Rating: Summary: Fallen Angels, A Rising Story Review: Perry, the protagonist of the story, is a benign person with an amiable and empathetic personality. After growing up in Harlem and graduating high school, he enlists himself in the army. During his time in the war, he meets several friends and significant characters: Peewee, Lobel, Johnson, and Brunner. Together, they strive to stay alive in the battlefields of Nam. Brotherly love grows amongst them as they fight off the North Vietnamese. Overall, we think that this was a well written book that kept us on the edge of our seats at all times.
Rating: Summary: Touching Review: Walter Dean Myers is a good author. His book is a touching journey through 'Nam. You get a real feel and love for the people he discribes. The shock and horrer it intails is eye-opening for readers that have never been in war or war-like surroundings. However, parents and buyer's beware! If you do not wish to read somthing with alot of profanity and some obscene remarkes or do not want your childeren reading it..... this book is not for you. Doubtless they did speak like that but some readers may have no wish to read it. If you liked this book than be sure to try Long Road Home by Ellen Emerson White for an eye-opening account of a female nurse in 'Nam.
Rating: Summary: This should be Mandatory High School Reading! Review: Walter Dean Meyers work "Fallen Angels" should be mandatory reading for high school children. Like, All Quiet on the Western Front, this is a tragic story of young soldiers at war. The book does a great job showing the horror that was the Vietnam War. In telling the story, Meyers is really telling the story of the Vietnam War. For Young Adults, This is the book on Vietnam.
Rating: Summary: In God We Trust Review: I read this book during the Gulf War and have read it time and again. Vietname mean nothing to me until I opened the first page of this book and I felt like I stepped into the life of Ritchie Perry. ". . . all the killing was making me look at myself against, hoping to find something more than the kid I was." pg 186-187 I read this book as a kid but afterward felt as if I'd grown with the character. This book was my earliest exposure to the Army and one of the influences in my decision to be an officer.
Rating: Summary: A powerful description of the Vietnam War Review: Reading the book Fallen Angles is like being in the VietnamWar. It is a very good book full of adventure and it tells the storyof the American soldiers. Fallen Angels describes what it was like and what the GI's went through in the war. The battles and the illnesses the soldiers caught in Vietnam are all described in the book. Richard Perry and his friends in his squad tell about the hardships of the war. Richard sees a man in his squad die, and he explains how hard it is to see him die even though they were not close. Richard cant stop thinking about how that it could have been him that was killed. This war does not seem to end. There are many rumors that it will end soon, but it seems it like it just won't stop. Richard was injured on many occasions and every time he recovered he was sent back into the war. Except for the last time. Here he was injured while climbing into a helicopter at an LZ, when a North Vietnamese shot him in the leg. He was sent back to "the world" [America]. This is one of the events that make the book real. Fallen Angels is realistic and a very well written book. This book is worth reading and is enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Soldiers Never Die They Just Fade Away Review: This story is about an 18 year old man who is shipped to Vietnam in the 60's. He is an American soldier named Richard Perry. I gave it four stars because it gives the normal Vietnam setting. Find out the challenges that Richard faced every day. See if him and his other friends make it home to see another day in America. I chose to read this book for Mrs. Cadell's 7th grade English class. Someone who enjoys history and war stories would love this book.
Rating: Summary: Fallen Angels-Great! Review: The book was about a black foot-soldier sent in Vietnam. It showed the friendship people were willing to share just for the thought they might not come back. Being only a young teen at the age of 13, I found this book humorous, heartwrenching, and in suspence the entire time. You will want to keep with every step that Perry, Monaco, Peewee, Johnson, and Sergeant Simpson make. This was my favorite book I've read.
Rating: Summary: FALLEN ANGELS IS DA BOMB!!! Review: THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD IT WAS A GOOD DESCRIPTION OF VIETNAM! EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS BOOK! NOW!!!
Rating: Summary: Fallen Angels Review: The book, Fallen Angels was about a couple of guys that became friends, when they got to Vietnam. The book was written from Perry's perspective, as a regular fighting soldier. I think that it would be a good book for young guys to read, because it tells what happened to the young men when they were drafted. I learned that there was a lot of blood shed over there, and that there were a lot of young men that lost their lives. Perry and Peewee were the closest of all the friends, and the book told about many of their mission's together, and with the rest of the squad. I recommend that you read this book if you enjoy stories about war and friendship.
Rating: Summary: Marvelous, Baby! Review: It describes the war so vividly! A perfect gift, or something for yourself. It truly brings out history, darling. A wonderful, beautiful book. Myers did a good job!
