Summary: Book review of Fallen Angels
Review: Fallen Angels is a great Vietnam book, though some extensive knowledge of weapons during the period is needed in order to fully understand the book. It is about an African American soldier named Perry who joined the army since he is from a poor family his athletic scholarship is ruined when he hurts his knee. He meets another African American who calls himself PeeWee and together they struggle to survive their required 14-month tour through Vietnam. Through luck, skill, and Peewee's and Perry's growing companionship they survive battle through battle as everyone around them dies. The book has lots of battles, with a physical enemy, the Viet Cong (Cong/VC) and with the emotions they encounter throughout their time in 'the worst place on earth.' Walter Dean Myers description and the characterization he uses all add to make Fallen Angels an unforgettable book. His ingenious balance of characters the interactions make this story very realistic. The traits of a character are compatible when two are friends and clash when two characters argue or fight. Though I was somewhat required to read this book I found that I could not put this book down and almost read past the time I had to get to class. I enjoyed Fallen angels better than most Tom Clancy's books other than Clancy's famous Rainbow Six.

Summary: Awesome Book Review of Fallen Angels
Review: Bloodshed... Insanity... Action... Terror... Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers tells the tragic story in the trenches and at the front lines of the Vietnam War through the innocent eyes of Richard Perry, a 17 year old African-American soldier from Harlem. He is leaving behind his younger brother and loving mother. After his dream of going to college falls through, he volunteers for the service unlike fellow draftees in 1967.
Death comes knocking at his door, day after day, night after night. The real bloody horror of warfare nearly rips his heart out while mosquitoes eat him alive and the unsettling guilt and images keep him from sleeping. He develops strong bonds with the men who are there to experience every emotion, fear, and thought with him. His comrades, especially humorous PeeWee, keep him going with their love and bravery. These courageous soldiers all came to Vietnam for different reasons, but all hope to get out alive.
The author did a brilliant job reaching deep into your soul and giving you a whole different perspective of the Vietnam War with the graphic realistic details. He also kept you hoping everything would be OK thoughout the whole book.
I think this book is and honest portrayal of what really went on in Vietnam. Death, friendship, lonliness, and fear are some of the main themes that made me feel like I was there.
With all the raw language, gruesome death, adult conflicts, and some sexual issues, I would recommend this book for mature audiences. If you are interested in reading about the real devistaion of war or want a book with unmatched realism and heroism, you would not be able to put this book down.

Summary: Fallen Angels
Review: Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers is the story of the Vietnam War from the view of a young boy becoming a man. This young boy is Richard Perry. Perry is a 17 year old boy from Harlem. He had dreams of going to college which he did not succeed with. He then decides to sign up for the Vietnam War. Everyday in Vietnam was another fight for survival. Perry and his fellow soldiers experienced loss of someone everyday. During Perry's time in Vietnam he develops some very close friends that push him to make it through everyday. They had all came to Vietnam for different reasons, but everyday they help each other get a litte closer to making it out alive.
I think Walter Dean Myers did a great job of showing his audience what it was like over in Vietnam. Showing us a totally different view and waking us up to see really how bad it was over there. He always kept the reader wondering how Perry and everyone will do tomrrow.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to actually feel what it was really like in the Vietnam War. This book seems like the real war and what happened to the soldiers with all the crude talk, grusome scenes, and heroism everyday. You can get lost in this book very easily.

Summary: Fallen Angels
Review: The book Fallen Angels, by Walter Dean Myers, is one of the best books I have ever read. The setting is in Vietnam in the late 1960s. It's mainly about what happens to the main character, Richard Perry's, squad. The narrator is Richie.
The conflict is man verses man because they're fighting the Vietnamese. Along with Richie is his best friend, "Peewee" Gates, Monaco, another friend, and Lieutenant Carroll. There are also many other soldiers in Richie's squad. Peewee is the "clown" of the squad who isn't afraid of anything. Monaco is sort of like the priest in the squad because he is always praying. Then there is Lieutenant Carroll, who Richie thinks is always sad and depressed, even when he laughs or smiles. Richie is fresh out of high school and is scared for his life. He is an African American from Harlem, New York.
Richie is scared at first, but when not much action happens in the beginning, he starts to calm down. It doesn't last long though, because soon they go into combat. After that, almost every time they go out, someone dies. This includes one of Richie's friends who everyone in the squad liked and respected. One day when the squad goes to fight, Richie gets injured. He thinks he is about to die, but he doesn't.
The author used many literary elements in the book, such as monologue. An example of it was made by Lieutenant Carroll. He said,"My father used to call all soldiers angel warriors because usually they get boys to fight wars." This quote is what goes on through the book and what the characters use to make up their prayers whenever someone in the squad dies. He also used a lot of imagery to explain the first man's face that Richie shot, and their location such as in forests, cemetaries or rice paddies.
The book Fallen Angels is an outstanding novel. The author makes you feel as if you were in Vietnam and part of the characters. It gets you emotionally involved too. There are times when you feel like laughing or even crying. You can feel the fear and the sweat that comes down your face as you get nervous waiting to see what happens next. I definatly think everyone should read this book because it is very realistic.

Summary: Fallen Angels
Review: This book was amazing! The details of this story were brilliant. Not only did the book give me a great understanding of the life of a soldier in Vietnam, but it also kept me on my toes throughout the whole book. The emotions in the book showed the true feelings of a man in war. Not the fake stuff they make us guys out to be. People who don't like the gawky stuff about war (blood, innocent killings, etc.) this is not your kind of book. For the rest of you ,though, this book has comedy, action, and a great impact on the person reading it. Don't get me wrong now; the book isn't this gun rattling, mass killing, genocide kind of book. If this means anything when I read the end of the book I was hoping for another page to come after that, and I mean that in a good way. If you know me though I'm not what you call a "Reader" so if you understand what I mean there you might just understand how good of a book this is. I gave Fallen Angels five stars and I bet when you finish it you will to.

Summary: Amazing!
Review: This book was very gripping and touching about the Vietnam war. I recommend it to everyone, although harsh language are found in the book. Otherwise, this book is wonderful!!

Summary: Maybe worth a second look
Review: Walter Dean Myers'Fallen Angels is a story of Richard Perry and his newly found friends--Herman "peewee" Gates, Lobel, Monaco and Brunner--as they live through the Vietnamese war. The squad goes on pacification and patrol through dangerous areas. Their many adventures are filled with suspense and action. A good knowledge of weapons would help with this easy, yet jumpy, read. It helps to give a vague feeling of what soldiers went through in the war in Vietnam. This one time read is simple and not worth buying, though I did enjoy the book.

Summary: Best War Book Ever
Review: When I first heard about this book, the only thing that I was hearing was that it was one of the best books the people had read. Now after reading it myself I would have to say that it is also one of the best books that I have read. I have read many books about all of the different wars that America has fought in and this one really stuck out because it seemed to have the most realistic characters and situations. I really liked this book because most books take a while to get into the action and there are usually just a few action scenes that really interest the reader. Unlike other books this one had action and adventure throughout the whole thing. As soon as the reader got into a really action packed scene they wouldn't want to set the book down.
This book's content was also really easy to understand and follow. Who likes to read a book that no one can pronounce or even understand the words? This book had fairly easy words and the content was kind of basic but the storyline was great. The action never really let up, whether they were in a battle or just sitting around in their barracks there was always just something there that kept the reader wanting to read more. I would reccommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a good war or action packed novel.

Summary: The best book ever writen
Review: Fallen Angels is the best book I have ever read in my life. It gives you a look at the life of an American solder in the Vietnam War. The fact that everyone around him is dying, but he and his friend Peewee live on, it will grab you and makes you want to read more. I would recommend this book to any teen that wants to learn more about the Vietnam War. This book does contain excessively strong language, but it's easy to look past that and see that this book is one of the best books ever written. The best part of the book is the ending; it will make you reflect on the rest of the book.
My favorite part of the book is when they first get to Vietnam and they think that they are going to die. It is a great book that I think you will love if you read it.

Summary: Realistically True
Review: Fallen Angels is one of the few books I've ever read, and I was really into it. Richie sounded like a lost teenager that didn't know what he was going to do and decided to join the Army. Walter Dean Myer really went into some graphic description; that's what made the book as excelent as it is. It really gave me a good understanding about what the soldiers went through in Vietnam. Now I realize why my friend's dad doesn't talk about it. I thought that it was really sad that a woman would actually plant a mine on her child and blow them all up; that just blew me away. I didn't really like the ending of the book. I wish he would have told us if Peewee and Richie ever reunited or how Richie's mom treated him or quit her drinking. I wonder if Richie's mom ever got to meet Peewee. I think that before anyone ever wants to give a Veteran problems, they need to read this book first and maybe they'll give more respect!
