Rating: Summary: If I had a paper shredder Review: Never again will I buy a book by Sonya Sones and expect to find quality. I paid $ for this at a school book fair and started reading it, expecting to find a good book. Instead I found jumbled poems that are one page long, writing either barely keeping the same topic or repeating the exact same story over three or four poems, and bad characters. What was this book anyway?
Rating: Summary: Stop Pretending Review: Stop Pretending is a neat book. This book is about two sisters. The older sister suffers a mental breakdown. When this happens, the younger sister goes through many emotions and how she finds her happiness. She loses friends and even makes new ones as she deals with the new sister she has to meet. I would say this book is for teens and anyone who can relate to this story.
Rating: Summary: Poetical, beautiful, heart wrenching and unique Review: In Stop Pretending, the unconventional topic of mental illness is addressed in a unique way from a new voice: narrator Cookie uses poetry to express her confusion, grief, rage, fear, and hope when the older sister she idolizes checks into a mental hospital. This trauma overshadows and flavors the traditional struggles of being a teen: peer acceptance, family squabbles, first love. Sones's simple poems reveal raw emotion with immediate honesty and eloquence. Teens will empathize with Cookie and her family's experience. A brief author's note describes her personal experiences the book grew out of. Organizations that provide and support are listed. A must have.
Rating: Summary: Just okay. Review: This book is actually not that bad. There were some flaws, though. First of all, this book is way too short. I finished it in about an hour. I also thought that the problems in the book were solved just a little too easily. Some of the poems are really good, but overall, I would really only recommend this to someone who needed to write a book report ASAP.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Young Adult Book Review: Imagine what it would be like if you lost your best friend and your only sister. This is exactly what happened to Cookie when her sister started suffering from mental illness. In the book "Stop Pretending," by Sonya Sones, the author describes through poetry, what it is like to have someone so close to her suffer from mental illness. This book discusses Cookie's troubles dealing with her sister's sickness, and coping with people around her, and how they react when they find out about her sister. I really enjoy how the book was written in poetry, it gave a sense of the disconection from the world, felt by Cookie, and it made the reader feel like they were in Cookie's shoes, and it was their sister that "went crazy." I would recomend this book to everyone, because it is an easy read that touches the reader with confusion and emotion that they are sure to feel in everyday life.

Rating: Summary: Best Ever Review: This book is amazingly powerful. I cried the first time I read it, which is extremely rare for me. I got this book off of a book order from school and loved it. It only took me about a total of an hour and a half to read, but yet i changed me. I often don't like to read for no reason except to read, but as soon as i started reading this book, i couldn't stop. I even read it again, which i hate doing because then it gets boring, but I want to read it again. *Thinks to herself, "This will be my fifth time now...?*
