it does so in a way that only adds to the book rather then shames the reality, (approximately I would relate it closely to the movie "the craft" except in book form) and this book has character developement without bore, and good personalities... and I enjoyed how it pays attention to the "cute boy/girl" or to the outfit they wear for the day at school. The book is very modern with a good amount of detail, without seeming to throw in names of fasions or designers just to seems so. I would recommend it to anyone (mostly to the young female) that wants to escape reality and do so magickally, there is some (mixed in with the fantasy of course) valid referance to witchcraft. ... most likely you will find, as me and my friend did, that one or two of the fourteen books are harder to enjoy then the others; overall it is one of two of my favorite series of this type... the other which is a bit more realistic is the "Circle of Three" series which I would also recommend greatly.
Rating: Summary: If only she hadn't said "Wicca" Review: This fantasy series falls down in positing that there are "Blood Witches" who are members of the Wiccan religion. The members of these Clans have held themselves apart for so long they have strange powers and can't even interbreed with humans. Oh please! She does show regular Wiccan religionists but her focus is on a young "Blood Witch". She also commits gaffs such as talking about "the runes are different depending on whether they are Norse, Germanic or Celtic". Um, the Celts never used runes. They used various forms of Ogham for religious use and the Latin alphabet for commerce. The intertwining of our supposedly Irish-descended Witch and the importance of runes is a bit eclectic. I would have much less trouble with this book if she had just used "Witch" throughout but she has tied it to the actual religion of Wicca about which there are already all sorts of ridiculous claims in the sensational press. I do interfaith work on behalf of the Wiccan religion and this mismash series is going to give me more debunking work to do. It is too bad because it is actually well-written and engaging.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Series Review: This is an awesome book and series. I've read them all and this one has to be one of my favorites. There was never a part where I was bored or uninterested and ended up reading it in one day. It has a great story line and you can really relate to the characters because of how Cate portrays them. She's a great author and it's a shame the series had to end at 14. I would deffinetly buy this book if your into magic, teen drama/romance, and Wicca.
Rating: Summary: Bewitching! Review: When Morgan Rowlands and her friend, Bree, are invited to a party by the gorgeous and allegedy charming Cal Blaire, they didn't know that in fact they would be going to a magickal ritual. They agree to stay and take part in it because both girls are attracted to Cal and are curious about his religion, Wicca. Morgan, the plain and average girl that no guy has ever looked twice at, has a strange reaction to the ritual. Pain. For the next couple of days her senses are raging, and she is beginning to know things before they happen. And, as if aware of the sudden awakening of power within her, Cal Blaire begins to notice her. As Morgan begins to study and look deeper into Wicca, she is delighted at her talent with it. So is Cal. As the two grow closer, she and Bree begin to have problems, and soon she is torn between losing her best friend or giving up a person that seems so right to her. Honestly, I'm not sure if agree with her choice. Bree treated her badly, yet there's something suspicious about Cal's attention. I guess Morgan really wanted to believe someone was finally attracted to her after all those years of being compared to Bree or her younger sister (who has more curves than she does). But did it have to be him?
