Summary: A thrilling page-turner!
Review: I probably would have never read any of Philip Pullman's books if it had not been for my language arts teacher, who handed me a copy of the Ruby in the Smoke when I asked to borrow a reading book that I was supposed to have for an upcoming class but didn't. I had tried reading The Tin Princess last year but didn't get very far at all. It was confusing, being the last book of a trilogy and not very interesting at the beginning . . . But the Ruby in the Smoke caught my attention right away. It introduced me to pretty, determined Veronica (Sally) Lockhart and cruel, greedy Mrs. Holland in a fast-paced world of pirates and convicts all wrapped up tightly around a mystical ruby and the opium trade . . . This is the best mystery I have read yet and you can bet that I will give the Tin Princess another try and take up the entire Sally Lockhart Trilogy! Don't risk missing this thrilling story like I nearly did!

Summary: A very good book
Review: The Sally Lockhart series has always been high on my list of good books. Pullman has rellay created a thrilling story of a 16 year old girl in search of her father's murderer. Quite emotional, too. the author has a knack for drawing people into his stories, and this is no exception. Within moments you get caught up in Sally's truggle and join her friends as they try to uncover the mysteries in the air.If you really want to see Pullman's skills at work, read the His Dark Materials series. They are even better than these and my favorite fantasy books. They are also a lot deeper, and more powerful. The other two books in this series are just as good, if not better. If you liked this, you will want to try those.

Summary: A real mystery
Review: When Sally Lockheart's father mysterious dies she wants to know how. And when someone gives her a cryptic message in scribbly hand writing, she sees a phrase that will change her life as she knows it. Beware The Seven Blessings. And when she asks a man who worked for her father about it he drops dead. She's immeaditally thrown into a strange world where she's hunted like a dog. She's meets people that will affect her life like no other, a photographer, an opium smoker, a child who's never alowed to see daylight and a boy named Jim. All of them who who's lives are put in danger by the enemy. This was a great book for mystery fans. I'm definatly reading the next two!

Review: This book was very exciting and I enjoyed it very much. I found it hard to put the book down. The 2 books that follow it are also good, The Shadow in the North and The Tiger in the Well.

Summary: Everyone loves a good mystery, and this is the best one!
Review: This is one of my favorite books. I especially love mysteries, and this is the perfect example of one. The suspense was so great, you could hardly stand it. Everything was so well described that is left not much up to the reader's imagination. Not too difficult of a read, but absolutely wonderful! Please read it, you won't be sorry! And be sure to check out the following two.

Review: Although this book is more of a mystery or historical fictioninsted of being Fantasy as it is catagorized it's worthreading. Phillip Pullman is a great author and this is on of his best.

Review: The Ruby in the smoke was a very good book, so good i couldnt put it down. it is a suspense thriller and you can never wait or guess what is going to happen next. once i was done this book i couldnt wait to read the next one, although this book was abot confusing i waoul still rate it a 5 star
